View Full Version : Tamiya King Cab
Anyone have a king cab? I picked 1 up at a garage sale last summer for $4 with controller. It just needed a new steering servo and tires. It still has the mechanical speed control, but it has a monster mash motor and runs pretty good.

I have the full size Nissan King-Cab. I would like to find a Nissan King-Cab body to put on my stampede. Do you know if they still sell the body new some place?

There is a brand new tamiya king cab body on ebay, but they want $60 to start. The body on mine is pretty beat up. Thinking about trying a stampede body for it, not sure how it will fit though.

I would try a hpi f-150. I have one and it fits my kyosho outrage perfect. Just try to match the humps in the body with the shock towers. Or just whatever fits the rear humps on my outrage don't line up but oh well. But for that low slung look line them up.:)

The Tamiya King Cab body is about 190mm, it fits really snugly onto a Tamiya TA01 / TL-01 touring car, so any truck body that size will fit pretty good.
I think the Protoform Chevy Silerado SS #1422-00 (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDT30&P=7) would be a perfect fit, just judging from the square type shape.

There was a company called Frewer (don't know if they're still around), which made replacement body sets for the King Cab, Monster Beetle, Boomerang and others for quite some time, so try and look them up.
Thanks, I'll take a look at it.

The King Cab has a interesting part in Tamiya's history. It, along with the Astute, Mad Cap and Egress, launched a new, more competitive edge to the Tamiya line up. It was Tamiya's first racing truck (and possibly the first "kitted" one as well). It ran right up there with the competitve conversion trucks of the time. Unfortunately the King's time in the spotlight was cut short by the introduction of another racing truck shortly thereafter...the Losi JR-XT. Still, the King Cab marks a "first" for Tamiya and might increase in value through time.

wooo...i've got 4 chassis, 2 hilux and 2 cabs (3 cab bodies) and only 1 hex nut is missing from the rear of 1 hub..anyone has anyidea if any other wheel axles can fit the cab?...the cab bodies are known to become brittle over time...mine are...not so lasting..the hilux ones are solid, very hardy indeed.

Nice work. Looks like your trans gear and shaft end support had the same issues mine had.

Yeah I had read about the problems with these when I purchased the KC way back when amd immediately purchased it. I just picked up an immaculate KC with a Jeep body along with the original KC Body/Roll Bar/Decals and manual for a really good price on E-bay. I'll post some pics of that one soon.

OK, wow. Old thread. I'll post anyway in the hopes that I can get some help. I have two RC trucks from my kids that have long since moved out. I’m board and figured I'd mess with them. The 20+ year old pumpkin runs just fine the King Cab has issues. I am assuming ist the clutch. Loud squealing and then it picks up speed slowly. I have looked around the net but did not see any replacement parts. Is there anyway to just fix the one I have. Thanks for any help fellas

Thankfully, there are some old guys here who still remember these trucks! :) Loved mine, a great handling truck.
First, don't run it anymore and check the ball diff....99% sure that's your issue. Hopefully it is just loose. To be sure it is tightened, you can put a small allen wrench (same size as the pinion screw) into one of the outdrives, hold the other outdrive, tun the wrench and it should tighten up. If it is tight already, it may be worn out and need a rebuild.

Hey cool! Thanks for the reply! I'm not going to dive it until I get this all sorted out. Before I even get into it I ordered a parts kit for the diff from some where in the UK, should be here in about 14 days. Everything else on the car looks great, just super dirty. Im going to take it all apart tonight and clean it. I was looking into maybe building a newer truck. I like the Tamiya DF-01. Anyone know about this truck?

Good luck with the diff!
DF01 aka the TA02 - oh certainly. Browse the TA02 chassis for all kinds of cars and trucks built off that chassis. Fun chassis...a little dated in design, but durable and a good handler.

I don't know too much about these but as soon as I got the electrics in mine I broke a front knuckle. Right where the steering rod attaches. I replaced them with midnight pumpkin/lunchbox parts and they seem fine now. I bought a motor mount from ebay because the package had OP on it. My truck already has one so I guess its an Option Part for something else. If anyone needs it let me know. I also need a way to keep my battery in as mine is missing the battery retainer.

OK, got the rebuild kit from tamiya. And the dif really bites in now. My only question is that it still makes a small amount of squealing noise when it pulls out hard. Just was wondering if a small amount of noise is normal. I was thinking that I might put one more shim in each side of the dif and see if that makes things a little tighter? What do you guys think? I just want to make sure that I’ve got this all right so that I don’t damage any other parts.
Thanks!
