Allright guys I haven't posted in a long while and at the same time haven't been following the rc stuff. I just saw that Traxxas released a t-maxx with a 2.5 motor. Is this right or is it just a .16 with more power with some silly marketing name not actually representing the engine size. Also how does it perform?

Thanks this has probably been covered before but bear with me.

The 2.5 engine is basically a ported and tweaked .15 (Or there abouts) size engine. It has about 60% more power when used in the T-Maxx or 100% more power when used in the Nitro Rustler (The NR's exhaust was more restrictive than the T-Maxxes).

Traxxas wanted to continue to use a 'small block' to keep the truck lighter, easier to work on, and less expensive. I think it makes perfect sense: All the benefits of a .21-size engine (More power and speed) without the headaches (Extra weight, cost, extra maintenance).

It's definitely a different engine, and the claims are real. The name, well, that's 'true' but is also a marketing ploy. I think the engine displacement is 2.5ccs or something, whatever the equivalant of .15 is. They kind of had to do it thought: People are idiots, and if they see '.15' on the box, they'll think they NEED to upgrade to a more powerful engine. Since they only know bigger is better, 2.5 sounds like .21.

Think of it like putting medicine in ice cream so a little kid will eat it.

This topic has been covered many times so I will keep it brief. Traxxas simply called it the 2.5 because it is a 2.5 cc (metric volume) engine which converts to .15 cubic inches. If you look at most .21's (most of which are made overseas) they have 3.5 stamped on the block. 3.5 cc's equals .21 cubic inches. Since we are probably the single most stubborn country in the world when comes to changing over to the metric system I am not surprised that people don't understand the 2.5 label because we lag behind a lot of the world in teaching math as well. The new Tmaxx (stock) has been beating .21 Maxxes at the tracks, this motor rates with ANY small block anywhere. The truck flat out flies, handles better because of the wider stance and adjustable shock positioning. Check one out in person and you will see why Traxxas chose to give the engine a special designation.

Fezzy hey there, Ya it's been a while. Kids will do it to you. It seems for some reason every winter I get sucked back in though. Probably due to all the new products. I still have that pirate 10 monster. It runs well but is still a little hard to control. I haven't started my stuff all summer. I just got a tower catalog and was looking through the new stuff and saw some of the cars. I'll probably go pick up the new rc car action tonight. My interest has been peaked. I looked at the dominater and while it does look sweet it looks a lot like a monster pirate. Am I correct in assuming this? I have an old Monster blazer still, that is in sweet shape. So I'd probably pass on that one for now.

Good hearing from you guys though. THanks for the info.

The Dominator is an 'evolution' of the MP, its the same chassis but there are key upgrades over the MP, some of which are....

Slipper Clutch
4 1/4" Hyper7 Rear Shocks F/R
MT3 Rims/Tyres (Maxx Sized)
Tall Front Shock Tower (4mm thick)
Thicker (4mm) Rear Shock Tower
Aluminium Differential Housing
New Fuel Tank
Revised Front Chassis Brace
Bumpers/Skidplates

If i where you i'd just upgrade your MB, i have heard its a very compitant truck with the right upgrades. You just need the PPP GT Kit, Maxx Sized Rims/Tyres, new shell and its ready to rock.
