hey guys,
i have talked with several other racers living in Richmond, and we have decided to try starting a Richmond-based club. If it works out, the club will be open to all nitro/gas racers, including[hopefully] a class like IMPBA's soon-to-be ABC class, an amatuer class for guys with boats between .12 and .21-sized engines.
If you are interested in joining, please email me at mmlennarz@earthlink.net , otherwise please spread the word. also, if you are interested in sponsoring the club [no name yet], please email me. we will probably be having a meeting for anyone interested the first weekend of November.

thanks,
joe

who are these "other local racers"? i know of a handful that live in richmond that are still active racers. not many that i know of. are you a member of IMPBA? just wondering. i live in mechanicsville about seven miles outside of the city. what's your name? im just curious. i'm also curious about this club. if you do successfully get a club set up, there is nowhere to run. just curious of your plans for this club. if you would e-mail me at disruptore4@yahoo.com i would appreciate it.

thanks buddy, good luck

No, I am not John Finch. I'm sorry to dissapoint you. I am, however, one of John's good friends. My dad has been friends with John F. for a long time, and John has kind of watched me grow up. I'm almost 15, and I've been racing boats since I was 6. John lives only about 4 miles up the road from me. Very nice guy. I go to his test lake with him sometimes and help him test his stuff out. Unbelieveable knowledge of boats and such. If there's a problem, he's got a solution. I don't have his e-mail address, but I'm sure my dad does. I'm still curious on how you got into the boats. And I'm very curious on how you're going to start this club. Is this going to be a very formal club, or just something with a few friends, and some outsiders? Nice talking, sorry for the confusion. Respond as soon as possible!

oh.....sorry. John from mechanicsville who races boats is kind of hard to resist guessing though. my name's joe, im almost 14, and i hail from the wondrous land of rednecks, gun freaks, and soon-to-be-subdivisions. [aka goochland] lucky you, i dont think there are very many [if any] people more knowledgeable about nitro boats than John Finch [i mean, cmon, he's written books on the subject] the club idea started when i whined on intlwaters [great forum, do you have a username there?] about the lack of racing/racers in richmond, and Tony Jacuzzi pointed out that John Finch among others lives in Mechanicsville. i emailed John with the idea, and after a discussion [well, him explaining why it wouldn't work] on the subject, we decided to wait untill there was more interest, and maybe get together and drive boats at his friend's lake. me and some [2/3] other guys out here will be putting up a website for our unofficial team, Rebel Racing, pretty soon. unfortunately, thats all for now. i'll hopefully be joining the Chesapeake crowd with a .21 mono next spring, though.

Thats great dude. Chesapeake is a really really nice place. And John's friend's lake is really nice. He goes there with the likes of names such as Steve Speas (maker of Twin Craft boats) and many other boaters that have large names in IMPBA. But you have to be an IMPBA member in order to run in the Chesapeake race if you were planning on running in the race and not just watching. Anyway, e-mail me sometime on news on the club and stuff. My boat, the one I race is an old style Twin Craft. Yellow, with a bluehead Picco .45. Awesome running boat. It used to be my dads, and he won two IMPBA National Champoinsips with it. I can still kick ass with this boat, and it's about 10 years old. Unbelievable. I've been itching for something faster though, and my dad is supposed to get another Picco .45 from John, and I'm going to build an Eagle SG, (Andy Brown's design) which is a rigger, and it's going to be so much fun. My dad doesn't have a lot of time like he used to have to race boats. He works seven days a week, but we find time here and there for boats. I'm probably going to call John up sometime soon to see when he's going to test again, because it's a lot of fun to go testing with him. You knew he was working on his own boat design, right? It's an all wood hull, and it's about two feet long, and he has a .45 in it. You'd think it wouldn't stay on the water, but it does. He has been experimenting with spoilers and things like that, and it's really neat to see him work. Anyway, sorry for rambling on, but respond as soon as possible. By the way, what setup do you run? Hope to see you in Chesapeake. It's such a wonderful place if the wind isn't too bad.

.45 TwinCraft, sounds sweet. hope i get to see that thing run, but not with a boat of mine running against it!! i didnt know john was working on a new boat right now.....though he's designed several that i know of, so that's not a suprise.actually, i'm not running anything, my one and only nitro boat hasn't hit the water yet, though im hoping it will by december. [my dad's not into boats, so ive gotta buy everything myself] it's a 25" XS cat [jay turner design] with a K&b .18 inboard. i'm hoping for a .21 mono for xmas, so i was wondering if you raced those. John F. told me that there were a bunch of young guys running these in Chesapeake.
