I am not looking to fight here, I was just telling you what I saw, what kind of person are you? you where showing off. you do it all the time, I dont want to race you or box you, I am a better person than that. I dont have to talk like you all the time,I know what I can do on the track, I dont need to prove anything to you, You must have a low self esteem problem, because you allways try to talk down to everyone.

Great!! I am not fighting too. Just trying to have fun (Scared). I was telling u what happened and u will tell me u were not even there when I took off my receiver. Why don't u have to hide urself. Tell me who u are. If u have a problem w/ me, just tell me and I am sure I will just listen. I am man enough to hear what u want to say. Like what I said after all of this everything will be ok.
Why can't u just step up to me and tell me why do u hate me. On that day @ Oak Park everything should be ok it does not have to be in forum because this topic is OT in this forum.

Also, I do what all the time? U mean show off all the time?
Are u jealuos of what I can have and I can buy?
Why can't u just mind ur business and do not look on my stuff.
I hope ur not checking out my butt!!!!
Also, why do have to go closer to me and listen to what I say. If u hate me and my guts so much. Why do u have to be around when I am talking.
HTOP is big enough for us to be seperated. Why do u have to go closer to me. Now, I understand its ok if u like guys. That is normal to a lot of poeple from Oak Park.

I never mentioned any NAME about the incident from DAY one, so PLEASE....do not address specific NAME on this issue........and again, I am sure that is NOT SCOTT, Scott is too busy at Atlanta and I don't even know he will show up this year, cause he told me he will need to work at Atlanta untill next year........so please don't add his name on this.....
Besides, why the hell he would do that...? He ran Serpent just like you do.....
And you know it is not me......if I have to say something, I would have ROOKIE SOLARA on top of it.......but honestly, I know better.
This is ALL GOOD OLD FUN, and lets get that behind our head.....season is coming next week, and we can more then "THIS" thing to worry about......we have plenty of new racers showing up, and we have WALT running NTC3, that is something/someone that we have to worry about if we are going to race 200mm TC and win....
Lets put all the effort on the track, and delete all the hate.....:p
P.S. the burning705 is from Taiwan Racing Forum, and it was spread like forrest fire......to Japan and HK, I just cutted an pasted and hope everyone check their elect.....cause those wires are so close to the tank........besides, that is so clear it is a 705, not PRO, so please don't get offended.

Did not get offended @ all on the pics from taiwan forum. I think its good to share important info. about wiring in the car. That wiring can easily hurt someone because ur car will ran out of control and will hit something or someone. 3PO were literally specified the Serpent @ Oak Park. That is the time I started replying. He was really talking about my car !!!

What's up guys,
Ok for the last time i have made my mind, i will buy the RTR. I respect all of your opinions, and i have learned many things since i have been here. I know a smart decision would be to buy the kit, but at the rate i am saving now, i probably be racing next year with you guys :D and i don’t wont to wait that long i just want to go out there and race. Since there is a lot of guys with RTR on the track, that means i have a chance to race competitively. Also i just want to go out there and have fun, if the nitro racing is as fun as micro car racing, then i sure will have fun.
This Sunday, my friend told me that few guys are going to come to my school and setup a track there and race, so i will go and check that out. Maybe i will get the chance to race my friends off-road truck.
Here is another question, the painting bodies seems like the hardest thing to do, the last thing i want to do is mess-up the locks of the car, so are there car bodies that are already done? Like HPI, if i buy from them do i have to paint it my self?
Thanks for all of your responses, they are really helpful.

If something happened that day @ Oak Park I will be really guilty. I know it was a mistake running a open wire Rc car in the track w/ some puddles of water. I still ran my car because I felt the freedom of long winter brake.
That incident was not fun or to play Joke @ all. I took the incident seriuosly because that is a matter of injury or worst case scenario death. That car is fast enough to go inside ur skin and bones and might cause infection or Septicemia. I never wanted to put anything or anyone in danger. So this topic is serious.
On the other hand, if u have something to say to anyone. WE should be man enough to confront that person and tell him everything that we have something behind our head. It does not have to be email, phone, and especially in this forum. WE should tell him on or off the track. We are not High School Jocks anymore. We are educated people meant to say racers.
Re name: I would never mention Rookie's name again, I will probably mention some of the racers name like Walt. He seems he does not mind. Unless, if Walt does not want to mention his name in this forum.

good decision on the RTR....
in the Novice class at Venture Raceway...a kid i was helping who had an electric TC3 won his first time out. he had been practicing for about a month and won his first novice race.
was good to see him win because it showed the driver makes the biggest difference. he ran a stock TC3, stock settings, ect. the only thing he changed was the tires and used a Monster Stock.
he beat guys running novice who were using M8s, GT7s, expensive chargers, ect.
just spend time and money practicing and you'll see big results with your NTC3. then over time if you come to the point that you feel by getting better equipment will improve your laptimes...then buy it....then sell the RTR parts to help pay for your new stuff

Nermin,
Painting bodies is easy. You will probably want to start out with a one color paint job yourself and it's fairly easy to do. Check out my painting site here. (http://www.rctech.net/articles/painting_hauntedmyst.shtml) It will explain everything you need to know. If you still want to buy a painted body, some of us sell them like myself, but then you are usually looking at $45 and up, with those in the pic going for more. I'll be at Hobby Town Oak Park today if you come by and can tell you every thing you need to know to paint your first car.

DO NOT get the idea that RTR are garbage......yes, for me, it is SLOWER. but still not garbage.....if you race in HTOP, RTR is capable to race against other big boys.....you might not be able to PULL someone on the straight, but at cornering, I don't see any hugh advantage between kit cars and RTR cars - that is ONLY IF YOU KNOW what you are doing (like tunning and setting)....
but that is exactly what you need to learn about nitro racing..
You need foams, that is a must, use the stock motor, the whole car should be good enough to RACE in HTOP...
I thought the RTR NTc3 body are painted already....all you need to put on are those "Powered by Mugen" or "NOS inside" ricer stickers....:D

Finally broke in my T5 along with Jim's T5 this morning.....average 180 degree in engine temperature, and we broken in those engine like 6-8 tanks (I ran more tanks then Jim cause I am rookie). Our engine are screaming on the straight, not to mention, we cannot even LEAN the engine more then 1/2 turn cause our NTC3 were flying on RICH setting.....if we start leaning, we might not be able to stop the car......of course, we were running RUBBER, that doesn't help......but we can lean them up a little and hope to get around 210-220.....
Man, these T5 are monster..........well worth the price.
See you all SAT......I think I can race now afterall, but who want to bet it will be RAINING on SAT...?

I also finished breaking in the MT-12. Ran 3 idle, 10 on a rich setting. Found out that v-rage don't last as long as I thought. I cut a tire on my last tank and flipped the car. No broken parts just a scratched up body. Luckily I wasn't using more then 1/4 throttle due to break in. It only rolled 4 times (end over end). DOH! I'm not sure it the tire melted or just split from the inner part of the rim. But what ever happened it caused the front tire to hook and roll. Just finished standard cleaning procedures.

This saturday is the first race of the year at HTOP.
Practice starts at 10:00 and racing starts at 11:00. You can get there before 10 to set up "shop" and the track will be ready to go at 10.
Registration is $10 a class. If you sign up for the HTOP racing club ($50), registration is $5 a class, you get a free KO personal transponder ($15 value) and 20% off everything in the store. We will be selling elligi foam tires at the track.
If you wish to help set up the track (which means more practice time) get there around 9ish.

R the brand new transpoders available now?
I asked Fred last month and he said they should have it on the first week of the race.
My brother and I would like to purchase it soon so we can decide if we need a transponder mount or not. We did not like having the transpoders on the body. We would like to mount it on the car and should have easy access to change the crystals (Its safer on the car).
Pls. let me know, so we can stop by and purchase them.
Also, if we will run 2 class can we use the same transponders and just change the crystal?
The price of the transponders sounds reasonable if we can buy 2
each would u guys will enough for all of the racers?
Man... I've got to start checking this forum on the weekends...
Nermin: You'll love your RTR NTC3. Don't worry if you couldn't afford the kit right now. We'll all help you along the way... if you stick with the sport, eventually most of what you get with the RTR will be on a shelf, but in the end, if it gets you onto the track sooner, it's worth it. If you had the extra money right now anyway, and would be upgrading the car for week number 2, then it's way better to get the kit to start with. It doesn't sound like that's your situation, and that's OK.
If at all possible, I'd still consider upgrading the steering servo, buying an extra crystal (frequency) to help avoid conflicts at the track, and plan on getting a set of foam tires. You're going to love this sport. Also, quite a while ago you asked about purchasing a starter box. The starter box needs to be set up to fit the car, not the engine, so anyone with a starter box adjusted to fit the NTC3 will start your NTC3 no matter what engine you have in it. I'd recommend finding someone at the track with a starter box to help you out.
On another note, I don't mind people using my 'real' name on this forum... I don't say anything here that I wouldn't want associated to me, and in my opinion, no one should. Maybe if everyone used their real names on these forums we wouldn't get the kind of stuff that happened over the last couple of days, but that stuff is easy enough to skip over.
The new driver's stand for the Chicagoland R/C Raceway is complete (except for a coat of paint). You guys are going to love it... it turned out great. Plenty of room for over 10 guys to stand up there comfortably (22 feet wide), nice wide stair case leading up there, over 6 feet off the ground for a great view of our 185'x100' on road track. I can't wait for the outdoor racing season to start. Just two more 'non-race' weekends to go (unless you race at HTOP of course), and then we'll be racing on-road every Sunday and off road every Saturday. Plus, there is still time to sign up for our Friday night NASCAR-style oval racing series... should be a lot of fun.

Walt, R u going to run races again for 8th scale if there are enough racers?
I just talk to PhIL and Don and they said that Mark and another guy from Tinley Park bought a 950 and new .21 Motors. I really want to focus in this scale this year because of 2 midwest series that I have been wanted to attend and participate to. I know Sundays are work day for me beccause I only work once a week. I cannot call in or go home early. I get off around noon to 1 p.m. I don't care if I cannot race on the first heat but hoping to have enough scores to go to the A main.
@ least there are about 3 or 4 more 8th scale drivers from Tinley Park and sure that will race @ ur track. My brother and I plus Noel are sure that we will run 8th scales. I am hoping to get 3 more guys from Chicago and that would be total of 9 8th scale drivers. I hope they will be regular racers. We will try to be there every other Sundays. I will also let the 8th scale racers from Tinlet when can we race so hoping to bring their 8th scale that day. Off course, HTOP does not run races everySunday also I think they only have 14 races this year. So, after HTOP we will be all @ ur track.
thanks
Anthony
We absolutely want and expect to have a strong 1/8th scale class this year. All we really ask is that at least 3 guys have the same car to run a class for them, and I think we'll get that at least. Also, if you come on out after you get off of work, we can add you in and you'll still get in some good racing, especially if you don't have to leave early, because we plan on running some 'extra' races after the normal racing schedule is over each week for those that can stay a little longer.
We hope to have full classes every week for:
*electric touring (maybe split into stock and mod, but we'll see how it goes)
*nitro touring (touring car bodies only)
*SuperNitro/Impact/Touring cars with Lola-type bodies
*1/8th scale
We'd love to let the 1/5th scale guys run, but until we have our new permanent track built, we can't let them run anymore for safety reasons.
On the Saturdays that HTOP isn't racing, I hope you guys who can only race on Saturdays will consider running off road at our track. This summer will have the best R/C racing that the Chicagoland area has ever seen.

