ohhhhh yeah!:D :D  i've been dreaming of getting an rc motorcycle non-stop for like 2 months. I really didn't care if it was the electric or the nitro, just one that I could get my hands on for cheap! So I've been scouring Ebay and noticed that there were a couple that went for about $180. These were the electrics, but it looks and sounds like it would be such a challenge to drive one of these that I just want to see one run and try run it until I could get around a very basic track.
Alas, my MTX2 is calling and needs attending to.:( Oh well, I'll try scrounge up some dough and buy one used.
Steve, how much does that go for, and has anyone tested it yet. A nitro one would be even cooler than an electric!:D :)

Also, is that an rc airplane tuned pipe. It definitely looks like one. Would you have to buy it seperately, or would it be supplied with the kit?

Now, THAT is definitely something I could get into... Is that a Nitro transplant into the Thunder Tiger 1/5 scale electric ???
Is there a company making Nitro motorcycles for impport into the u.s. ??

you own the electric one?
The nitro one is actually made by Thunder tiger as well.
somedude2187
11-10-2002, 05:18 PM
guess I'll start at the top
they go 40-45
thats not an r/c airplane pipe its custom made by nuova faor they make the bike too
That bike is not a ttr conversion, but a ttr conversion exists (not in the u.s.)
no bikes a sold in the u.s. my guess is never will be, no market for them look at the electric one ttr is losing money on them
the nf one can be bought for (your gonna love this) $500 you need an engine and radio get them direct from www.nuovafaor.it (costs more than 500) or buy out of britin www.formboymodels.com
there are 2 nitro bikes actully this one and the pumillo (know i spelled that wrong) do a search you'll find it. think that one is 750 and needs a .21 engine again not in the u.s.
Im2lazy
11-11-2002, 04:25 AM
That just decreased my enthusiasm by about 50%, I guess I'll have to try find an electric one then...If I can find it used. I'm not about to go paying $240 for the electirc one new.

Well, with my experience with nitro cars and trucks I want to add some insight:
Nitro is really fun, but has a lot of drawbacks...........
Noise......try running nitro on a Sunday morning in your street and see what your neighbors think of you!
Messy.......oil spewy everywhere on everything. Not a big deal, but a big mess to keep clean.
Cost......nitro fuel is expensive and not renewable like battery packs. Also, initial cost of the bike and engine is 3 times that of the electric.
Tuning........getting the engine broken in and then tuned can be very frustrating sometimes. It takes a lot of patience, and trial and error and certainly some skill and experience to get it right.
Maintenence..........nitro engines vibrate like the dickens. If you have a screw that is not Loctited you will loose it. Period! So you must maintain constant vigilance for loose screws, and also the nitro engine needs maintenance and parts replacement. Now, this can be considered fun for some. Headaches for others. Which are you?
Advantages of nitro..........
Smell.........there's nothing like the smell of nitro engines!
Sound.........yeah baby, that's the real deal there!
Speed.......easily faster than electrics in most cases, but not all!
Water.......can blast through water with impunity.
Now then, electrics have some disadvantages also.......
Maintenance........Electric motors need lots of maintainence such as brushes and comm cuts and then replacements. Or just buy another $17 motor. Solution? Go brushless!
Batteries and chargers........... You really should have good batteries and a good charger to take advantage of the potential in the electric motors. This adds $$$
Sound........nothing to be happy about here
The advantages of electric are many, IMHO.......
Quiet........can run anywhere, anytime!
Clean.......no mess, no oil to clean, no drips on the living room carpet!
Maintanence......rarely do screws vibrate out compared to nitro machines. As for motors, can really go a long time without maintanence if you are not a racer and need 100% top performance all the time. And like I said, go brushless and motor maintanence is history.
Cost.......significantly lower initial investment and recurring costs compared to nitro.
Tuning.........easy, any 1st timer can do it. Plug and play. No break-in. No tuning for different weather, etc. All you need to do to go faster or have more acceleration are simple experiments with gear changes.
So there is my opinion on the subject. :) I think both are good and bad, and there is a place for both in my 'r/c garage'. But cetainly the issues of each should be thought out before making that purchase and plunking down those hard earned dollars.

