I just got my December issue of RCCA and in it it has the new sport maxx and i was just wondering what and why would they make differences??? like what r the differences between this new Sport maxx and the new T-Maxx other than the 2-wd, lighter, and more torgue to wieght ratio or is that all???...also why would traxxas make a sport maxx is there any point? to me there seems to be no big real difference

The SportMaxx is a new T-Maxx without reverse, 4 wheel drive, a 2-speed, and that's about it. The gear ratio is changed, I believe, so it hits about 30 MPH top speed. It should sell for around 300 bucks.

Traxxas obviously felt their was a market for this truck, or they wouldn't have made it. It should be a nice truck for people who can't afford a full on T-Maxx.

It is also a replacement for the nitro Stampede which had the tired TRX Pro .15 in it. There is also the appeal of rear wheel drive for those who like feel of power sliding like a big stadium truck. Even without the 2-speed this will reach top speed VERY quickly.

The Sport Maxx was created for the Budget people who couln't buy a T-Maxx at once. I think it's a great idea for those people who can't afford it, don't want the 2-speed option, or want 2WD. You can mix and match your setup. People who had the T-Maxx had to get a FOC and usually leave the tranny in 1st or 2nd gear. Now all you gotta get is the front drivetrain for the S-Maxx .. I also heard they are continueing to make the Stampede and the S-Maxx isn't a replacement for it.

Rob, the Stampede isn't being discontinued...

I'd bet the Nitro 'Pede and Sport Maxx are both being continued: Both have their own niche in the market.

I like the idea of the 2WD Maxx: The truck is still a good size, not too big or too small, and you don't NEED 4WD and the 2-speed to go out and bash. Up until the Maxx, most trucks, gas and electric, were 2WD. It's less maintenance, cheaper, and lighter, which means faster with the same engine.

Tower has them pre-order for $320, and when they come in they'll be even cheaper. I think it's a good idea, though it should be significantly cheaper than the regular T-Maxx to make it worthwhile.

Actually Draggerman if you look at the big Traxxas spread in the new December issue of RCCA you will notice that the nitro stampede is missing, the electric Stampede remains. I believe I read somewhere on the Traxxas home page that the Sport was meant to replace the n. Stampede. Traxxas put the 2.5 in the Rustler and the 4-Tec but probably couldn't put it in the N.Stampede without major modifications. Just a guess.
Sorry Draggerman you must be correct, I just went to the Traxxas site and the N.Stampede is still there in the products page but it does still list the TRX Pro.15. Who in their right mind would buy the N.Stampede when they could get the 2.5 Sport for $20 more?
