how do these perform compared to its counterparts such as novarossi, picco, CMB, OPS, and the such??? (i'm particularly interested in the .21)
thanks
and for those of you who have experience w/ different o/b's...how do o.s. and k&b compare

The K&B just doesn't have the power or reliability of the others. In my opinion, the Nova Rossi is the one to beat. Mac also makes a good 21 as does CMB.

the .21 is good for the price and what it is.......old-school low compression head [for low nitro content] and the works, but it wont beat a MAC any day. the .18 [got one myself] is awesome judging by the looks and i cant wait to test it in the water.
Randy, have you compared the Rossi and MAC personally?
just wondering, i dont have any experince w/ either but everyone i've talked to 'bout said the MAC was better......

Many years ago I ran a rigger with a Nova Rossi and a few years ago I had a .21 K&B inboard in my daughters cat.
I've seen a few 21 Macs and plenty of Nova Rossis. Hard to say which one is the best. I do know that the 21 rigger straight away record is held with a NR using one of my props. 100 mph!!!!!
Like you, I go with what others say and what I personally observe.

People that I know that have run the K&B inboards liked them for their low price, durability and ease of use. They used to be the motor to run years ago but have been surpassed by todays hotter motors.
I like the K&B outboards, I have owned both the water-cooled and the newer air-cooled SS motors. The SS is a finicky motor that has to be run rich. The higher priced OS's and Thunder Tigers have yet to become a better motor in my opinion. The problem now lies in finding one as anything coming out of the new K&B is hard to get. There is still a lot of performance aftermarket parts available but hardly any for the OS.
I'm running a Rossi Niagara in my Speedmaster 21 and am very happy with it. It has been overshadowed by the Nova Rossi's, MAC's and CMB's. The higher price and the motor not being that well known in racing circles is having people not giving it a shot.

what about OPS engines...
i was under the impression these were quality engines, but they cost about half as much as anything else....
what gives?

Want to buy one? I have a 7.5 OPS never mounted or fired NIB with an Aeromarine flex hex and glow plug for $150.00 shipped. I'm losing over $$75.00 on the deal. Hard to buy a decent .12 motor for that price. The .21 isn't that bad of an engine, it just doesn't quite have the stuff to be competitive against todays high revving, high HP engines that others are putting out.

while we're on the subject of .21s, what do you think of Grimracer's [i think it's his, maybe Hammer's] OS .21s? i know they're not going to compete w/ a NR or MAC, but i was thinking that it would be a good way to start racing with a .21, and i could upgrade to a NR or MAC later when it's value wouldn't be wasted on me.......i'm [hopefully] going to get either the BBY nitro patriot, BBY charger, or Speedmaster .21 for Xmas, and this looked like a good opportunity to get a powerplant.