WoWW!!!
This really good news for us. Yeah we do not mind staying after normal schedule as long their is light to guide us there are no problems.
Tinley is the track that we want to focus on because of the roughness track and the toughest drivers are in this track. We will have great practice on ur track and @ least we pull some throttle (hope my gears and clutch would not break so we can keep going).
RE 5th scale: Good thing I did not buy Ray's 5th scale last X mass. Or else that car would be on the shelf for a long time. Anyway, I want to focus on the 8th scales and Impact and Super Nitro class. Its just a honor racing u w/ ur top car. Racing w/ u on the track just give us more thinking on how can we @ least go close to ur lap times. U always gives us something to look forward to every year. Honeslty, U and JIM (hope u don't mind if I said ur name in this Forum. In case udo, I am sorry I said ur name) made us very competitive. U guys made Peter and I what we are now. If we did not raced w/ u we will never learn how to drive an RC car (WE still suck on the track). I just got nothing to say when I hear WALT. My bro and I are just speechless, also guys from TInley talk about u on the winter brake and we have all the same comments. HIs fast, awesome driver, good fella, never talk Crap or any B.S., great person, very helpful, understanding, just smiles after the win. I got nothing else to say just SALUTE (R hand on my head) u and cannot wait to challenge u again this summer. I almost reach my Goal last year when u made ur track smaller and I was just one lap behind w/ impact Super Nitro class. Hoping to go closer again.
thanks for everything

We're installing new lighting for both tracks, so you don't have to worry about that either.
Thanks for the kind words. I feel I'm a better racer now than I've ever been because even though my reflexes are slower and my skills are starting to diminish in my 'old age', I really treat this like a fun hobby now, and have nothing but a good time up there on the driver's stand. Plus, I never get nervous any more (well, I got just a little nervous last year when I was leading the Super Nitro A-main at the HPI Challenge, but just a little). When you've reached the point where you don't get nervous anymore (hands shaking, etc.) and you don't get mad when you loose but just enjoy the racing, that's when this sport gets really fun. At this point, I'd rather loose a good, close, fun race than win by a couple laps, because it's the racing that's fun.

Ur welcome!!!!
Any updates on the permanent on road track. We would like to see pics of the development of the track if its ok. The way it sounds earlier in ur comment its going to be a world class track that we never had in Chicagoland Area. If they are no pics its ok just updates will be great!!
I'll give permanent track updates as they happen. Right now, we're mainly focusing our attention on getting our existing race tracks running for the season. However, we are seriously considering pushing ahead with the new, permanent off road track to have it ready very soon this season. We're afraid that our existing off road track will not be big enough for our Saturday off road crowd. The permanent on road track takes a lot more planning, etc, but we've gone as far as getting our first quotes back from contractors for the construction... it's coming along.

Hold on, pls. clarify.
U mean to say u have a lot of off road drivers on a SAT than On road racers. I do have off road cars and trucks was thinking of racing off road too, but I do like on road better.
We will probably stop by one Saturday and check out the race and if its fun like on road. I will take me Losi and Kyosho monster trucks on the track. If I have fun I might consider to buy a 8th scale buggy too like the Kanai 2 or Mugen X 5.
Pls. tell me which class did u had most in Off road
1/8
1/10
monster trucks
@ least i know if I need to buy a 1/8
It's still sounding like Liesure Hours will not be able to run outdoor-off road this summer due to noise and other problems with their location, so we're hoping to get a lot of that crowd at our track, plus a whole lot of new people as well.
We won't know for sure how many people we'll get for off road (or on road for that matter) until we start holding races, but we wouldn't be a bit surprised if our off road turn out this summer was better than on road. Off road is more popular over all, and we should have some darn nice off road tracks (plural... one smaller track with lights located in the beer garden, and a much bigger track, no lights yet, outside of the beer garden). Also, since the off road tracks are permanent, they will be open for practice all the time (9am-3am daily).
Plan on coming out at least on the HT off weeks and check it out. Racing off road is a blast! I still prefer on road slightly, but running off road on a good track is a ton of fun and a nice change from the on road racing for me once in a while.
As far as what's most popular, probably 1/10th scale nitro stadium trucks, but 1/8th scale is close behind. Both are a lot of fun in my opinion.
Actually, there are a lot of people with monster trucks too, but I'm too much of a 'racer' for those I guess. They are fun to drive around, but I don't really consider them much fun for racing. We will probably get a full class of monster trucks too though, and the people driving them seem to have a great time.

I will probably watch and wait until I stop by in 2 races. I want to see u drive first then get some tips before I hit the track heheheheh!!
I agree monster trucks is just to play around, I will start reading set ups and option parts (not aluminum parts , probably threaded shocks) to make my Losi in a competitive level. My losi i very stock, but I put a picco .12 motor in there. Its decent on speed off road, but I have not race it @ all.
Unfortunately, with a new baby in the family, I won't be able to spend many Saturdays at the off road races if I want to race on road on Sundays. I pretty much have to choose one or the other, and I choose on road since I prefer it slightly over off road, however, I'm sure there will be many weekends where I can't race on Sunday and will race Saturday instead. Tony is planning on running most of the Saturday off road races, or perhaps his relatives Anthony and Lenny, who have been running indoor off road races at Leisure this winter, so they know what they are doing.

How’s everybody doing,
What a beautiful day today, i hope it stays like this for a while :)
This Thursday i will be getting my check, and i will have to spend everything and some more i saved on the NTC3, but i don’t mind i really like the car, and i cant wait until Thursday.
BTW. Yesterday i was at Oak Park track, and i went around and i didn’t fined anybody there, and then i saw that the track wasn’t set up. I was inside the store too, locking at some parts and cars. I tell you its not that close as i thought it was, the map driving directions were mast up, and i ended up in like the worst neighborhood in city, but that’s another story :D Are you guys going to be there this weekend?
I am so excited i cant wait to get my car.

kakolitoy: Unfortunately (at no fault of our own) the transponders have not come in yet. The distributor tells us we will have them by this weekend. The transponders are approximately 1"x1"x.5". They are the same ones as last year. Only difference is you can buy them.
Saturday info: This saturday will be FREE to race. We will hold a long practice day and a few races. Come on out and have a great time and do it for free!!!
Nermin: Sorry for the confusion. We set up the track in the parkinglot directly behind the store on race days. We do not have a permenent track. This saturday starting at 10 the track will be set up and you can come out and get some help getting the car ready and run some laps for FREE!
Good directions to HTOP:
(nermin: take 90 or 94 to 290 West.)
Once one 290, take it to Harlem (exit is on the left!)
Turn North on Harlem (left if coming east, right if coming west)
Take harlem to Lake (first light after going under the train bridge)
Turn right on Lake.
At the second light turn left (the store is on the corner)
We race in the chained off parkinglot on the left, you may park in the alley, the parking garage on the right, or the parkinglot directly north of the parking garage.
Hope most of you can make it!

Using last year as an indicator, we'll get a full heat of electric TC, and then we let those guys 'vote' for weather they want to run mod or stock. Last year, the majority wanted to run 4 minute modified races. If at least 3 guys said they wanted to run stock, we'd let them, but if there are less than 10 guys on any given day running electric, I'd hope they could all decide on one or the other so they can get some more exciting racing... that's what happened last year anyway.
We only ran 4 races at the end of the year (and it was getting pretty darn cold out), but we were getting more and more guys every weekend, and we always had enough guys to run an full electric heat. We expect to get even more guys this year, so it should be some very good racing.

2 things you have to aware of this situation.......first, 6 months of WINTER break is not fun, good thing we figured out there is still MICRO racing in chicago for WINTER.....so if we have the chance to race, we WILL RACE.
Second, if there is a track around and saying it will be RACE FOR FREE.............that is a no brainer....so get there early, cause parking is very very limited.
If you want to see the last year pictures of HTOP, go to chicagorc website and look for HTOP race pictures....you should be able to see the layout of the track.
Anyhow, get your NTC3 RTR, charge up the batteries, and PUMP the gas to the tank.....
Again, whos going to bet it will rain on SAT...? 30% chances....

In case we buy 2 of each and total of 4 transponders is that going to be ok and enough for all the racers and track?
We are thinking of buying 1 for each one for the cars that we will race. @ least we do not have to take the transponder out of the car.

kakolitoy: Sorry for not answering this last time. Yes you may buy as many as you like (one comes free with the HTOP racing membership). We will always have 2 full sets for the track. We will be getting 20 transponders in the first batch. We will have more on the way after this saturday. Sorry i cannot reserve numbers, they are first come first serve.
Nermin: Transponders are little electric divices you put in your car for a race. A wire loop is then placed somethere on the track. Everytime your car goes over the loop a computer records a lap and displays the lap times, total time, and what position you are in.
You are in a very unique position. You have some of the best engine gurus converging on HTOP this saturday. I suggest you bring your car and they will help you break it in and answer any and all questions you have.

That's ok about transponders I understand. if u can tell me when are going to have them I will go to HTOP to pay the membership fee for 2 racers and purchase the transponders. Anyway, it seems like 40% chance of rain on Saturday. I learned my lesson on water and On road cars. I really do not want to repeat the incident again. I wanted to know if we can put a digitalled clip of the endurance race last year in ur site. I already asked Brian a long time ago and he said that he will just put the link. My brother's site is very busy at the moment because of his GiGs for this month and next month.
We registered in the upcoming Endurance race, but we canceled it because of Peter's GIG is in N.Y. and N.J. WE will be out of town. I told Brian I am very sorry we took the spot and we told him to take out our team out of the board.
The clip will be all of the team are racing (most of time it will be our team and I am going to edit that, so its fair for all of the teams). The purpose of this is to attract more racers to JOIN the endurance race and fill up the space we took from Brian's registration forum.
In case u do want it, I will give u a FTP address and u can just download the clip straight from our Servers.

I did not edit this yet, If u want to see the full vidoe (kind of suck because most of the time the camera was on my team) I have it in VCR already. I am just going to wait for Walt so at least it will be on his site. I hope u do not mind, because everytime someone wants to see the race w/o putting it on the site, I have to give them a password to get in to our server. It will be better if Walt can put it on his site so it will be easier for all of the racers that wants to watch a clip of the race. They can just easily download it to Walt site. I brought the tape @ HTOP last year and Mabman got the chance to see about half of the race. I am going to HTOP on Sat. I will bring the tape and ask the HTOP if it is ok to see a clip of the race. I do not want to show the whole race because its always our cars. I would like to show other racers that race that day. That is why I want to edit this video. Some parts has a focus on WALT, JIM Meisch, Rookie, Aeron, Brian (MTX 2), Ray Goff, and yeah you!!! I do not want to show our cars because I know U r just not interested on ur cars or our team, u might get bored in the other team.
The record was great because it was clear and not shaking w/ some great focus on the cars. We always learn all the time. Next time we record something like this the focus will be on the winning driver or a great cutting action from the other cars.
Hope u understand!!!
thanks

Send an e-mail to my brother Gregg, our web master, and see what he has to say about it. I know that he likes to follow general rules of thumb when it comes to sizes of files for download, so he'd probably just want 10 or so short, maybe 30 second long clips, that he can put up there, and no more. Most people don't want to sit around for an hour to download a really long movie.
You can e-mail Gregg directly from our homepage.
By the way, am I supposed to read 'ur' as 'your' or as 'you are' or some other way... I can't seem to be able to figure it out from context (seems to be used both ways, making it very difficult to quickly read your posts).

OK I will email him, I will probably put about 25 sec to 30 clip so racers will be excited and if they want to see more. Racers have catch the action in the upcoming endurance race!!!
The clip will be all of the racers racing and not focusing in our team.
Sorry about the shortcuts, I am used to text messaging and we write shortcuts on the phone. I will try to make it a whole word next time so it will be easier to read.
This might be short to download because we have a fast connection and I hope Gregg does too. Our coneection has a fast upstream and downstream If he does it will probably just takes min. I will start editing tonight and see what is the best for the watchers interests. Hope u guys will like it.

