Run McCoy #9 or O.S. A5/R5 plugs if you plan on running 30-percent nitro fuel.

I would strongly suggest not running 30% on the Savage. We will be suggesting in the manual that you run 20% fuel with the Savage.

Do you have any top speed numbers for the Savage yet?

IMHO there is a BIG difference between 30 mph and 40 mph. The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to decide between a Savage and a new T-Maxx. If the Savage went closer to 40 I'd buy it. If is is closer to 30, I'd buy the T-Maxx.

u is everything about speed.? 30 MPH is plenty you dont think so but when you get a car your gonna wish it went slower

Speed is only one factor. As far as I can see the Savage and the T-Maxx each have their strong points and weak points. So deciding between the two is very tough.
I want a MT for both bashing and racing. So for racing speed is an important factor.

Straight line speed will tell you nothing about how well the truck will perform in a racing scenario.

I understand that. Obviously no one but a few lucky European guys have seen what the Savage can do. I was at the Monster Truck Championships at Delta RC recently. They put the new 2.5's in the big block class. I saw the A main. The 2.5's were routinely the only ones clearing the triple. The 2.5's were beating most of the big blocks.

I decided on a T-Maxx after thinking about it.
The Savage has no suspension tuning at all.
you cant make adjustments on the shock towers or A-arms.

exactly thats why im also getting the maxx 2.5 since the a arms and teh suspenion can be adjusted and plus you can lower the maxxed ride height so it looks like a gigantic rally car :0 i cant wait!

are you positive you cant lower the suspensions on the a-arms because i just saw some pics and i see a hole where you could lower the suspensions, if you dont believe me look at the pic here http://www.xs4all.nl/~jcenters/Savage%20pics/PICT0002.JPG be careful 56k'ers its 1.1MB. (look at the suspension on the right, then look down and you will see a hole to connect the suspension to make it lower about 1/2-1" thats a lot)...well i already preordered my savage a couple weeks ago. I decided to get the Savage because i liked the design of the tvp, (twin vertical plates) its original and very strong, i dont want something that everyone has like the t-maxx

In the current issue of RC Car Action it says;
"Apparently HPI has worked out the suspension geometry because only one shock mount is provided on the suspension arms and shock towers"
That was a big turn off for me.

I see the hole your talking about.
Not sure if that is mounting position.
if it is you think it would lower the suspension?
One of the editors from Car Action comes to my Local track sometimes. if he shows this weekend I'll ask him.
If you read the article that quote is kind of a dig at HPI for providing only one shock position. Hard to believe that HPI couldn't engineer it into the truck, not to keep hyping the new Tmaxx but it has 10 different hole combinations which allow you to raise or lower the truck as well as change the suspension charactoristics pretty dramatically. Even my MP has 6 different shock combinations. I'm sure HPI will come up with an after (thought)market arm and tower at some point, but why not do it right the first time.

Im almost positive that is a mounting position because I have an HPI RS4 Type ss and it has a hole that is similar to the savage to lower the car.
No, it wont lower the suspension, it just sets the suspension lower and therefore makes the car lower. The suspension will stay exactly the way it is, the position will just change in this case it will be moved to a lower positition.

Me myself i think it is just a hole mabey for adjusting the suspension but like hpi said it only has one monuting hole

SteveP This proves my point.:D
On mounting positions do yous think they will even be of use? My truck has 15 shock mount positions, in over two years I have only used one of those. The old maxx had but one. Think about how experienced you are Do you know how changes to the shock mounting will effect the truck, be able to feel the difference one hole change makes if any on a MT. If not dont worry about # of mounts. Didnt stop the "old" maxx from having an ok suspension.

I drove the truck today....and the new Tmaxx also.....The savage feels more surefooted......the suspension is also all its cracked up to be....I thought the truck would be a little bigger, the Terra crusher seems to dwarf it....on monday,I'm putting teh terra wheels and tires on it.....see if that helps ythe illusion.....
the tmaxx was faster.....that 2.5 is god awful fast...but the Savage is way overbuilt..the arms are a thing of beauty....you never feel that the savage was built with upgrading in mind...though I would love to see this truck wityh the new big joe tires...and a wider and longer body(like the el camino)..all in all, well worth 400...

well,we ran it today...2 jumps in and it broke the rear hub....the good news is that you can swap teh hubs left to right and keep running....also,the truck jumps extremely well.....we took it full speed of a skateboard ramp and landed on one rear wheel..OOOPs....on pavement.....I ran it up a 60 degree 20 ft hill....from the middle at a dead stop....it ran right up the hill....after doing this 10 times, the engine wasn't even hitting 230...so thats a good sign also...its a good engine...but I'll be dropping in a RG..when thats possible....

Harry, who got their grummy hands on one in the US, and where can I get it? Hehe :D
So, it handled well? How was the suspension? Fast? Climb well? Jump well? Hehe...

handles real well.....suspension works as advertised.....Not as fast as I thought it would be...I ran a 2.5 tmaxx right next to it..it was no contest(the tmaxx pulls it easy)......it has a ton of torque...see my last post for climbing....and it jumps real well....
BUT..heres the part I like.....it feels real solid..I never get that uneasy tippy feeling like the maxx....(the new one also)..iand the quality doesn't have that tmaxx feel..ythe arms are real solid....like I said,we broke a hun..but had it about 6 ft in the air,at full speed...and it landed solid on the left rear wheel....
but I don't think its as stable or solid as a terra crusher.....but teh crusher needs a 21 to compete in power with teh savage(or the tmaxx for that matter)....
I'm going to put terra crusher whells and tires on teh savage tommorrow..see if the taller tires give it some speed...
btw, those hills I was running up has 6 inch tall grass on them...it was no contest..the grass lost the battle..and the engine ran cool//

hey fastharry, if you had a choice between the savage, the t-maxx 2.5 or any other truck around $400 which would you choose overall? What position would the savage be in? If the savage had the t-maxx's 2.5 new engine would it be better than the t-maxx 2.5? sorry for the the questions but i pre-ordered my savage at my lhs about 3 weeks ago and i cant wait for it
thanks

well,Id have to go for the savage...i think it smore solid than the tmaxx(and I have an older one)....and its a terrific package for 400....
I'm getting one...top speed isn't everything....and I don't care what anyone says..that Traxxas trans is a pain.....we beat the heck out of the savage, and the trans, dogbones, and everything else held up great...

hey guys,
i currently own a savage, and it is just as fastharry says.
if i weren't me i would would buy one over the new maxx.
fastharry, would you say the maxx with the proline suspension and deep-offset wheels handles more like the savage? stability etc...
Thanks,

looks like the savage will come it kit form too, HPI posted the manual and it has all the building instructions
The savage is very good. have a look at my videos on www.jwhscott.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk or the savage threads on
HPI R/C Forum [Europe] > HPI Kits > Trucks > at www.hpi-europe.com , and a few other owner's reviews.
There were a few very minor problems, but have easily sorted them.
Likes:
T-maxx compatibility with bodyshells and wheels.
stability and strength.
good design - easy to understand - very tough - good ideas (eg. Left hand wheels have left hand thread) - well balanced so it flies well. :)
Dislikes:
radio tray is a good idea but very difficult to get a reasonable radio in - fiddley
disk brake underneath... like..... hello...... offroad truck........
there's still alot to be experienced and learnt though.
overall so far: 8 - 9 out of 10 (IMHO)
