Does anyone has more information about the HPI Savage 21, pictures, videos and such?
Thanks

www.hpiracing.com has a bunch of pics and a few videos. It's not even out yet, so don't expect too much from anybody but HPI until it is.

Do you know when it will be out?

It will probably be in stores between now and Thanksgiving. Probably sooner than later, but getting a hold of them might be tough for a while. Exact sale dates are never really solid, for whatever reason, but sometime in November is a safe bet.

How was it, fast, good handeling? Was it "better" than the T-Maxx? Powerful? :D
Thanks

Didn't see it run

Okay, you just saw it. Was it bigger than the T-Maxx, wider. or pretty much the same?
fezzy

Its the same width as a T-Maxx with the Proline Suspension Kit, seemed about the same length as a T-Maxx, maybe more..

Not too bad, still not sure which one to get, thus , I have plenty of time to think, will only get one in the Spring, it is close to winter now, so, time to gather more information.:D

Here in the UK we don't stop burning nitro all year round, on and off-road!

HPI has released their instructions (http://www.hpiracing.com/instructions/instruct-savage21.htm) for the Savage on their site. In looking over the instructions, I made the following observations:
Likes:
The diffs look to be copies of the MP7.5 diffs. I hope they are made like the MP7.5 diffs or are interchangeable with them.
The sealed two-speed mechanism looks like it should work well but this depends on the materials used to make them so time will tell.
The driveline parts look robust and should handle the punishment of the 21 engines. Again, the materials used will determine this.
The wheel axles are left and right-centric. The left wheel nuts have right-hand-thread while the right wheel nuts have a left-hand-thread. This will prevent the wheel nuts from unthreading themselves from the twisting action from the torquey engine.
The suspension carriers have the lower mounting point about 1/3 of the way up the carrier, which will give the suspension arm a bit more clearance to the ground, but this also means that the ride height can be raised that much more.
The truck will come with a throttle return spring installed at the factory.
Dislikes:
HPI still sticks with the finger-type two-speed mechanism that I hate so much. Why couldn't they design a two-shoe system that everyone else is changing to? Okay, Traxxas uses this on their T-Maxx but the T uses a .15 engine that has a lot less torque than the Savage's 21.
The diff housings can be a source of problems in the long run. This is because they mount the diff housings to aluminum plates just like on a buggy (again, reminds me of the MP7.5) but the plate has a big hole in it for gear clearance and a large plastic skid plate covers the bottom of this plate. The problem is that with all those mating surfaces you have a much higher chance of having something not mate up good and you can get fine dust in the gears which will wear them down quickly.
The spur gear looks to be a unique item that you won't find anywhere else. Probably plastic, too. I wonder how hard it will be to strip it and then if the part will be readily available to repair it?
The fuel tank looks like it will sustain damage from a serious roll.
The 'sealed' radio box looks like it will allow water to enter and then have nowhere to go once inside. Also, no provision is made to allow the use of larger, torquier servos.
No camber adjustments are available at all.
HPI, in their typical way, has spec'd the Savage with a lot of room for improvement. I can see them coming out with CVD's, turnbuckles, aluminum shocks, etc.

The savage is out already? I thought it was going to be next month!? Am I just slow?:D
The Savage has been released in Europe. The price that guy just quoted is about $70 above retail but if you're desperate enough I guess....

actually it's about $60 above retail and shipping w/ insurance from japan is about $30. you know your lhs won't have them for retail and if you do find it at retail which is towerhobbies, you still have to pay $20 shipping. just offering you guys the chance to be the first on your block, that or wait for the rush at the hobby shop, remember that it's christmas time.

Actually I pre-ordered mine from Tower, and after their $25 off coupon you only pay $402.98 shipped to your door:)
Can't beat that for price, but if you really want one early $500 isn't that bad of a price.

i'm just a poor military boy trying to make a few extra bucks for my sm e-maxx. i did get a chance to look the truck over and can say i'm very impressed. it's built very well right along the lines of the nitro rs4. it has a few purple anodized parts here and there. it's only slightly bigger than a t-maxx but feels like it weighs a little less. comes with cvd's all around and rubber sealed ball bearings all around. i just put the savage wheels and tires on my maxx and they are awesome. tires are pretty soft though but they sure beat my stockers. if anyone really wants one, i'll do it for $450 including shipping. that is me making no money, but the owner of my lhs is so nice he gives money off for every so much spent so that will be my reward.