Very good points about Nitro vs. Elec.
I going to try and stuff a 4 stroker in. I'm guessing that they are no less messy or possibly frustrating?
This is something I simply have fun with at the moment and fun for me is sometimes trying to get things to work that are difficult. Like modifying a TT frame to accept a 4 stroke nitro is going to be. I'm still going to do it but it may be with an old used TT frame if I can find one.

I'm back :D
anyway, some general information about some nitro RC bikes:
-I think this is the first nitro bike I will buy, although it's very expensive (820 USD, damn..):
http://www.pumilio.fi/eb_main.html
looks most advanced and amazing to me, 1 sided rear swingarm and 1 sided on front too, a .21 (3.5cc) engine while NOVAFOUR gets a .15, and I realy liked the scale looking side Muffler!
-NOVAFOUR, .15 engine, and a front Disc brake (!!) this bike looks not as well crafted comparing it to the Pumilio... but that when the price issue comes up, I think you can find the kit for about 500 bucks.

Well they both look nice, tho IMO the Nuovo Faor looks more like a motorcycle.
It's funny, strange how something like this isn't popular in the states.
I would trade almost anything I have, including a heli, for a really nice nitro bike. They're unique. In the states EVERYONE has a T-Max, or a TC3, or something from Trinity or Kyosho.
A svelte Italian cafe racer is something that almost NO ONE else has.;)

07-19-2003, 09:18 AM
Jitters my advise to you would be to buy one nitro or electric. These things in a wide open parking lot just rock. I think everyones into them, but for $500 not many people are willing to drop the cash. Ask any guys in the electric forum or anyone who owns one, they will all tell you the same thing that they are worth the price.
If you do decide to get one check out www.crazynutracing.com I think they are the cheapest. They also sell parts for the electric but some are compatible with the nitro.
Jitters
07-20-2003, 12:38 AM
Cool, I'll check them out. I know $500 is a lot for just 2 wheels:D
But look at what a Kanai costs, or a nice Trinity, or anything that's quality.

The road bikes don't need a Gyro but you would think that a dirt bike might benefit from having one because of the soft stuff and keeping it up right when getting air.
Lets hope the guy keeps us all posted on his progress. A nitro RC dirt bike if it works well could take off huge!!

yea I always wondered about how it would stay up. my ttr goes over if it hits a small pothole while in a turn. With just countersteer it would be limited to an offroad track but still a cool concept. then again i've never drove a real dirtbike or r/c.

Ed now log onto www.rcgroups.com motorcycle forum. That's where all the 1/5 NF and TT nitro and electric motorcycle guys hang out. You'll find plenty of help with your bike there.
Also, plan on bringing your NF to Las Vegas in May for the 1st annual R/C motorcycle races in the USA. CNR is one of the sponsors. There will be a nitro class, but the Brits and Aussies that will be there may have the upper hand, race experience-wise! :D
You don't want to miss it!!

I think most of the nf owners are putting the OS 15 crv-x or somthing like that in the bike. I've hears the novarossi is hard to tune unless your very good at tuning the 2 stroker.
tphss
06-30-2004, 07:33 AM
You don't need to be a genius to tune an engine, Novarossi's are bit more difficult to tune, and they need re-tuning every once in a while as well.
O.S. should be a good choise, usually OS keeps the carb needles stiff and tuned and are not loosen and need re-tuning with time (after a longer period).
But NF recommends that .15 novarossi engine, I would go with that unless you are sure fitting will be exactly the same (not much room in there you know...).
Drillah
06-30-2004, 10:22 AM
You're right tphss, it doesn't take a genius to tune an engine.
If you do decide to go with the OS mikecasc, thier are plenty of guys over at rcgroups.com forums that have done that and they are very helpful. It does take a bit of filing this and slotting that but if you like to tinker and modify it might be easy for you. Check out www.nitrobike.co.uk where John talks a bit about his experience with the novarossi engine.
Either way you go, when you get it running you'll have a blast. :D

alright, so I'm looking at this ducati nitro, definately into it, being that I'm a knee dragger myself, this thing is on my list, hopefully will have it next month, since I'm sure I'll have to order it, no one so far carries it in stock, anyone want to tell me the pros and cons? what it's durability... if i roll it a couple times am I gonna kill it? I had a couple of the electric ones way back in the day when they first came out, my buddies and I used to race eachother, but they weren't very crash friendly, I want it very badly, gonna get it no matter what, but I want to know what I'm gonna be replacing right away, lol, thanks

I'm just about finished building up a bike. Thunder Tiger Ducati Desmo. Heavily modded with about every part you can find for these bikes. Dual alloy disk brakes up front from Pat's brakes in Australia. Tornado forks, RD Ti tank and pipe, Carbon top chassis and rear chassis. Tomorrow the whole chassis will be carbon as soon as the parts come in. AllEven micro drive chain and sprockets. About 1/3 the size of the TTR parts and a lot lighter for better acceleration. Integy shock on the rear. CNR Hurricane wheels with GRP medium on front and a soft on the rear.

