hi guys,
I have some ?s about weed-wacker boats. I have a "weed eater feather lite" model, it displaces about 21cc, it has a walbro carb and it weighs around 3 or 4 pounds. i am thinking about matching it up with either a monohull or a deep-vee. I want speed but i also want to cut through the water fairly well. what size hull should i use? what size prop? what running hardware? what hop-ups could i do to it? Aproxx. how fast would it go? I need some advice. please help! thanks! daken:confused:

wow how to begin.
first things, gut the muffler-get a bigger carb walbro WA167 (bh hanson has them on a clearance page for $19 usually $37)
other than that maybe some porting but you won't get alot out of that engine. (I think the muffler on that model is held on with springs) use a deep v 42-48"
or a crackerbox. Crackerbox boats are fun to drive because they bounce and skip -- A BLAST! towerhobbies has dumas crackerbox kit for about $130
Use a surface drive beacuse thats the easiest to set up, and we all love roostertails.
Props, hard to say octura x472, prather 270 maybe a 275.
Thants not a common motor to use. now if you pick a homelite i could tell you more and send to to some great sites for hop-up parts and tips.
speed 20-25mph
hardware Octura strudder $90 complete with everythhing you need.

Prices are in US (that wa167 is what i use on my homelites)
Harbor Frieght tools, and Home depot carry homelites ($60-80) But many lawn mower shops have used ones. Call around ask for a 25 or 30cc homelite. (they don't make the 30cc anymore but alot are floating around.) I run three homelites. Each one with different mods, and no tune pipe. I get 30mph easy, in a 56" fiberglass hull. Those are 25cc's, i'm currently working on a highly modified 30cc, that will either run good, or blow-up...will see soon.

This site is great for gassers. If you have the cash ($250) you can get a new zenoah g230rc or 260 and that 30mph could almost double.

thanks alot for the info! Is there any places that you can get second hand "homies" for cheap? would a homie throw a rooster tail with an octura suface drive, if so how high? I am a bit late on menichning this but, i am going to build the hull. out of fiberglass i think. is it better to get a blower a trimmer or a chainsaw? How do you reduce the shaft size on a homie? what size shaft and flex cable should it be? thanks alot!

Call rental places, or call repair shops and see if they have any old homelites. Sometimes they give them away.
Blowers have a different crankshaft that is harder to adapt to boats also most rotate the wrong direction.
Chainsaw- most turn in the wrong direction.
homie has a 1/4 square drive cable that slips into the engine. just cut the cable and solder it to the farrel that attaches to the prop.

Don't try to re-invent the wheel for your first boat. Follow what works, and get a boat in the water. Then experiment.
Check out every inch of the site i list. It is filled with great info.

that is the most informitive site that i've ever been to! i am going to get a blower i will try to get one tommorow. I still have a few ?'s- what are rails? what are stringers? what are those lines on the bottem of the boat called? if my boat is a mono how big should it be? and how do you make the motor mounts for a homie? or canyou buy them for rather cheap? thanks daken

I'll try to answer a couple of questions
Rails ,stringers :in gasoline model boats they are both the same, they parallel pieces of plywood on the bottom of the hull, your engine mounts in between and your radio bx sits on top, for weedeater
engines 5" in. apart
lines: called strakes they the boat get up on plane and corner
the big guy in the center is the keel
mono for gasoline power:the sizes generally start at 46"
Homelite mounts are so cheap its easier buy than make
35 U.S. dollars from Marine Specialties