Walt, is CORY one of the fast guy (kid) that you mentioned before.....but the truth is, he is DAMN FAST, actually, not too fast, but like you, very consistance......it was a great main yesterday.
About this SAT.........well, I will host my first underground micro race by myself, host by myself and race by myself (may be with my wife if she is not too busy watching "E")......cause it will be 50% chance of rain, along with 60% chance of thunder storm, thats it.....I don't have to rust to clean my car now, not to mention charge the gel cell for starter box.
If it rain out this SAT, will that be possible the make up race on 26th?

Cory is fast, but he is actually not one of the 'fast' guys I refered to a while back. Those fast guys I was talking about still have not been able to make it back lately. Cory was running really well yesterday though, and I was actually running pretty bad until the main when I replaced my front differential which had been getting really bad and finally completely broke in the 3rd qualifier (causing me to lose TQ to Cory).
In the main when I had the new differential in there, the car was 1000% better, and I felt like Cory wasn't much of a threat anymore (I managed to beat him by 4 laps). Those 'fast' guys I talked about can keep up with me when my car is at it's best, and almost always post better 'fastest lap' time than me (although Cory was able to tie my best lap yesterday, 7.01 seconds, but I turned 2 of the 7.01 laps to his one, and both of mine came in the main, where he had his in the 3rd qualifier). Actually, that main was a pretty darn consistent race for me. My fastest lap was 7.01 seconds, which I managed to do twice, but my AVERAGE lap was 7.55 seconds, and my worst two laps were 9.11 and 8.96... very consistent laps, especially considering all the traffic out there on those tight tracks.
Anyway, great racing yesteday. I wish I didn't have to get up between 3 and 4am to feed the baby and then head to work... I'm tired today. I might have to start leaving after the 3rd qualifier because I just don't get enough sleep, but after a few more weeks we'll be racing outside nitro on Sundays, so I might not go to the Micro races until the outdoor season is over anyway... might be too much R/C for my wife to take.

I can tell you one more thing, as I appreciate the food and try to help out your track and buying food over there, both JIM and I felt very bad after the 2nd qualifier last night (that is not the first time we felt that way) after eating the pizza, chicken finger and fries.........I have nothing against the food there (they are acutally taste good and cheap) but I think along with the SMOKE in that room, we both feel a little uncomfortable....
We can't give up the race there...........but both JIM and I have to figure the way out away from the smoke room.
Now, I cannot imagine those FAST GUY the way they ran....as you said they are NOT WORST but better then you sometimes......
And I hope they sucks on NITRO.....:D
Still spending the last hour figure out where can I get Sirio 15 or what should I do with the engineless SNRS4 (now with a almost dead MT-12)
I think it's the smoke in there... makes me feel sick too. Especially gives me a head ache. I wish we could make that room 'non-smoking' for our races. Maybe we can. When the guys want to smoke they can easily step out of the room (toward the bowling alley or even the bar or outside). Problem is that race director Tony is a smoker, so probably not going to get a lot of support from him, but maybe since he says he wants to stop.
You might have seen me opening the door a lot (since I was sitting next to it)... that was to get fresh air. I especially hate it when the smokers light one up and just let it sit there in the ash tray to fill the room with smoke... then us non-smokers have to breath just as much of that crap as they do. I guess it's a pet-peeve of mine, but not much I can do about it.

I think being chinese, must learn two thing.....DRINK and SMOKE...however, I cannot drink and I don't smoke....thats why I come to USA and try to be WHITE guy.....:D
Well, it concern me when JIM told me last night he almost want to tell TONY he cannot make it to the main because he felt so bad...and on the way home, he is not feeling good at all, I almost need to drive instead.......but I think open the window up and let fresh air come in made him feel better afterall.
I don't like the smoke, and I tried to stay away from Tony's table ...but we are talking about a "HUGH" dinning room including the track, that is not much I can do.
Just like Office, ppl can smoke OUTSIDE the office like the walkway, corridor or smoke loungh......however, I don't think that will work in Bowling alley....since there are no NON-SMOKING area for the entire building.
Lets race OUTDOOR next week at the parking lot, set the track up exactly the same for 1/10 TC or 1/8th scale with a 200 feet straight and sweeper..........without LIGHTS.:D

Hey guys,
Just came back from school and what a day. I know nobody will believe me this but that’s ok, i wouldn’t either. Today after all of my classes finished, i meet with my friend we talked for a while and we decided to go to Stants hobby shop to check out the cars, and i wonted to show the NTC3. So when we get there, we start locking around everything is just going fine, suddenly i turn around and i see a guy that lock just like DMX, i mean if it's not him it must be his twin brother or something. I cant believe it the guy locks just like him, so i am locking at him, and i don’t wont to lock like an idiot so i am pretending like i am talking to my friend, and my friend is doing the same thing, and suddenly i hear they guy talk, and as soon as i hear him talk i know it was him, i just couldn’t believe it. And i just realized, that he unintentionally hit me with the big box he was caring, when he came in. He came to the store with the 1/5 scale porsh, he was caring it in the box on his shoulders and didn’t see me, i didn’t notice him right the way because i couldn’t see his face because of the big box. But later when i got home, i remembered what happened.
I was surprised how small he locks in real life, he locks much bigger in moves and music videos. But anyways i was surprised to see DMX in a Hobby shop with a rc car, he had few of his buddies or bodyguards with him too. What a day.

He's seen around a lot in the Chicago area. Supposedly he also frequents Al's and has come out to do r/c drag racing on torrence. There have actually already been quite a few posts just like yours.. so it's not all that uncommon. I'd assume spends a lot of time around here with the numerous "sightings".

Yeah, DMX is supose to be a nitro nut. He shows up at 159th and torrence several times on saturdays during the summer. What I heard was he records somewhere in chicago. I guess he tries to lay low out there, but you probably stand out when you show up in 2 cars filled with cars and have a posse. He's supose to be a really nice guy though, gave away a Top .21 engine last summer to someone.

Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if any of you guys remember me, name's Bill I used to work, and race at HTOP. Seeing that racing season is upon us again, I thought I should take a look at the boards and see what was up.
Wow, we Chicago racers have been busy it seems. Walt, I know that I'm a bit late on this but heh, CONGRATS on getting your track together. I'm definately going to have to get down there sometime soon.
I've never been out to venture, but I've heard good things about it, and the rest of the tracks around here in chicago. I suppose I'll just have to visit them all:) .
Ok, I still have pretty close ties to a bunch of the guys at HTOP, and I stop in there pretty frequently. As of last night they are still racing. Same deal as last summer (I think) practice will probably start around 10:00am, and they are having FREE racing most of the afternoon. Now I'm not going to say anything about water falling from the sky, but I'm hoping for the best. I assume that if its raining (moderate, to hard) in the morning, there will be no racing. If anyone has a doubt they can try to call the store. Phone number 708-445-8056 However if we are racing, we'll probably just be setting up the track, and away from the phone.
Hope this helps you guys. I know that I've been really looking forward to the start of the season, and I wish everyone a great year, with TQs and 1st place finishes galore!!:p

Hey, thats me in first video! First time I have ever caught howard.. I don't think I would have had such luck if he were driving the NTC3, but I am happy someone got it on tape anyway! wrxdan,
Hey those are great movies! It was good to get back on the track after such a long time away, and I'm pretty sure that everyone would agree with me.
For those who missed out,
The track was set up, and the rain held off, so we all got to play. It was a fun time, even if there were no organized races. Also, hey whos going to argue with a free track to race on? Chris (the race director) passed out a packet of information reguarding racing at HTOP. If you stop by the store I'm sure that they have extras, or you can just get one at the next race. Oh yeah, the next race is Saturday, May 3rd, for those who don't know.
What does everyone think about the HobbyTown RC Club? Again for those who did not get the packet, quoted directly....
For $50.00 you can join the HobbyTown RC Club. This membership includes a $5.00 entry fee for racing, 10% off ANY merchandise store wide, and a transponder.
If you planned to attend every race, and races one car, the total amount spent for one season with the membership would be $120. Without the membership racers pay $10.00 per car, and rent a transponder for $5.00 For one season of racing the non-member spends $210.00. See a HobbyTown employee for membership.
So what does everyone think about the cost?
Personally I think this is a little high. I know that the store has to pay for the transponder system, and the initall start up cost of the track, as well as paying the racing directors (Chris, and Mike). But the program has been in effect for what 3 years now? I'm sure that the store has made at least some of the start up cost back, as well as added revenue in parts, and intrest (read as selling more cars).
Now before I get flammed or the store starts getting flamed, let me state a few things. I am a novice racer, I can't drive like Howard, I've only really been into RC for about a year. Also I've never raced anywere else, so I have nothing to conpair HTOP to. I also realize that there is a lot of work that goes into getting these races together. I have helped HTOP set up the track, and transponder sys in the past. We usally get there around 8:00 - 8:30. I also know it can be a challange to deal with all of the racers, trying to make everyone happy.
I was just wondering what you other racers thought of the program.
Kraze
P.S. Sorry this is such a long post

Howdy...I'm new to this forum. Me and my two sons are racing electric (T2's and T3's) at:
http://www.leisurehoursraceway.com
It's in Joliet
I found your forum here recently and thought I'd jump in.
Here's some questions if you will:
1. Is this forum mostly on-road racers?
2. Are many of you members on chicagorc.com and it's club?
3. If this is a mostly on-road forum, is there a Chicagoland-based off-road track/racing forum?
Thanks for any replies.
1. It seems like most of us race on-road predominantly, but there are many off road guys here too, and many guys that run both on road and off road.
2. I'd say that most of us are current members of the Chicago RC club. The club membership is cheap, and it basically allows Brian (president of the club) to buy some cool stuff for us all to use (like a radar gun) and allows him to sponsor some fun races for us to participate in.
3. I don't know of any forum dedicated to off road racing only in the Chicagoland area, but this forum will do fine. Just seems like we don't get many Leisure Hours racers here... don't know why. We do get lots of guys who race at the Chicagoland R/C Raceway in Tinley Park (www.chicagolandrc.com), and we'll have a brand new outdoor off road track running this summer (I happen to be the race director for the Chicagoland R/C Raceway). I hope you and your sons can make it out to our track this summer. We'll be racing off road on Saturdays, starting May 17th.
Our date with the Mayor and Village Board members of Tinley Park is this week. We have no reason to believe that they won't allow our new permanent tracks to be built. The mayor is a neighbor and friend of my business partner on this project, and the Bettenhausens are on the board in Tinley Park, and we all know that they are a big 'racing' family, so they should be in favor of our R/C racing facility. The funding for the track is also secured. I'll own a large stake in the track, so you can be assured that it will be done right by someone who actually races R/C!
We need to finalize the design of the facility soon, so I'll let everyone know when we have our initial site plan available for viewing on our web site for comments. Obviously, we can't make everyone happy, but we're hoping to get feedback from the local racers to make sure we're not forgetting/overlooking anything important.
We're also seeking feedback from ROAR officials to make sure our track will be well considered for hosting regionals/nationals/worlds events as soon as next summer.
We hope to start construction within a month and have the entire facility complete a month after we begin, but you never know with construction. In the mean time, our racing schedule will not be affected by the ongoing construction. We'll be racing on-road in the existing parking lot like as we did last year, and we'll have improved lighting out there for night races (Friday night specifically for our RCNASCAR oval series). Off road races should be on the new off road track to start the season since we're starting construction of the off road track first. If that track is not available for the start of the season, our smaller off road track is available, with lights, in the beer garden.
I'll try to keep everyone up to date as we progress, as I promised.

Walt...thanks for the reply and the specific info. I will review the RC club some more and look into joining.
There are some guys talking about Tinley Park these days at Leisure races.
On Friday night electric off-road race night at Leisure there's a good crowd. There's almost always:
rookie class, stock truck, stock buggy, mod buggy, mod truck...all the different classes almost always have an A and a B...about 30-40 racers show up on Friday PM's.
I'll mention this forum to the guys I know from Leisure Hours Raceway, and maybe they will poke their heads in. Many of them lurk and post in the Trinity user forums. www.teamtrinity.com, usually in the Leisure Hours thread.