1. How fast to you think the truck is geared to go.
2. Is it really fast getting there. Can you compare it to something.
3. Will it wheelie from a dead stop, if so will it flip right over or does it do a power wheelie. Or will it not wheelie at all.
These are just some key issues that will make a lot of us wait around for this killer looking truck before we make a silly purchase now.

To give you some background on those trucks in the Wild Hobbies video, the one with the stock black, silver and purple truck body is Kent Clausen's truck. It had about 5-6 tanks through it at the time of the shooting. The red "Mad Max" El Camino is my truck and had about 15-20 tanks through it at the time of the shooting. The trucks ran so good that the Wild Hobbies guys actually ran out of memory in their video and digital cameras before the trucks ever quit. As you can tell by the review, the Wild Hobbies guys were very pleased with the truck.

That vid at Wild Hobbies is the best I've seen so far. Troy I love your El Camino body. The broken glass window cut out is very cool. Time seems to stand still waiting for this truck to come out, I've had it on back order for over 2 months now!!!!!!

:p :p :p :p if the " red " SAVAGE is yours my friend you REALLY need driving lessons and quick, you cant even make a normall left hand turn with out flipping the POOR truck over and your jumping abilities, or should I say your crashing technique is really in need of help, your friend with you that day seems to know how to play with his truck where as you seem like a first time runner, not trying to over exagerate the situation or anything but I have an 8 yrs old daughter who can and does drive much better then you, once my savage arrives I will more then likely let her try it, but if you where here, I would lock it behind closed doors and throw the key away just to make sure you would'nt touch it.......... seriously dude, learn to drive before atempting anything else, you might hurt yourself or someone else.

The Savage is on it's way in the USA. HPI shipped them to distributors last friday. They should arrive around thursday or friday. From there they go to your hobby shop or tower if that is the case. Then they will be shipping out to customers. I backordered with tower but I also backordered with my LHS and my LHS told me yesterday that it "WILL BE HERE ON FRIDAY" Looks like I'm going to have to skip work that day. Hope you guys get yours soon too!

That is my truck and not all the film is with me behind the wheel. The guy running the purple truck also was the one driving my truck when it did that one jump then tumbled afterwards. The last time I drove off road the "other" Bush was in office so yea, I am a little new to off road. As for the roll overs, the ground we were running on was VERY rutted and those roll overs were not the driver or truck's doing. I'll be the first to tell you that I've probably wrecked my truck more than anyone here...I don't have a problem with that...at least I'm having fun, right...:D
However, when it comes to running on road...that's a different story. I'm no Harra or Garner, but I hold my own. Just ask some of the guys on this board that have ran against me. Heck, if you see Bob Hastings from RCCA on here ask him about my on road driving. :) (Hey Bob! LOL). But before you start bashing on someone for their driving, and forgetting the fact that you don't even know me or knew that I wasn't always the one driving that truck, remember that we were all Newbies and couldn't drive at sometime. If this is the way you treat new drivers at your track I feel real sorry for you...because soon it will be just you, your daughter if you don't bash her this way when she screws up driving, and anyone better than you at your track racing...until it closes because of no new drivers showing up...
Just a thought from a "very bad driver" :D

Hey man, chill out a little, there was lots of "sarcasm" in there, did'nt mean to offend you that bad, I'm very sorry if I poked your humour that day, seriously, where we race there are alot of "newbies" and I was one of them also about 10 yrs ago, we dont laugh at them and even in some cases we give them a few pointers to help them out. I to also drive on pavement, much more then offroad, I own a Picco integra with a picco GSR engine, this baby kicks but real bad, I,m not a pro but out of 8 races this year I have 3 first, 1 second 3 fourts and a DNF ( ripped the belt drive), so, see like you I'm not a kid either, and as for my daughter, next year she will be racing my rustler , hopes she can win a few just to show the guys that a kid can win ( i dont know but she's really good at this rc stuff).
so with all this said and done, again, sorry to have offended you .
