I have a 1700 pack and a custom micro car I made myself, well since one cell is blown in the pack, I was thinking about soldering off a batt or two and making a 5 or 4 cell pack. I just want to know some proper techniques, precautions, ect, and how many amps would I charge this pack at, or would I just do it like regular 6 cell packs?
Just to let you know, I am not stupid at soldering, I just have never done batts before.
Thanks

Well, w/ charging, i think you charge it at the same amperage, cause thats what you do with 6 versus 7 cell packs. I think the amp rate depends on the size of the cell. But, then again, i do not know crap about batteries, i just punch buttons on my super brain and hope everything still works :D

same amperage as you have used for the 6 cell pack. as for soldering the pack together, get a battery jig. a lot of guys like the deans unit and there's some other ones out there too. use a hot soldering iron, i like somewhere between 120 to 140 watts. only heat the battery as long as you have to in order to get a good solder joint between the battery bar and the cell. don't use a lot of solder and be sure to tin each end of the cell first. was this a stick [ack? cause if it was, take a dremel with a sanding drum or an aluminum oxide grinding bit to get the tack welds off the ends of the cells. when you have it together, wrap some 1/2 inch wide fiber tape around it to keep the cells tight and take stress of the battery bars in case the pack gets knocked around a bit. i think that's it. good luck,

I use 40watts. I feel anything more is overkill... If you don't need the extra heat, why chance hurting a cell?
Just a $20 weller 40watt iron, with the large chisel tip. I've been using it for almost 2 years, not sure when i got it, but I've never had problems...

Well I was just unsoldering some cells, did it fine. My gun is a weller 100/140 watt. and I took my friends advice and never held it on for longer than 5 seconds, though after 5 seconds the solder was well melted.