That works out great... we've got onroad oval racing on Friday nights, so run at Leisure on Friday nights, and then come on out to our track on Saturdays. Since we do have lights on our off road track, we can hold night races as well, and we're currently trying to decide what nights to host races.
Our tracks will also be open very often for practice (daily once we get going), so if you want to get in some practice when Leisure is not open, we've got the track for you.
Hope to see you at the track.

I want to get done w/ this order sheet and wire the cash soon.
thankumuch
BTW: CRC tires are cheaper here in the U.S. because its local made.
When you get a chance, take a look at our proposed site plan for the 2 acre site behind the Tinley Park Bowl for our new RC tracks.
http://www.chicagolandrc.com/media/siteplan.pdf
I'm looking for comments, but keep in mind that we can't make everyone happy, and the final design has to be a compromise.
Also keep in mind that the general layout of the facility is intended to make viewing possible from the beer garden of the Tinley Park Bowl. If it were not for the possibility of getting spectators in the beer garden to watch races, we would not be able to work this deal with the owner of the bowling alley, so both tracks have to be close to the beer garden, which leads to the tri-oval design of the permanent on-road track.
Things you might not be able to tell from the site plan:
All areas that are not permanent on road track or the off road track will be grass. So, when you accidentally run off of the on road track, you won't hit a board, but just go into the grass (if you go far enough off track, you'll eventually hit a board or a chain link fence to protect spectators and prevent head-on collisions).
The on-road track allows for 28 different track designs (including the oval track) by blocking off different sections of the track. So we won't be repeating many layouts in any given season, if any(we figure 20 to 26 racing weeks per season due to weather limitations).
The on-road track will be banked in the turns, especially the large, outer oval track.
The outer oval of the on road track is 20 feet wide, and all the inner road course sections are at least 15 feet wide.
The area is surrounded by a 6 foot tall wood fence, and much of that fence will be lined with work benches equipped with electrical outlets. The area in the south-east section will be an open grassy area for people that want to bring their own table and canopy for pitting.
Both tracks will be well lit.
There will be automatic irrigation for all the grass, and several hoses available around the off road track for wetting it down between races.
The picnic area in the beer garden (which is where our current off road track is located) will be available for pitting for those that would like to have a beer between heats.
Let me know what you guys think.

It looks great. Hope my input make sense. I know the structure of the race is going to be close to the open field and our race pits are close to the grass. My point is safety for the viewers and racers. It looks like our pits is a Mosquito teritory. This might sounds stupid for others but West Nile Virus are still going on. Cases of West Nile are still in progress including IL. Is there any way we can make that asphalt or any spray the day before the race day.
Safety is always my main concern.

Even if we pave our entire area, we can't pave the world, so there will always be mosquito concerns. However, Tinley Park does spray for mosquitos in general, and the owner of the bowling alley already sprays his property (you can't really have a successful beer garden if you've got a mosquito problem), so we should be ok.

Kaffieen_Kraze:
i do agree that the cost is somewhat of an issue...
$10 per race is pretty much a standard almost anywhere you go.
$5 to rent a transponder seems a bit high.
For those of us who do not intend to do a whole series at HTOP the membership is not really an option. I guess the only issue I have is the extra $5 to rent a transponder. Most tracks just charge the race entry fee.
$15 for a race entering 1 class is not bad....but most other tracks run $10 per entry...no transponder fee.
Hopefully I'll make it out to the 2nd race weekend at HTOP to checkout the scene.
Were there 2 Thai guys there on Sat...Kitt and Rutt running a V One S, TC3, or Tamiya EVO III's?? just wondering...they are Venture Superstock A Main regulars.

Nexus,
That was basically what I was thinking...the cost per race is not bad, but extra to rent transponders? Oh well, I'm not really arguing the price, it should go to help out the track anyway. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the next race, but I should definately be at the others.
Just to make it clear to everyone, I'm not knocking the program at hobbytown, I was just curious about pricing at other tracks.

Hey bill!!! (thought you disappeared from this earth, email me when you get a chance)
It seems that the whole transponder system has got a few people confused, let me try to clarify.
We will be SELLING the transponders for $15 (our cost) throughout the season. If you join the club, you get one FREE transponder.
Here is the rental policy:
If you do NOT want to buy one, the first race you come to (saturday didnt count) you may rent a transponder at no charge. On your second race there will be a $5 rental fee. We are doing this to encourage regulars to buy the transponders.
We are selling/renting the transponders because last year too many people mistreated them. To me the convenience of owning a transponder greatly outweighs the $15. You never need to install/uninstall it before and after each race. No one else will ever be using it, so it is always in great condition.
Walt: the track looks great!
Few ideas: a 2' deep pit table is kinda limited (need to spread out or get shelves).
Stock electric racing seems doomed with those straights (not much you can do) how open are people for a Brushless/modified class?
Again, it looks great, and should be lighting fast!

not sure about the brushless/mod class.
i doubt most people will want to spend the $$ for the brushless system.
mod...maybe...but i would limit the motor if you did run the class. maybe a 19T ARCOR only like Venture is doing. overall most electric guys own stock motors and moving up to a mod isn't necessarily the best thing.....from a cost and driving standpoint.

That 2' number is a misprint (actually, a carry over that we forgot to remove). Our new plan is to make the work benches at least 3' deep. Good work catching that.
Regarding electrics on the track, there are a few options. The electric guys can run modified at our track if they want to, or we can run the stock electric guys always on the smaller versions of our track. Of the 28 possible track layouts, some hardly use any straightaway at all (get onto the back straight in that first lane down, and then get off the back straight in that next lane off, and you've got yourself a 50-60 foot back straight). However, I have a feeling that when the stock guys see the track, they'll want to run the full track like everyone else. Even if the cars seem to be moving slowly on a track this large, it's still the guy that runs the smoothest lines and cleanest race that wins.
Oh, and one more option: the electric guys can put their electric cars on the shelf for the summer and get a nitro car. You've still got half the year to run electric indoors :D Just kidding... we welcome the electric guys. And if you think the electric stock cars are going to look slow out there, imagine the micro RS4s...

Personally, I disagree with going with an ARCOR 19t motor. The current crop of 19T spec motors are more then adequet with out the expense or difficultly of finding the arcors. We are considering switching the electric TC class at Hobby Town to an all Orion Elements class for the second half of the season and we should be able to pick them up in bulk for about $25 per person. It's my understanding that the arcors are double that.

walt: from an electric TC racers point of view i wouldn't care how long the straight was for my TC3 using a stock motor....the bigger the track the better :D
Haunted: i with using the 19T Element....although the price difference between the ARCOR 19T aren't really different.
Tower sells Orion Elements for 39.95 and Trinity Arcornites for the same price....i also saw Venture had them for 31.00.
I guess the only thing would be if people wanted to run mod motor based 19Ts with adjustable timing and better brushes(arcor style) or the fixed timing stock motor based 19T (element style).
For me whatever is cheapest wins and if you can get Element 19Ts for $25 that would be an excellent deal. Plus then you won't have to worry about changing brushes often, comm cuts, and adjusting timing.

Running a 19T class would be nice because most outdoor tracks are pretty long. My recommendation (if you run a 19T class) is that you limit the motors to ones like the Element/Dynasty. The are pretty much the same cost as a Pro or Dyno'd stock motor, have less maintenence then an ARCOR 19T, but still have more speed then a 27T stocker.

I really dont have any complaints about running stock on a huge track, i think running mod/brushless would be a blast if enough people want to get into it.
I 19T class would be awesome though. What we are thinking of doing at HTOP is buying the motors in bulk and selling them just above dealer cost (about $25 in this case). Walt, if you wish to do something similar maybe we can work something out so we can sell the motors at the track. The idea is to keep the cost way down while getting more speed than a stocker.
Walt: I guess i just have good eyes. lol

I whole heartedly agree with the Peak Dynasty/Orion Elements. To me they are the best mix of stock & mod. Faster then stock and wont wear out like a hot mod, they have bearings but with fixed timing and tagged arms so we can check em. The only tuning is with springs and brushes. That way we can keep the costs down and keep it competative at the same time.

TC3PO,
I did not find any ingniors, and I think I was the very last person at/on the track. However I do have one of the ofna ignitors that uses a "D" size battery, that you can use if you want. I should warn you that it does not get as hot as other ignitors but it still kinda works. I also have an old ignitor from Great Planes with a meter on top, I'm not sure what is wrong with it though, I think its not making a full circut (something is shorted) but you can have that as well, if you want. You might be able to fix it, perhaps resoder (sorry I can't spell) the connections. It does have the re-chargeable batt. and charger. Let me know if you want them. I won't be at the next race, but I can drop them off at the store for ya :) Always try to help out fellow racers :)

The last time I raced off-road with Howard I found it easier to run over his puny little truck versus going around him. Off-road is a blast, and the clean-up is easy with an air compressor and dry paint brush. I know Howard likes his car cleaner than when it was new, he thinks that makes it faster. I have a Mugen MBX-4RR 8th scale buggy, more fun than any other R/C vehicle I have owned to date by far. I need to get rid of my T-Maxx for a .21 powered Monster Truck? Walt/Howard.. what foam tires are out there for the Super that you know about besides Powerline and the ones on rc4less.com? I had some powerline foams and started playing with the super tonight (just tuning the engine) and at around 1.5 tanks on this car I broke the rear rim off where it connects to the car. Didn't hit anything, was just laying into it pretty hard and all of a sudden the rear wheel starts rolling one way and the car is going the other. I figured I lost a wheel nut, but the nut was still on the car, and the hex section of rim as well! I certainly don't want to buy more powerline tires, so I'd just like to know what other options you've found before I try the rc4less brand.
Mike: The RC4Less (BSR) foams are the only ones I've used on my super, so I guess I'm not going to be much help. However, I have had really good luck with those. RC4Less mounts them on HPI wheels, which are pretty darn strong. They are also selling some foams for the Super mounted on Cross rims, which are wider in the rear. I just bought some of those to try out.
With the exception of the Cross mounted ones I just purchased, I purchase my foams from RC4Less unmounted and then mount them myself on HPI rims. It's not that difficult to do and saves a few bucks. Last year I had a lot of success running their Purple (45 durometer) foam all around. I had plenty of traction. For this year I purchased some more of the purple foams, but also one set of their new Red (55 durometer) foams. I'm hoping I'll still have enough traction with the reds, but get some extra life out of them. They might be just too hard though.
I always try really hard to run the same tires all the way around so that I can rotate the tires between each round and get them to wear evenly and therefore last as long as possible. The Super seems to run well like this. I hope the NTC3 is the same (but I doubt it... seems like most people have to run softer tires in the back on their NTC3's... too bad).
Another guy showed up to the race on Wednesday that will be running all season in the Super Nitro class... we should have plenty of those cars to run their own class all season long.
If any of you don't have anything to do this weekend, we could use some help getting the Chicagoland R/C Raceway ready for this season. On Saturday, we'll be out at the bowling alley painting our new driver's stand. On Sunday, we'll be building the new off road track out back. We can use help either day. So, anyone who is planning on just sitting around staring at their nitro cars on a shelf, come on out and give us a hand. We'd really appreciate it.
If you come out to paint, bring along a brush or roller if you've got one (and some 'painting clothes'). If you come out on Sunday, bring a shovel, rake, or other off road track building stuff if you've got it.
You can e-mail me if you have any specific questions: walt@chicagolandrc.com
Thanks.

