Got one ordered and I'ts supposed to be in this coming Monday. Allready got the motor water cooling system( the dealer threw in a new one for free). Just wondering what kind of luck ya'll are having with these. Saw an add where you can upgrade to a SPEED 700 motor and run a 7cell on each motor and really boost the speed, but probably cut way down on the run time. Open to any and all suggestions since this will be my first electric rig. THANKS IN ADVANCE, Daniel M.Hallman, A.K.A. THE LAB RAT...

The best upgrade will be to a single 700 bb 8.4 running 12 cells
or two inexpensive brushless motors running on 16 cells all up

i heard that a good set of worked bronze props help a ton on that boat, then again they do on all boats.....a brushless setup in that thing would be something to see.....though brushless can be kinda expensive w/ the special esc and all. good things is they're very low-maintenance. are u still interested in the p2k2 for ur retrieval boat?? let me know,

hey andrew,
i'm working on my first nitro now, and a friend of mine offered to help me make a tuned pipe w/ some steel tubing and a lathe and bender. i'll be going over there this weekend to work on it, but it'd quite a gamble......i mean things dont always work out the way you want them to [gasp]. if the pipe doesn't work well [that is is we get one done at all] i wanted to have a pipe available so i can get the thing running ASAP. the engine is a K&B .18 inboard.....do you have any pipes that size [i looked on your site and i'm taking the "ask us about it" seriously!! lol] ??

Okay ya'll, I really need some info on things like brushless motors, like are thThanks for any help, THE LAB RAT...ey worth the extra money in the long run. How would you go about setting up a 3300maH ni-mH battery on each motor instead oy the parallel set up? ANYBODY out there have any suggestions on makink this boat go a lot faster ( besides strapping on a couple of long burning model rocket motors ? ) Pleasr e-mail any and all suggestions to: danielmhallman@hotmail.com.

have a look at this - it gives real world costs for different types of motors over 1-2 years

Don't get yourself crazy, build your boat as is, & run it, enjoy it!,,, then later get the prop & shaft upgrade to see & know the difference,,, experiment, learn, & enjoy each new hop up ,,, also make sure you install the water cooling on the motors,,, after awhile when you get used to the boat, then try it with 12cells in series, you will need a different speed controller todo this, maybe a microswitch, or an RChydros SC-3 esc (remember this wears hard on the motors also) you should have plenty of speed now, bordering on the edge of control,,, you might need to add one turn fin mounted on the right rear corner from this point of speed, & on up,,, once you wear out the motors, then you have the option of replacing them with mod motors, or modifying to one single drive with a 700 8.4V motor, or an expensive brushless motor system (must be a matched motor & controller),,, take it one step at a time, you must learn to walk, before you can run,,, Good Luck, Mike D.

The absolutely best source of details in the long story of developing possibly the "world's fastest Villain" can be found at:
http://www.lousfastrc.com
I have seen this boat run and it is, without a doubt, an extremely fast and good-handling deep vee. Whether you choose to go as far as Lou has taken it or decide to be more conservative, there is a lot to be learned from his trials, tests and lots of pictures.
His Villain, now sporting brushless motor power, is pushing very close to 40 mph straightaway speed.

You say he is now close to 40 mph?? Can you tell me what the current set up is? Is it different than his last revision on the website?
What motor is he running? ESC?

just guessing [havent been to lou's in a while], but it's probably a 12 cell Hacker, and Schultze esc of the right strength.......amazing he's got that thing the way it is.

He is running 33mph on 16 cells with a Graupner 8.4BB and Graupner K51 prop

I know you can get the old school Villian IV to fly. Mine is about 5 years old and does atleast 35. I have all new shafts and bearings using high viscosity lube, custom copper water cooling, traxxas e-maxx 550 motors, and my ESC is a tekin G-12 IIIc. I had a EVX ESC but burned it out, and setup w/ the tekin. Its faster! probably one of the fastest electrics out there. Not too hard of mods to do if ur interested

Traxxas motors will NOT get this boat to 35MPH......

w/ 14.4 volts in series.....yeah it will

Stock Titan motors, on 14 volts, it ain't going to happen ..
Put a GPS on your boat and tell me what you see.
Remember that the prop is only spinning half the motors rpm,
so for a 47mm prop to send a vee hull with 25% slip to 35mph the motor would have to spin loaded 38,000 rpms.

sorry...i forgot to mention I have an 8 clog pinion vs a 12....my bad

Thats slows the prop shaft rpms down even worse.
Now the loaded rpm of the motor to run 35mph, would have to be 65,836 rpm given you are talking 8 tooth motor gear and 28 prop shaft gear.

Here's a vid of the ol Villain running yesterday. Got 26.1 MPH (on GPS) with a pair of JoMo Johnson Motors and 14 cells.
Pretty fun setup for a Villain... :D

Sounds like the new villain EX (relatively new that is) as far as motor set up - not sure about their gearing, but it runs 23mph with the Titan motors and 14.4 volts. I HIGHLY doubt you are running more than 25, and with that ratio, 20 seems more plausible.

Just got a Villain EX 2 days ago. Stock with 4s 3100 lipo (Polyquest 12C) takes it to 19.7 mph GPS... But 19.7 mph is pretty slow and boring so I tried it with 5s lipo. 5s4400 12C polyquest pack and it got up to 22.5 mph gps tested. I'm actually kinda surprised my Novak ESC didn't burn up with 18.5 volts (over 20 volts peaked). :)

Hi, I to have have a traxxas villain iv and i have the bronze propellers on each side. For right now I have the 2 stingers motors in it, and i was wondering if you know if you could get brushless motors(2) and both hooked up to the same esc...and would u need a fan or water cooling inside?

Got my Villain EX up to 25 mph with the stock motors and 5s lipos with 18 tooth pinions. Went dual brushless with Lehner Basic 2700s, 4s lipos, two barracuda 125s and it ran 31 mph with stock setup, but it's really eating up u joints - each u joint only seems to run about 10 minutes before completely melting. Also, two squirrely. The villain ex is better off running low 20's. Less flipping. The strenth of the hull is the ability to run in chop, have lots of thrust (dual large props and gearing to spin larger prop) for quick reaction and turning and quick planing. My SV27 has a single small prop but it takes forever to get to plane and is not good for tight spaces like the Villain EX.

i have seen a villian iv hoped uped. it had the twin motors systems tookin out and replaced by a single shaft and it was running 36mph with the brushless system. Now they have brushed motors that can do good at some speeds...then they have brushless systems..does anyone know wat kind off motors would I be good on ,and how much they would cost..i drive it on all sorts off lakes were my family goes..so if u could help me out with my problem send a reply
