I aquired this boat with no electronics, It is 36" long fiberglass V-Hull. I have the elect's all working now and am ready to start the engine. Question is there is only an Idle and one other adjustment screw. I checked on the OS site and I think this engine is from the early 90's. Does any one know a good start up setting. :)

You didn't mention the motor size but most of the time it doesn't matter a whole lot. I have bought both new and used motors with no instructions so I've have to guess at where to start. Usually a good spot is around 3-1/2 turns out. If it starts there, adjust it richer or leaner to get it close. You'll want it slightly rich, i.e. so that it has a slight lag when you hit the throttle.

Thanks Ron. I am giving it a shot this weekend. The engine is a OS 61-V on the OS site this engine is discontinued, it said it is from the early 90's. It has alot of compression, I dont think it was ran more than a couple of times.
Again thanks for the info.:)

That's a big motor for a 36" hull! You'll have yourself a handfull when that baby hits the water!

I read an article that mentioned engine sizes, it is a little big. Any tips on how to control this thing. I drive 1/8 buggies and 1/10th GT's is this more difficult? Do you think that is why the guy got rid of it so long ago. Can I use that spray foam insulation as a float helper if I flip, or use those pool tube foam things?
Ron I have a picture but the file is to large to post how can I get it to you? You might know more about this type of boat if you see it.

The size of the motor vs. the hull size will make it fun, the controlling part is in the throttle. Don't go faster than the water will let you.
The pool noodles is the best way to go. Two problems with the spray-in foam. One, the foam will absorb water and fuel. Two, if you put too much in, it may blow the deck and hull apart. A plus on the pool noodles is the color selection, looks cooler than the spray-in. attach the noodles with zip-ties, double-sided tape or usually it will stay in if it is tightly fitted.
Send pix if you want to owetpaint@aol.com . I've had the same problems posting pix in here, most of mine are too large without editing them.

Hi ron are you still out there?? I have been playing with my other toys. Well it ran for about 10 minutes then just stopped (I think the crank broke or seized). I put it up on a shelf (a little upset) and used the excuse of waiting for warmer weather. I think I will pull it apart this weekend. Any Ideas on where I might find some parts just in case? I just didn't want to mess with it after all the time I put into it to have it quit. Now summer is comming and I am getting the itch again!

I'm here! If you broke the crank or rod you will hear a clunk when you try to turn it over. If it's siezed it won't do squat! Now comes the scary part, tearing it down. I blew 2 motors in the past year, one an old Nova Rossi 3.5 that siezed the piston taking the rod with it and a brand new K-45 that decided to cough up a few needle bearings taking the bearing seal with it and tried to travel into the combustion chamber. Both were 'spensive to fix, the NR was replaced with a Rossi Niagara and the K-45 cost me $200.00 to get repaired by Al Hobbs.
I really don't know right off hand where to get OS parts. Go over to www.rcboat.com and ask in there, those guys can find just about anything if you do end up by needing parts. In the meantime I'll surf around and see what I can dig up.

A note on those pool noodles being used for floatation...
If you have to cut them to size , then you MUST seal the ends with heat ( like hitting them really fast with a torch ) . If you do NOT seal them after cutting them to size , they will suck up water like a sponge ....:D
( just my $.02 cents )

Hi ron, and thanks terbobob. I purchased a 61V for an airplane I think and everything fit. The rod was bent real bad and the piston was cracked (a peice missing). The bad news is that the original motor was still new. I will never take anyones word about a engine again. The engine did not even have discoloration on the sleave from being run. Anyways I also bought this cooling adapter for the exaust between the pipe and head, this sure did quiet the engine dowm. It runs good but I have a water leak from somewhere under the head. Thank you ron for your help I will let you know how she does. :)