HTOP schedule:
Practice starts at 10, registration ends and drivers meeting at 11. Racing starts directly after the drivers meeting.
We will be running 3 heats and a main. Registration is $10, $5 if you sign up for the HTOP racing club. We will have all the info on the club this saturday. We will also have transponders for sale for $18.
Again the rental policy is as follows. Your first time at the track it is free (this saturday will be everyones "first day"). Every time after the first there will be a $5 rental fee. You are able to purchase a brand new transponder at any time for $18.
Here is a pic of this weekend's layout. We will have each weeks layout posted on our chicago RC page, so you know what to expect.
This will be our first weekend for the outdoor, onroad season. Track opens at 9am (sooner if we have help setting up). We'll end practice just before 11am, hold a quick driver's meeting, and begin shortly after 11am.
We'll run 3 qualifiers and a main. The qualifiers (for nitro classes) will be 5 minutes long, with 10 minute mains for all heats except A, which will run for 15 minutes... we're trying to become more like the 'real' RC tracks when it comes to lengths of mains, plus, we want to give people their money's worth. The computer announces race time left so driver's can easily judge their pit stops.
As far as electric goes, we'll ask the electric guys if they want to run stock or mod or both, and do whatever they want. Last year we were getting about 8-10 guys with electric TC's, and they wanted to run mod, 4 minutes, but we hope to get a lot more this year.
Cost is $10 for your first class, $5 for each additional class. Everyone is entitled to use one of our 'club' AMBrc rechargeable transponders, but we hope that all the serious racers will eventually purchase their own AMBrc personal transponder so that they won't have to mess around with the club transponders. If you are using a club transponder, it's a good idea to figure out who (if anyone) is using it in the race right before you so you can get it from him quickly once his race is over.
We are going to let the computer system (Alycat) run the race schedule, as we did last year. There will be exactly 5 minutes between the end of one race and the start of the next race, no exceptions. That's the only way we can get in 3 quals and the main. The computer will wait for no one. For those that did not race with us last year, the computer does a countdown to the start of every race, so you know exactly when to get out on the track to get whatever amount of warm-up laps in that you want. We'll run IFMAR starts for qualifying, so it doesn't even matter where you are on the track when the qualifiers start because your clock will start when you cross the line for the first time.
I type to much, don't I?
Anyway, I hope we have good weather all weekend, and I hope all of you can make it out to both of our tracks for some excellent racing.

Howard: I've pretty much concluded that in order to be allowed to race on Sundays, I have to give in on a bunch of other stuff during the week. Just ask her "what do I have to do to be able to race on Sunday?" and suggest stuff like: go out to dinner on Friday night, and maybe a movie, or spend the entire day together on Saturday. Just ask her what it would take and then negotiate from whatever she says.
Kakolitoy: I'm biased, so I'd say just come to Tinley, but if I wanted to be un-biased, I'd say to decide based on the weather. Hey, what do you know... it's supposed to be nicer on SUNDAY! :D

Walt, thanks for the offer..........however, those are NOT the option, those are my standard PROGRAM that I have to do for her every single week.....as a newly wedd, I suppose to surprise her every single weekend....program such as shopping TIFFANY store with her every week, then swing by COACH and Louis Vutton next, or may be Burburry for a quick stop........then DINNER in downtown, and MOVIE immediately after...that is typical SUNDAY program for me....since she need to work SAT, so she MIGHT let me play on SAT untill 4:00pm........
I am propose to do the landscape, vacuuming the floor, clean the dishes, wash the cloths for the next coming 2 weeks, and hope she will BUY it...
My wife is very reasonable, I just have to pay a HIGH PRICE for it....you know that TIFFANY catalogue/website DOES really scare me a lot.....:(

Ok, not to gloat or anything but I just had to add my 2 cents here...
So while everyone is trying to appease their wives, or girlfriends, I think I'll just have to sit back and smile. You see last summer when my GF was here I bought her a RS4SS, now she does not give me any grief about going to the races, in fact last summer she was the one waking me up to make sure we were there on time:D It all started cause she was pestering me about the airbrush, and how I paint bodies. So I bought her a couple of bodies and BAM next thing you know we are going to the track together, and going out to practice together. Hopefully we can continue to have fun with R/C and not have any problems. I guess only time will tell. Just thought you all might like to hear my little story.

I've never been to either track and have a few questions...
1. Is there a parts counter/hobby store open at either of these tracks during raceday?
2. Do you have to bring your own pit table?
3. Do I need to bring a long extension cord....i run electrics.
Which track generally attracts more electric TC racers?
Weather so far:
Saturday -
60
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
44 Increasingly sunny, brisk cool NE winds at gradually decreasing velocities. Highs: Mid 60s well inland, 50s by lakeshore.
Sunday -

48 Increasing clouds. Temperatures vary widely from north lakeshore to south and west suburbs. Showers/t-storms possible at night.

Walt: Cool timing on the racing info, makes it really easy to make comparisions.
For those that are interested we will be running a novice and an expert Nitro TC classes. We hope this will make the fast guys faster and give the slower guys something to study and work towards.
Kaffieen: You are a lucky one. My gf absolutely refuses to even think about maybe picking up the radio, let along actually coming to the track with me. Believe me, if she would race if i bought here a car, she would be driving a better car than me. :p

1. Is there a parts counter/hobby store open at either of these tracks during raceday?
We have a full hobby shop 30 seconds away from the track.
2. Do you have to bring your own pit table?
Yes you should bring your own pit table and a chair. If you forget a chair we have the hard metal foldable ones.
3. Do I need to bring a long extension cord....i run electrics.
Yes bring an extension cord. We have a power panel that we hook up, anyone is then able to power off if it. We have never not had enough outlets.
Which track generally attracts more electric TC racers?
Honestly, last year i think walt had more electric guys, but this year we will have a strong class.

I'm not sure that Rookie intended it this way, but doesn't that sound like something Joe Walsh would say (sing)? Whether he intended it to be funny or not, I like that quote, and I plan on using it myself.
Let's see, there were some questions posted over night....
Just Nitro: I don't want to speak for Tony G. too much here, but I know he's getting a tire truer and plans on bringing it to all the races to true tires (for a small fee most likely).
Nexus:
1. Our track does not have a hobby shop (yet). We do have some local shops and individuals planning on bringing parts to the track to sell, but we haven't worked out all the details yet. Plan on bringing everything you need to race, and if you break something, someone usually has a spare part to loan. We set up our track very wide usually, so you're less likely to hit anything and break in the first place.
2. We recommend that you bring your own table, chair and tent/canopy (to keep the sun off your head), however, we do have dozens of nice plastic folding tables and hundreds of those common metal folding chairs available to those that don't have their own. However, all the tables and chairs are in the bowling alley, and the doors to the bowling alley don't open until 10am while practice on the track starts at 9am, so you'd might go an hour without a table if you didn't have your own.
3. I'd recommend that you bring an extension cord, but it doesn't have to be long. The electric guys usually pit along the back straightaway at our track, where there is a convenient outlet (this is also where we set up our scoring system). A 25 foot extension cord is more than enough, and if you have any sort of outlet strip that could come in handy too.
4. We were getting a good full heat of electric TC's last year, and although 'past performance is no indication of future results', we're hoping to only do better this year.
Since the two tracks race on different days, why don't you charge those batteries Saturday night and run on both tracks to see which one you like better? They are quite different and certainly one or both of them will appeal to you.

Damn Rookie, sounds like somthing right out of a Big Tymers song.. Listing off all the expensive, name brand stuff they like. You've got to peel your old lady off that RAP MUSIC and get her listening to country or somthing.. then all she'll want is a pick-up truck and a old dog. :) Let her keep going like this and we'll have to start calling you the Bird Man.
We need to introduce all our wives and girlfriends to each other and maybe they can become friends and think of something to do on Sundays while we race. Maybe they can all be on a bowling team and join a Sunday league... that way they can be bowling inside while we race outside. I know my wife likes to bowl...

WoW!!!
I thought my girlfreind is rough. Lots of stories about wife and girlfreind problems. I thought I was the only one, I did not know I am a lucky one. My girlfreind bought me rc stuff for xmass and Bday. Last xmass she bought me a .21 EVO5 M.S. for the Veteq she gave me. Now I know why CHIP (Al's) asked her if she have a sister. She is happy when she see me and my younger brother having fun racing. However, there were some rules. # 1 Victoria secret shops and website needs to be check, and I need to go inside the shop ( I am not sure if everyone feels this way, I do not like looking @ female underwear and nighties in public). She likes dancing in the club such as the Dragon room and Circus and I have to be w/ her and her freinds. I ended clubbing when I started this hobby. In the Gym, I have to walk w/ her on the tracks and talk, I do not walk I run and I do not talk in the gym. I get done w/ my business for an hour in the weight room then get the hell out of there and shower @ home.
thanks everyone for sharing.

Rookie,
That would be great if you could take care of these foams for me. Obviously I don't have time to get another set in, and noone sells super foams locally.
Walt,
I had talked to Tony about a tire truer, but I don't think he's going to have one out there by sunday. I could be wrong though.
......................................
I think I might go out and buy another set of rubber tires just in case.
I'm trying to get this car ready for sunday, but it's gonna be close. I've get setup stations and tweak boards on order, but they won't be in until friday. So I don't have much time to experiment. Packed the rear diff last night, put the GT-1 body & shock mounts on, 2 new belts, and today I'm working on the body (what a pain). Anybody wanna bet I end up with a nice shiny DNF? :)

did u buy the car?
Just a quick thought. Get a 8th scale instead. Do not get a Picco, its too hard for parts availabilty. Mugen, Slide, Serpent would be great. If you are a hardcore HPI fan proceed would be ok. I just think proceed is too expensive for its kit.

I did not buy that car. I wanted it originally only for one reason... to race this HUGE TRUSH talker named Ricky that drag races out on Torrence. He runs a RS4 with a hot .21 and is one of, or THE fastest car out there. I figured with the Impact and a good motor, I should have enough to spank him and finally silence his constant trush talking.
As I thought more about it, I though... DAMN this is going to EXPENSIVE... Then I was thinking, well if I spend a bunch of money on this car I am going to want to do more with it then just drag race. (thinking to self - road racing with 2wd will probably suck) I figured I'd wait and look around for a 4 wheel drive version car so I could drag and road race it if I felt the need.

Honestly, it sounds like an 8th scale will do the job. You can buy it on ebay or order. You can buy a Mugen MRX 3 (not the Osaka) for $450 to $470 NIB (cheap but reliable). In my experience, most 8th scales are set from the box. You do not need anything else to modify. The whole kit from the box is competitive enough to race any tracks. 8th scales is more easier to maintain than 1/10 200 or 235. I usually brake the front bumber ($8) or the tires. The tires are big enough to protect the car. We used to go to AJ on Fridays just to practice. Most of the times, my 8th scale barely brake a part.
RE .21: .21 are easier to tune and have more life than .12 or .15. you can rebuild the .21 @ least 3 to 4 times and still get about the same performance as long as you buy the top end .21 motors. .12 motors tend to lose its performance after the first rebuilt.
BTW: 8th scales do not need modification (Unless if u want to). Compared to some people that have a HPI RS4 and modify it w/ aluminum and spend another $300 just to get more performance in the car. Still cannot get more performance even if they have tons of Aluminum parts in the car. $300 modifications PLUS $200 for the kit. That is enough to buy a 8th scale and get a great performance car.
I am not biased I still have my HPI RS4.

Realistically, this is like 1300-1400 dollars for me to put together an 1/8th scale without an extra tires or parts. I'd sure like to have one, but that intial cost is just a lot of money. It's a lot different then dealing with 10th scales like a NTC3 where the car is under 300 and a hot motor is $200. in 1/8th the prices basically double what they are for 1/10... Not sure that I can really afford to fork out that kind of money.
I guess once tinley gets a dedicated circuit, the 1/8th will be the scale to have.. BTW... you mention the Mugen, but what about the 950? I thought you guys were really big into serpent stuff? Both are expensive, and parts are rare either way... handling? durability? ease of maintenance?
One more thing.. I know a guy thats got a Vector V-spec.. probably an old version, but not ancient.. it has a 2 speed and looks fairly modern designed. It's got a half assed Rex .21 and runs okay, but is still kinda shabby (he's not a racer, just plays around). I don't know much of anything about the 1/8th scales, but do you know anything of that model? Could it still be a competetive car if it were tuned correctly and had good tires?