Yea those parts are supposed to be here tomorrow. I'll get some more pics when I have them installed. And the RD Logics pit stand as well. Another sweet piece for the bike. I have a killer paint job coming too. Most of the hop up parts came from 2wheelhobbies. Bruce is a great guy to deal with. Better selection than anyone around, ships quick and I've had no problems at all with anything from 2wheelhobbies. There are a few other places getting into the motorcycle stuff but I'd rather deal with someone who is knowledgeable and basically does only motorcycles. So if you want to buy one of these 2wheel beasts give 2wheel a call and he'll fix you up real proper like ;)

There aren't any Lexan ones that you don't have to assemble. Putting a rider like the Alleven RC one isn't that difficult, just cut carefully and reinforce with Shoe Goo after painting (if you are going to paint on the inside). I always also make a Shoe Goo collar around the rider's neck, since the helmet can take some pretty hard hits in a rollover.

The TTR hop-ups I bought from 2wheelhobbies.com. The forks I bought straight from Tornado in England and the front brakes come from Pat's brakes in Australia. I think that is the only 3 suppliers I used.

I live right across the street from Lake Lbj in the Tx Hill Country. Around the corner is a really nice cove that is nice and smooth. There is a small park and a launching ramp there. Usually someone around to retrieve a boat if it gets stuck on the water. So I'm going to get one soon as well. Haven't quite decided what kind yet. I really like the sailboats. But a powered boat is probably what I'll end up with. I have some friends in Cali that do the drag boat and those hydros that go unreal speeds. They are pretty amazing. I do a lot of videos myself. Just upgraded my rig in fact. Bought a VariZoom DV Rig Pro over the shoulder stabilizer. Basically it converts any mini-dv cam to a shoiulder held one. And to get the fat sound that the internal mic just won't get I added a Rode SVM stereo video mic. Awsome sound now and great stereo ambience. I'm encoding a 20 minute video of a truggy race in Austin Tx last weekend right now. I'll have it up on my site so you can stream it by midnight central time. Check it out. Pretty much the whole race the actual heat was 30 minutes. So 10 minutes to move around the track rest the arms and wrists and such. Outside of the intro music and a little on the exit its all the sound of a nitro off-road race in Hi-Fi. Some interesting effects as well.
Check it out at this link around midnight tonight :)

Well I had a mild heart attack on the 22'nd. Didn't hurt my heart muscle any just gave me a big warning shot. There is a hospital close to my house but they don't really have the resources to treat cardiac problems. They send you on to Austin and the ambulance ride costs 2K so I had my wife drive me. Found out on Sunday I was going to have to have a quintuple bypass no way to fix it this time with balloons and stents. And I couldn't go home because I was 100% blocked in two arteries with 3 tiny arteries my heart had made to get around the blockage keeping me alive. Had the bypass day after Christmas and by that afternoon I was standing up. Went back to my regular room next day and after 3 more days of walking and blowing into the spirometer to get my lungs cleared out I was home. Took to the drivers stand the next day and ran my GT2 in the practice sessions. They get it done quickly nowadays. With a little work on your part it goes real quick. Man I feel great too. I haven't much felt like messing with any of my R/C's in the past 6 months or so. I sold off all of them but the bike and GT2. Now I have plenty of energy but I probably won't go back to racing that much. I love to shoot video a lot more and I'm better at that than driving. I had quit smoking a week or so before the surgery and started making changes to my diet. Something told me I needed to do this stuff all of a sudden. I'd had stents in 2000 so I was about due. Between then and now I've been getting my lipid test numbers in the green but I never could quite quit the cigs. Now I'm eating right and not smoking getting exercise twice a day. I feel like a million bucks.
