I am thinking about purchasing and building an F4U Corsair RC model plane. I know that both Top Flite and Great Planes make different versions-- does anybody out there have an opinion as to which one (or size) is better. I am thinking about going with either a .60 engine model (approx. 5 feet wingspan), or the next-step up, the Giant scale one (83 inch wingspan). I would love to hear any success/horror stories from flyers/builders. If you know of anyone with information, please e-mail me directly at BillyLogue@aol.com. Thanks everyone!!

Go for the Top Flite Corsair, It is a pleasure to build and turns out very nicely. The Flaps are dicey, but so were they in the F4U. It is very close to scale and if you want to make it true to the original, this is the kit that will work. Put A O.S. 1.08 or Saito 1.50 or something to power it along, it will give you A good prop size and scale power to weight ratio and flying characteristics. If you dont want to build and get stuck in Wood shavings, Try Iron Bay Model Company, they have bought all of Byron's moulds and are now producing The same quality kits that Byron Originals used to make. Good Corsair there too

Regards

If your a kit builder then yes go for the TF 60 or GS either one is a pleasure to build and fly. If your not a builder then one of the ARF will have to due. I think the Hangar 9 bird looks better than the great planes one. I have also built a Ziroli and all of the Royal kits and none went together as fast as the TF kit. They all say build it light in the tail heres what I did to my current one.

Anyone know if theres anything out there in way of a large ARF Corsair? possibly 1/6 or 1/5 scale! OR maybe in the pipeline and coming soon? I thought I read some where that Top Flite had a larger ARF version available, cant find any info other than their built up version...

Cheers- Marty