OK I will start w/your First paragraph.
I know I did not spend $1200 for an 8th scale. That is w/ everything Motor, kit, servo, pipe etc. In my opinoin, expenses in 1/10 200 is about the same in 8th scale. Talk about durability. 8th scale can take the torture from the driver. 8th scale does not brake parts easily compare to 200 mm cars. Like what I said tires are wide enough to protect the car. I understand $200 u can get a top end motor for 200 mm. You have to realize how many gallons of fuel can you consume to change the .12 P/S w/ 75 cc of fuel (I would say 7 to 10 gallons of fuel). .21 motors I would say about 2 to 3 more gallons (8 to 12 and still get performance)plus it takes 125 cc a tank more running times. Also, .12 after rebuilt is not that good anymore I rather buy a new motor while .21 can take up to 3 to 4 rebuilts and still have great performance. Those examples were based on my experience, it might be different to others. There are some great motors that is cheap, reliable, and fast such as the Sirio $300, CMB $300, and Collari Innotech $300.
I mentioned Mugen because its cheaper and have the same performance as the 950. Its almost the same car, but the 950 have more suspension adjustments. I bought a MRX 3 and sold it after 3 tanks of running it. I bought it because of my curiosity about the car. It is a great car. I kept my Serpents becauase of interchangable parts and has better support in the U.S. Mugen USA does sucks w/ parts and costumer support. Its just great if there are variety of cars on the track. Then, competition comes in place and we become better drivers.

This is a pic of my Vector V series. This is the same w/ your freind's car. I race this car last year a lot times than my Veteq. I like the Veteq better because it has a greater performance in the track than my Vector.
I only raced my Veteq once last year that was the day when Walt made the track smaller. I almost modify this to a 950, but its not woth it. Its not much differnce in a 950, arms and rear parts are the same.
BTW: I sold one of this car to DON (tinley) for $300 w/ a .21 sx mega (used), pipe and manifold, and a brand new futaba 9402 in package. Parts of this car is still availble and about the same w/ the 950.
I sold PHIL (tinley) my 3rd Veteq w/ a .21 RB C4 Rody Modified (used but still have a lot of compression) for $600.
You already have a radio, u just need to find a good car in ebay or order NIB and those motors I mentioned earlier and you are good to go. That is not even $1000.

We're working on it, but basically when I say 'we' I mean 'me'... if you think it's expensive to have all the spare parts you need for your car, imagine my decision to buy all the spare parts for all the cars (to stock up my inventory) to have them available at the track. I'm looking at a pretty large investment to start up a hobby shop, but I'm considering it. It probably won't be until after we get our new permanent tracks up and running, because all my investment money will be wrapped up in those tracks.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry about a lack of spare parts too much. If you break something that you don't have, there's a good chance that someone at the track will have the part and will sell the part to you or loan it to you. I don't think I've ever seen anyone go home because they broke a part and couldn't find someone with a spare.
Plus, remember that we set up a huge track, and our walls are somewhat 'soft', so you're much less likely to break anything in the first place.
We're sorry that you won't make it out to our track this weekend, but next weekend HTOP doesn't run, so we hope to see you then.

Overall it was pretty fun. It's a little more laid back there compared to Venture.
3 classes were run...electric TC stock, 1/10 Nitro, Super Nitro.
Other then some small computer problems everything went pretty smooth. The track is a decent size...not sure if the Nitros got to really take advantage of 2gears.

It was nice to meet you too! All in all, it was a good day of racing! Nice job to Chris and Mab. I think we've figure out a quicker way to deal with the transponders, so next time it should run smoother. If so, I'd like to see us keep three qualifiers and a main when we can. I'd also like to see a 10 minute main for the nitros when we can (provided we can work out the refueling support) I think the cold kept some people away but it was nice to see so many electrics and super nitro's running!

Thanks to everyone who came out!
Yes we had some computer issues in the beginning, but as haunted said, we have a better system worked out for next time. We are also going to call the software company again and figure out a way to modify the transponder number of a car.
Other than that we had some great racing! The electric races were always close (2-3 guys on the same lap) and the main was back and forth.
The gas TC races ran well. After we got the computer issues worked out we started each race 5 minutes after the previous and most of the gas guys were started and on the track when the race started. Rookie ran away with the victory in this class.
Super nitro had more racers than we had ever had. 6 guys competed for this title. I hope that better weather will draw even more out to the track!
We will have the final results and points tomorrow and i will try to get them posted on chicagorc.com.
Thanks again to everyone who made it out! I hope you will come again and I hope those who missed us this weekend will make it out in the future!

(1) T-Racer......I have to applogy about my behavior of today being marshelling after the 2nd heat.....but I have to say, I DID marshell at that race...you can ask JIM and Tomy, we were fighting to pick up several cars....but usually JIM and Tommy are a lttile closer then my position.....about the car in the middle, YES, I did miss that one, but I think that is a honest mistake, not doing that in purpose. And about where I stand (right in front of my pit area) YES again, I was being lazy, thats why I was marshelling the OHTER spot so YOU can see me marshelling, if marshelling in front of your own pit is not appropriate....I will not do that again, but overall, I am following all the rules, and I am not trying to get you upset, but on the other hand, I don't want to be SINGLE out (you were screaming MY NAME ONLY at the whole time, that I don't feel quite comfortable)....but again, my appology to you and ChicagolandRC.
(2) Walt....are you just going EASY on your new engine on your Super Nitro? Kinda slower then your old Nova Rossi Super Nitro...I am just wondering....also, were you racing toruing car? I don't even know you were there untill JIM told me after the MAIN...NTC3?
OK.....HTOP now.....
(1) Mike.....for ppl who BROUGHT their transponder, they should have the RIGHT to keep their # as priority, then for those who use the HAND OUT one, should have the rest of the # transponder.....and I know it will still have the conflict between the those who has their own transponder (like Tony and Myself both #6), then one of use will have to switch number. In this way, HOPEFULLY there are only few ppl in each heat need to switch transponder, instead of EVERYONE need to change...afterall, why do we need to get one for ourself?
Thats it....I think I am done for another 2 weeks, MOTHER's day is impossible for me to get the Tinley, but wife just told me I can go racing on SUNDAY anytime that I want (after today race).......and I am going to check my credit card now and see what was charged from the last 2 days.
WRXDAN...........where were you...? Brand new NTC3 for show only? No racing...?

I raced at hobbytown st. charles. I had an okay time, but really needed some expert help like I get at HTOP. I had a major leaning out problem, I figured out I had an air leak from a cylinder head screw coming loose. So it ran like crap. I do like the nitro shoes! The races took too long at times, they had to run the first race over because a car hit the computers power supply. It was fun, but I think I like HTOP better. My dads birthday was Saturday so I couldn't make it to HTOP. Next time for sure.
No micros this Wed. right?
Please tell me HTOP has a strict start time for the nitro cars. I really really hate when start times are delayed to wait for all the cars to get started. I had to re-fuel before the main even started. By then my engine temps were sky high.
mab....Can we use Paypal to pay the $50 member ship and then pick the transponder up at the next race?

I know you are really tired on racing for 2 days in a row. Hopefully, you can reply whenever u get a chance (hopefully in a week). Pls. give me the link or any article or forum about this topic. This topic was on my mind all night long and when I woke up this morning.
I did a research about cutting the clutch shoe #6587N or 6587 in 3 piece. I like to research about better performance in the car (Might be good for my car).
http://www.mytsn.com/products/product.asp?prid=192
Unfortunately, I did not see any article or forum about this topic. I remember putting a kawahara centax on Noel's Gt4. That centax has a 4 shoe clutch set up. One of the purpose of the Serpent clutch shoe (6587N) is to hold a piece of plate that holds the Clutch spring. If I put too much tension on the spring by turning the nut down. I mght push the cut clutch shoe serperately.
I reread Milko Tentof's perfect clutch. I reread this few times already.
http://www.mytsn.com/publ/publ.asp?pid=5674
http://www.mytsn.com/publ/publ.asp?pid=281
He cut the old centrifugal shoe 6588. The old one is a whole piece. I called up some guys and asked them about this topic. Doug (Team Serpent USA Manager) told me that I will be the first one who will do this experiment. I really want to try and test it. It might work bettter for our motors.
thanks in advance.

Rookie: Let me better explain what was happening with the computer. We were told that we could modify the "car number" in the race softwear. They gave us the impression that if you have transponder #7 we can assign your name to that transponder (i.e. so we can have a race with a #2 car, a #5 car, a #8 car, ect. As opposed to running 1, 2, 3, ....) The problem was that the softwear would NOT let us change the MODULE number (which is the number which corresponds to the transponder number). One thing that we can change is the car number. Their car number would then correspond to the transponder number under one condition. Each racer's car number must be less then the number of cars in the race, i.e. If there are 8 cars in a race the #9 and #10 transponders are useless and must be traded for a number from 1 to 8. If their are 10 racers then things are fine.
Having explained that, our goal had been to let everyone use their own number the entire day unless a conflict arrises (just like radio frequencies). The softwear did not let us do that so we were forced to run the cars in the #1, #2, #3... order which we used in the past.
People who bought transponders will recieve priority over those who did not. We will use the store set to fill in the remaining numbers and to sometimes change the crystals of people who bought transponders (to fill in the numbers, for example if we have 6 racers and one of them has transponder #9, we can trade for the day and you can get it back at the end of the day). I understand that you wish to keep the number you purchased, but that may not be possible all of the time.
Sorry for going on for so long.
Dan: Yes we do start the nitro races on a schedule. We count down 5 minutes from the previous race and start when the 5 minutes runs out. Due to computer problems this last week we did not always start exactly at 5 minutes, but that will not happen again in the future.
If you have money burning a hole in your paypal account you can send $50 to htuopil@aol.com, but it would be prefered if you called the store at (708) 445-8056 and they can ring you up via phone and have your reciept and transponder waiting for you when you come to the race.

kakolitoy......not exactly know what you want me to find out, what I was saying SAT was exactly the same as the article that Mika listed on the mytsn site....which is exactly the link that you send me....
http://www.mytsn.com/publ/publ.asp?pid=5674
Instead of using the original centax WHITE 3 piece shoes with the ciricle springs, they use the brown shoe (yes, the 1 piece one) and cutted it into 3 and installed them instead of using the white one....and WITHOUT the springs, that why, the methord is kinda like the standard 2 or 3 piece clutch shoes, but using the FORCE to engage, but without the springs, so the CENTAX will engage much faster..........and that is exactly what Mika mentioned on the above article....
I talked to DON (I am not sure his name is DON or what, but he used to work at Al's and he ran a V1RR on 2.4 with Cory/John's team....and he used to run 1/5th scale too).....after talked to him about this mod, he told me almost all the mid-west series ppl are using that methrod 2-3 years ago (they knew that technique before SERPENT does..?)...
I am not sure you understand what I am trying to say.....but Serpent_HK cutted the black shoes the wrong way and I am trying to show him the right way to cut that shoes....
And about called DOUG from Serpent USA that he told you that you are the first one to try that methrod...? I am not sure about that....that article was posted long time ago and I heard ppl discussing that on Impusle or IMPACT forum here long time ago....at least I tried that on my centax and I think they did a great job improving the engaging time.....but obviously, I was NOT the first one to try that technique in USA ( I might most likley misunderstood what you are saying....correct me if I am wrong.)

