I just tried some actuators from Bob Selman Designs and am VERY happy. This little non-scale fun-flyer weighs 1.4 oz all-up, and the actuators are strong enough for loops and hammer-heads. They come with arms installed, so it's easy to run pushrods. Thanks Bob!!

This little plane flies as if it had servos installed. Very positive response. These actuators are SUPER! Here, I get a close look in the gym. Camera on timer function.

I'll have to order some more of these actuators. I borrowed the RFFS-100 receiver from my Cessna 180.

Gary,

Do the Selman actuators only work with the RFFS, or would they also work with a GWS R4P?

Tony,

The actuators have only two leads, so I don't think they'll work with an R4P. Bob might have a converter for that application, though.

P.S. SUPER job on your Pitts!

Gary,

Thanks for the kind words about the Pitts. One of these days, I'd like to build something small/slow enough for my front yard (roughly 50x50, with numerous trees around it). I was going to go back to the church property and fly today, but we're having a typical WV autumn day: sunny, cool, and blustery!

hey gary, awesome job it looks like you used more than just the rffs from the cessna, the wheels and tail look familiar too;) . anyway, just wondering what you used for those wings.

one more note, is that a echarger stock motor, gearbox prop your using?

Tony,

Blustery is a good time to stay indoors and build an indoor/front yard flyer. ;)

All Fly All Day,

You're right; I swiped the wheels from the Cessna, but the tailfeathers are new. Dang! Can't I hide ANYTHING from you? Yes, the motor, gears, and prop are stock E-Charger. The wings were hot-wired from blue foam by a friend.

Y'all get some of those actuators, Ya HEAR! :D

Tony,

Here's the straight scoop from Bob on those actuators...

"These are magnetic actuators and will only work if used with a receiver that has the appropriate driver circuitry (RFFS-100 or Ruijsink for example). To be able to use them with a GWS R4P receiver, you would need to use my DPC (for one actuator) or my DDPC (for two actuators). See my website http://users.joplin.com/~bselman "

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks Bob!

Gary,
That's why we started carrying them!! ;)

BTW do you have the updated version of the software yet?

Dan,

See PM.

MicroFlyers,

I flew the little SW (don't ask) at our club meeting last night in a little TINY church gymnasium. I was too busy avoiding walls (successfully) to take pictures, but Kevin Maynard did a GREAT job with the camera. ROGed twice. Everyone liked it. The radio (not up-dated) and Selman actuators performed flawlessly! :)

The 18 inch span looks a little bigger when close to the camera.

Thanks Matt!

Would you happen to know the dates for the next three or four indoor fly-ins at Fayetteville? I see you're not too far from there. Have you been? I have relatives in the vicinity and would like to attend one if I can arrange it.

Thanks.

Happy flying!

Gary,

You guys with those gym flyers are driving me crazy!! I just sent Bob an order for his double N-20 gearbox. I just happen to have two unused N-20 HV motors. I don't know what I'll do with it yet; I'm thinking of building something aerobatic that I can fly in my 50' x 50' front yard. I'm thinking full fuselage, Jedelsky wing, all 1/32" contest grade balsa. The ideas are just starting to bubble up from the deep recesses of my brain, so stay tuned.
