Pools, clear ponds, anyplace where the water is clear enough to see through. But if you mount a small wireless camera transmitter or two in the sub, then you could run it almost anywhere.

The range on the RC equipment underwater is, for all intents and purposes, meaningless because you will not be able to see the boat by the time it gets any respectable distance away.

Call it silly but I picked up an off brand mini sub like the Mega Tech Ocean Explorer 1 and I use it in my 55 gallon fish tank. It's great for settleing territoral disputes between my fish. The sub always wins.

The only thing about the mini subs (eg megatech ocean explorer) used in an aquarium is size. The sub may be tiny but the tank needs to be big. My 55gal seam almost too small. manuvering is tight, but in a large tank, say 75+ gallons I would be much cooler. But this is not a convincing enough argument for my Director of Finance (my wife) to allow my to buy the 125gal tank I've been eyeing.