OK, GREAT WE GOT THAT CLEAR!!!
I think you had a chat with Ray Goff (V one rr w/ 5 port collari). He is the one whose forcing me and motivating me to go to Racine and Bradley for the midwest series. The 6578N 3 piece substitute to the white 3 piece is what my brother is running right now.
Anyway, HK Serpent had a different situation. He asked me if I have another shoe because his 6578 (black) was worn out. He said the shoe was rubbing the clutch bell. He meant the shoe for the plate not for the flywheel. I think the problem of his clutch was the play. I told him to measure it right w/a digital caliper.
I asked Doug if I can cut the 6578 clutch shoe to 3 piece and put it back to its original place before the clutch spring (the spring that looks like a shock spring not the round spring for the 3 piece clutch shoe). That is why he said I am the first guy whose doing this experiment.
Now everything is clear.
Some feedback already from this weekend's racing... I like to see that. I think we had a pretty darn good first week of racing in Tinley. I hardly heard any complaints, in fact, I think I only heard one, which was a radio interference issue during a race. We're going to continue to be very strict about not turning on radios in the pits, so I don't think we'll have many radio interference problems this year (no one wants to be kicked out).
wrxdan: Regarding micro races, we will hold Micro races this Wednesday assuming:
1. our new outdoor lights are up in time so we can race outside (and I might have a back up plan in case they are not).
2. weather permitting.
There is a banquet going on in the normal meeting room this Wednesday, so we're moving outside with the micros.
Mab-man: you might want to check out Alycat... I'm pretty sure they have an option to keep transponder numbers after a resort whenever possible... might make your job easier. I've never used that feature, but I think the other clubs using Alycat and KO are using it. Plus, you can use the computer to do the 5 minute countdown between races so that the races go off at EXACTLY 5 minutes and there is no stopping it. It's amazing how few people are ready on time when you just tell them to get out there, and how EVERYONE is ready on time when you tell them it's a computer countdown and there is no way to stop it. In the end, I think everyone (especially nitro guys) appreciate a firm countdown to the start, no exceptions.
Howard: I was running in the touring car class with you... I had one of Tony's old bodies on my car (black and reddish Stratus, beat up, definitely not my normal, bright paint scheme... I should have that by next week). I think I took you out really bad in the first qualifier (sorry). The first lap of the first qualifier was the first time that car had touched the ground! It was handling pretty well right out of the box, but I don't think it was shifting, so it was doing a kazillion RPM down the straightaway at about 20 mph. I need to do some 2-speed adjusting in front of my house some time this week.
I finished 3rd in the main and I think I qualified 4th right behind you. We'll have results from yesterday up on our web site by the end of today (if all goes well). We'll also have quite a few pictures up there (www.chicagolandrc.com).
Regarding my Super, I was still being really easy on that new engine, running super rich. I'll start leaning it out next week to see what it can do. I also had no grip with my super (understeer). I think I need to loosen up the front differential and maybe change tire compound... I'll get it figured out.
I hope everyone had a great time. From what I heard out there, people were pretty happy. I hope to see more and more people out at the track every week (especially the weeks where HTOP is not racing).

kakolitoy.......yeah, we were talking about 2 different things but the same PARTS.....no, you cannot cut that 2nd clutch shoes into 3 and place that into the centax and place that washer and springs onto it.....that will not work, I was talking about the 3 cutted shoes place at the FIRST layer of the centax, like Miko mentioned on the article.......but Serpent_HK cutted them at the wrong area and that's why those shoes are not engaging...
One more thing for you kakolitoy.........get those IMPACT and Veteq dialed.........TINLEY's track is built for those machine. (but you need some 1/8th guy, no 1/8th yesterday except the 1/8th buggy with TC body, that doesn't count)
Walt.............you sure that was the FIRST HEAT...? Or the 3rd HEAT...? Cause someone did took me out and dented my perfect looking dual chamber pipe at the 3rd heat and bented 2 front pillow balls (again, that is really really poor engineer from AE)......I think I did OK on my 1st and 2nd heat run without hitting anything or anyone.......but now, you own me a dent on your PIPE....LOL
Yeah, I was stupid....lean out the top end(and low-end) on the engine at the main and costed me the race......I think I was running ok behind Aaron and ESPO at all time(yes, they are FAST as they were described before by others)...untill engine getting hotter and hotter (315 at the end) and I start losing low-end right after 5 minutes mark....
Just talk to wife last night........I think she has no problem for me racing SUNDAY once in a while, like 2 weeks per MONTH....so count me in more offen then I expected....
YES, I figure you are RICHEN the engine on your SNRS4 by a lot....that is no Walt's super at all..........and I should be ready to use my NTC3 engine on my SNRS4 (too lazy to break in another engine) and might be using a Sirio for NTC3 or just SX-12 Nova Mega....on HTOP, I use a softer springs and actually did give me some steering back, but like you said, smoother front diff should help, which I have to DO as well cause I used a lot of DIFF LOCK on the front and I have no idea how to clean them all out....may be a extra diff for more steering is better/faster.
Looking forward for the next race, and are you still on 2.4? Or is 2.4 still ON?
Howard: I just looked at the results and you are right... it was not the first heat that I smacked you.. I sat that one out. It must have been the second or third. I had moved WAY off line, on the right hand side of the track somewhere, to let Espo by (and you). I thought you had cleared when I tried to come back on line, but I misjudged it really bad and t-boned you... that was me. Really sorry. You don't see that crap from me often though.
I hope to have my cars running right next week, but I don't know if I'll be able to stay the entire day... Mother's Day and all, but I should be there in the morning at least.
And I'm glad to hear that you'll be able to make it out to a couple of races/month. That's great.
The 2.4 enduro is still on as far as I know (but I forgot to talk about it at the driver's meeting yesterday). We are still team 'Shock and Awe'.
And I have a question about the NTC3 2-speed. I set it up like the instruction said, but I don't think it ever shifted. I think that was about the only problem I had with the car. Anyone have the same problem or know where it should be adjusted to make it work right?

WOW that must have been expensive!!! Howard, you may want to pull your credit report every so often to be sure your wife isn't taking out gold cards every other weekend:)
Walt... I have my NTC3 2 speed set to what the manual says. I have only hit second once because the engine was screaming. I haven't had the need for the 2 speed yet so I haven't messed with it. One thing I did like about my old HPI finger type 2 speed is that you knew 100% when it hit second. With the TC3s clutch type you just hear the engine pitch change from the load change. Well that's what I have been told.

Here is a great pic of my Rb 310 5 port turbo. I had this motor for almost 3 years and running it w/o changing Piston and sleeve. Before the 3rd heat, I was trying to start my car to practise. Then, my motor locked and I thought I was having a lot of compression. I stopped starting the car because I knew from the sound of my motor a month ago that this motor will die soon. I brought a extra RS12 S1 for my back up, but did not bother to install it because I really want to race my younger brother in Super and Impact class. I ran out of clutch shoe in my impact.I was using the black clutch shoe. I have to change it and just go for the A main.

I made some rookie (not Rookie Solara) mistakes last weekend. I had some wacked out tuning problems. I found later that a head screw came loose and the rubber o-ring on the carb where the carb meets the engine block had split. So I'm guessing that air was leaking past the split o-ring causing a lean condition. It ran real hot in the main, high 200s. I pulled the head off, the plug was trashed but the piston looked okay. I could see no pitting. Compression feels okay, I cam turn it over by hand but it's not easy to do. It felt much harder to turn over when it was new, but that's expected. What else can I check? Are compression gauges a must have?
Looking back, I should have run a colder plug. What plugs ranges should I have on hand? What heat ranges do you end up using the most?
Last question: Now that my needle setting are all screwed up due to the air leak, what is a good baseline for the LS and HS needles? The engine has around 15 tanks through it. First 10 were break in. Edit: Oh it's a NTC3 MT12 combo.
Thanks guys. And yes I know there is a nitro forum, but you guys know your stuff.

anyone out here plan to do anymore electric racing this summer?
i was racing the blue/white electric TC3 at HTOP and Tinley...my set-up seemed pretty dialed in for the Tinley track.
Maybe I'll just have to pick-up a NTC3?!
I saw a red/white RTR NTC3s at Tinley doing pretty good in the B Main....
How good is the RTR NTC3 if I added my radio equip, racing servos, ESC, threaded shocks off my electric TC3...and a 2 speed??

Nexus,
I'm sure someone could answer better than me as I don't run that class, but I would think that if you are going to put your own electronics and everything in you might as well buy the kit. I don't know all of the better parts that come with the kit, but I know it comes with a 2-speed. So the kit is $40 or so cheaper + you save $50 on the 2-speed. That gives you almost $100 to put toward a better engine. You would need a body, but bodies are cheap.
Just my 2 cents,

RTR NTC3 should be good......especially you let me drive it, however.........ESC on Nitro TC3..? You sure you need one of those to increase the speed of your high torque servo or you need that to power the throttle servo motor...? Are you going to use 19T motors on those servos too.....? Or Nitro 19T motor powered NTC3?
LOL....I was just picking at you, but seriously, for racer like you, get a KIT instead....you are no rookie, I think you should jump start from the KIT instead of playing around the RTR for 2 weekends and ended up spending the other $2-$300 to upgrade everything to the KIT version then have plenty of RTR parts as paper weight...
On the other topic, if you realized the 2nd place finish at the B-main (a white with black/gold scheme 911 Carrara turbo body), that NTC3 (just 2 weeks old) is for sale in fact...........the owner just told me yesterday he decided to go back to SERPENT camp, so his almost brand new NTC3 is for sale....
He has the TEAM AE starter box, 2 speed, some spare parts, brand new rear exhaust never use, you might need to get a new engine cause he is re-using his Nova Mega on his 705...and that is NOT RTR, it is a NTC3 Team kits....
Let me know and I will hook you up.................

Rookie mistake....? I did the exact same thing on the A yesterday and caused my the race....and almost fried the motor.....but later found out the reason I had no fuel to the motor is because my tank was smashed into 3 pieces....thats why.
I do have the standard needle setting for your MT-12, but I left that in my book at home, when I get home, I will dig that up to you and email you....I remembered it was X number of turn from closing for the high end and X-amount of turns from closing for the low-end.....and the idle keep it X mm from closing....that should get you started (HA HA, just kidding, I will email you the real number or made you a copy of the MT-12 setup guide)

As much as I don't want to GO BACK to the Serpent 705 camp, but the looks of the 705 plus the performance yesterday from Aaron/Espo...........it really proved that the 705 is the real deal.
I heard there is ONE guy we all know jumped the boat from NTC3 to 705 already right after yesterday Tinley race.........and you guys will see whos that person is later at 2.4.......
Like you mentioned before, ESPO is the guy to beat, he proved the 705 the right way and he deserve the win......however, he is catchable and beatable........not like somebody in MICRO racing, that is almost impossible to get within 1-2 laps....

05-05-2003, 11:28 PM
Rookie, I think it's more espo's driving ability then it is the 705. Look, he didn't have a too-lean engine, or any broken parts and hardly ever crashes. The guy knows how to tune his suspension and drives the car good - (if a semi-pro NTC3 driver showed up, he'd probably be right with espo) Everyone else out there besides that Aaron, crashes and eventually breaks parts. Espo don't crash, so he wins. If you convinced him to learn how to tune a NTC3, he'd probably drive it just as well as the serpent.
I think I can catch Espo by the end of this season with my NTC3. I know I can catch him with my super because I already did that last year (I managed to TQ one day that he was there, but I was running my Super Nitro). He couldn't stick around for the main that day.
I really hope he comes to a lot of races this summer. It's nice having some really fast guys around to chase down. It sets a standard that is fun to try to achieve. Even if I can't catch him, I certainly will have fun trying!
I adjusted my NTC3 2-speed yesterday out in front of my house and it is actually shifting now, so maybe this weekend I'll have a little more to show those guys, that is, if they can make it out on Mother's Day.... heck, if I can make it out on Mother's Day. I'm really impressed with how well the NTC3 ran with the stock settings. I think the only crash I had all day was into the side of Howard (sorry Howard). So far, I like the car (well, don't get me started about the crappy 4-40 machine screws they use as self taping screws into plastic... I can't believe they do that... I think I replaced 98% of the horrible screws that car came with, I highly recommend that anyone with a NTC3, or any Associated car, replace all the screws that thread into plastic with screws that are actually designed to thread into plastic, not metal... shame on Associated). Enough ranting for me for now.
Nexus: We hope to get enough guys to run a good electric class at Tinley, but it just seems like most of the electric guys are doing just what you said... shelving their electric car for the summer and picking up a nitro car. I guess that's not really a bad thing. You can't race the nitro car year-round anyway, so you'll still get at least half of the year to run electric. If you do decide to get the nitro car, definitely get the kit. Why would you put up with the crappy RTR AM radio when you've got a better one on the shelf? And the servos that come with are junk, as well as the engine. I 'barely' believe in RTRs for even a complete beginner... there is no way a serious racer like yourself should get one. No way.

