I have a Kyosho Viper R i have had it for about 2 years and I am getting bored with it. What can I install for under $100 to turn it into a legitamately fast boat? Or should I just try to sell it and upgrade?

In many past posts the Viper owners have done such things as replacing the stock motor with a 17-turn car motor, added water-cooling and even replaced the stock drive for a flex cable arrangement, but there have also been those who've just sold their Vipers and gone to another electric-powered boat.
Limiting your mods to under 100.00 with the new motor and a seven-cell pack (if you don't have one already) would likely show you some speed increases, plus you'll likely see some additional posts here to give you some more angles to modifying your Viper.

Most chargers like yours will charge seven-cell packs, but you'll need to monitor the pack's temperture just in case. If possible, you can hookup a cheap voltmeter (the pocket models at Radio Shack will do) to the pack under charge and shut it down when you see the voltage start to drop, which is basically making you the peak-checker! Under normal conditions it'll take another 10-20 minutes to charge your seven-cell over a six-cell, depending on the pack's MAH rating.