Like you mentioned before, ESPO is the guy to beat, he proved the 705 the right way and he deserve the win......however, he is catchable and beatable........not like somebody in MICRO racing, that is almost impossible to get within 1-2 laps.... .
Its not the car its just that day is for Espo. I know u can catch him w/ your NTC3 (no doubt). I know Walt can do it too. This what I like about racing we always have something to look forward to. We cannot wait to race Walt in Super and Impact class its just we still have finals so we cannot race 2 days in a row. Soon as we get out of this semester we have two things in mind. Set up our Serpents and Hit Tinley Park.
I have to break in my 2 motors and pick which one I really want to use this season.
BTW: Walt Cannot wait to meet your cars again.

Espo don't crash, so he wins. If you convinced him to learn how to tune a NTC3, he'd probably drive it just as well as the serpent.
xxx mike, I don't think I have any question about ESPO's driving ability........he is fast, and he is good, on top of that, the 705 is a much better SERPENT then the old version, thats what I am trying to say....beside, where were you the whole time...? Actually, I don't even know Walt was racing his NTC3 untill the main.....I was playing with my broken gas tank....
However, does ESPO only ended up 2nd..? Cause I think Aaron was the overall FASTEST guy of the main and heat....and is Aaron the guy that has a broken arm and still beat all of us..?
Every track should have some fast guy, so we can follow and try to pass...........

Who had the NTC3 with a Sirio motor w/blue heatsink? Most of them seem to be black heatsinks, first time I've ever seen a blue one (with the sirio markings on it). Just wondering if it was anything special.. or maybe I have just not seen too many sirios yet.

Yeah, I asked the same thing....actually, that is Tommy's friend's Trinity (I think, unless there is another one with NTC3)....it is a blue heat sink SIRIO and he said that is TURBO, thats why it is blue....
However, I went to Trinity site or even store like speedtech....outlaw Sirio (turbo) is still BLACK heat sink, so, it must be either some old SIRIO model or the LATEST model...
BTW, whos going this sunday....? I might have a slim chance to run the SNRS4 (but not NTC3....cause I don't have the engine for NTC3 for now)

xxx mike........you see, that is the PART I don't like the NTC3, the whole car is made of GLASS...........one touch, and you are off the line (you will either miss something or break something...) I am sure that was the reason you are off the side line on last week, and that was also my reason why my 3rd was only 5 laps and main is 300 degree (cracked tank plus leaking something on the engine and 4 bent pillow balls).....everytime I mentioned that, I am always thinking about 705.
About foams..........2 person you can deal with, (1) Serpent _HK....Nitro shoes are very good on NTC3.....and they are like $15-16 per pair from him, and you can also order Ellegi from him for the same price (2) Kakolitoy - didn't he say his shipment should be here soon...? And last time I heard his price is around the same....
$22 per pari of Nitro shoes are the sticker mat Al's, you can get 20% off afterall, still.....like $18 out the door, you can always email Serpent_hk for foams, he doesn't have all the parts, but he seems like have all the FOAMS.

I didn't like the cross rims at all. I won't be buying them any more. I was sliding around way to much out there. 55 durometer is way too hard for the front, at least until it gets warmer out. Also, since the rear are so wide, I wasn't getting much wear back there. Now the fronts are way smaller than the rears, so I can't run them any more.
Last year, I had a lot of luck with the 45 durometer tires all the way around. I'm going back to that this week (if I can race on Mother's Day... yet to be determined). I really like having the same tires on all corners... I rotate them around the car between heats and keep them all the same diameter so they last a good long time.

I am really sorry triple x and Haunted. I am not sure why my source is taking so long to reply back, I know they are busy too in racing in their countries.
I think the best way is stock up parts is in the off season because I get quick replies on those days. The last time I ordered I had very quick replies and get 6 Novarossi S5 and Ellegi Serpent stock tires. I am concern too in the amount of tires that I have right now. HTOP is a tire eater. Too much sharp turn then brake and accelerate. My younger brother hates it if the tire loose a little bit traction. He will get new tires in the box and give his use and still good condition tire to Evan or throw it away in the garbage.
However, good news for you Triple X. I want to compremise
www.Gasrccar.com is my link in the US.
I think $26 to $27 a set rear and front for Mugen and Serpent
stock tires and most of his tires plus $4 shipping. I think he also have Jaco for $12. Very reasonble price and quick shiping.
Lee Muse is very reliable guy. He does not have a real shop, just online shop. His been in into this busines for a long time w/ his father. He also have a 1800 number.
Check his site he has a lot of stocks. I recommend Lee AA++++++
Hope this helps.

I hate nitroshoes! Thanks for the link to gasrccar.com.. the price seems reasonable for Ellegi / Serpent foams.. thats probably who I will go through if he can get them to me before this weekend.
I did talk to A about getting those tires too and he had Nitro shoes (which i hate) and didn't have the Ellegi tires on serpent rims that I wanted. Maybe I can get him to beat the prices at gasrccar and go through him.. I'd rather give a local the sales anyway if he can still make money off it and will do it.
(Good thing I didnt buy those cross wheels for my Super) hehe glad Walt told us they suck before I wasted my money on them.

PLs. give me your feedback on Jaco.
Ellegi, Fast, and Jaco, Arrow, Ufra came on one company and the same materials.
Jaco in the same stock as in the 705 and impulse pro the only difference is the color of the rims. They are all the same. If somebody said Ellegi is better than Jaco I really want to know the difference of the 2 because same compound came in the same factory.
I know CRC, dynamite came from the U.S.
PLs. give me a feedback so @ least I know. If there is something to complian I will because they have awesome costumer service. Then when they return my products the only difference is the rims.
On the break I was using this tires for practise, and I got nothing to compare they are the same to me.
I only use the 5 spoke yellow Jaco in the race because its a original serpent color rims. If u notice our cars got 5 spokes because they are Jaco rear and Ufra front. They were not Original Serpent stock tires.
That is why I really want to know because the performance in our is the same as Ellegis
Rememeber, tonight is outdoor micro racing at Chicagoland R/C Raceway since there is a banquet going on in the normal room we race in.
It looks like the rain has passed us by, but it's not going to be very warm out there. Wondering how many of you will still make it out if it's only going to be about 60 degrees when we start and drop to 50 degrees or so by the time we're done?

Walt, thanks for the head up about SNRS4 foams, I think I cannot save a buck or 2 on those extremely expensive SNRS4 foams from Rc4less ($48 per 4...that is expensive).
Also, I am not going to make it tonight and next week (due to work).......if I have a difficult time to due with NTC3 on 60 degree....I just don't think I can handle MICRO on 60 degree either.........hope you guys have fun.

I don't like the nitroshoes because the rims are flexible and weak. The ellegi/serpent rims are less flexible and stronger. I've seen a LOT of broken rims with nitroshoes, whereas the serpent rims seem to hold up very well... even with my bad driving.

thanks for letting me know. I will set you a Ellegi on a side. I will carry both brands anyway. That is not a problem if you hate the Jaco's I will sell you my Ellegi's there about the same price anyway.
I just had a chat w/ Korgae (Team Jaco). He said that the old Jaco's had those problem, but this Jaco I am going to carry are produce for this year. These rims should be tough enough like most brands out there.
In case I have stock of Serpent Ellegi I am only going to carry 40 to 42 shore. I want to use the Mugen Mtx 3 (fast) tires too. I heard a lot of great feedback in Europe and Asia about this tires. I want to run the fast tires especially in Tinley park. I heard they put something in these tires. Diffferent glue and extra compund just not sure what it is. I want to run Ifmar rules as I can. The only Illegal in my car is my motor. I will try to run a Novarossi S3 (Roar and Ifmar legal), so I will use to race legally.

LMAO... you are collecting them eh?
Thats not even as bad as down at Xtreme R/C in Bradley... they use a home inkjet printer and avery label paper to print little tags for A-main first-third place... they are probably like 7/8 tall and 3" across. The perfect reward! Just what I've always wanted! hehe
Kakolitoy, I ordered a few sets of tires and got some Mugen style Ellegi to try (coming).. I'll let you know if they seem any different then regular Ellegi once I get them.
So, JACO says they changed the rim and made them more strong on the nitroshoe rim? Any chance of them giving a sample set for me to try? (haha - yeah right!) We can all dream, right? Thats probably the only way to get me to become a nitroshoe user though.

We are scheduled to start this Friday. I sent an e-mail out to everyone registered and said that since we have not held a practice day like we wanted too (couldn't, because the bowling leagues just ended now, so the parking lot wasn't available until now), we're going to make this Friday a practice day and have a final decision about the tires.
I'm sick of waiting around to hear about those BSR spec tires. We're going to make the official tire for RCNASCAR the 26mm HPI slick. They are cheap ($9.99/pair at Tower), durable, available, and are only offered in two compounds ('B' and 'Pro'), so people won't have to buy a lot of different tires. They are also easy to spec because they say HPI on the side. And, HPI even offers a 26mm wide NASCAR rim.
I talked to some of the RCNASCAR guys yesterday and they just wanted us to make up our minds regarding the tires. We're going to choose the HPI tire for the first half of the season at least, and then see how they hold up.

Yeah! a used one like my younger brother usually do. He give it away or throw it away. I would not charge $16 for a pair of tire so it will be affordable for everyone. My goal is to help most racers to use what they want to use. For example, some racers will not use foam tires because its expensive and easily to wear out. I understand paying $18 plus tax for a pair of foam and use it for 3 to 4 races is a lot of money. I used to limit myself when I started this hobby cannot use that because I cannot buy the product etc.. etc.. I am not going to sell everything like a shop just some small products that most of the times back ordered in the shop. I always support the local shop because without them I will not know RC racing especially Al's. Also, small stuff that I do not want to pay shipping such as paints, fuel, small parts, and misc. stuff I will purchase it from our LHS.
BTW: you do not have to be nitro shoe user I will carry ATS, Ellegi, Enneti, CFS rain tires, Arrows, Fast, GTC etc. All of them are the same the difference are the rims, colors, and some the glue. I will just sell extra in the track, but not all. I have to have my needs too.

Are you going to be selling those tires at the next HTOP race? If so will they fit on a HPI RS4, and how much are you asking? I've always wanted to try foams out on my car, but I've never actually gotten any. I've been trying to convince Fred at HTOP to start carrying them. Hopefully this summer he will... Anyway I'd love to try them out if they fit, and you are selling them.

I made all the bodies that we race. Even my younger brother's bodies (He does not do any mechanical, electrical, or paint job. All he does is drive. I like that anyway so he can focus on driving) thanks for the offer.
Yes I will sell the tires, and difinitely cheaper than a hobby shop. Do not worry it will be affordable. Like what I said I will not charge $16 no taxes or shipping fee for a pair of tires. I am expecting my shipment soon. I even Express it because costums in U.S. were very strict in all imports. One time my motors were stock in the US costums for a week.
This will fit straight to a RS4. If it is hot the next race you will like the traction of the foams.
