I JUST GOT A 30 RC CAT. ITS AWESOME I GOT IT FOR ABOUT 150 ON EBAY. IT GOES ABOUT 20 WITH TWIN 360ST KYOSHO RACING MOTORS. ARE THOSE MOTORS ANY GOOD? WHAT MOTORS COULD I GET TO IMPROVE THE SPEED AND I CAN'T SPEND MUCH MORE ON THIS BOAT. ALSO, WOULD IT BURN OUT THE MOTORS IF I USED MORE THAN 6 CELLS ON THESE MOTORS? PLEASE HELP!!

Running both 05 sized motors on only 6 cells will be pathetic, you really need to run 12. Find the best Fast Electric boating site in the world right here. (www.rumrunnerracing.com)
You can talk with the fastest guys in the world there, and they're the most helpful, experieced, friendly group of people around. A new world record was set today for electric boats @ 102.9 mph, and it was done by one of the forum members from Germany. Just incredible!

I would not use more then 7 cells without water cooling.
Also make sure that your ESC can handle the Amps.
With the water cooling and a good ESC you could go to 12 cells.
the motor will last about one tenth, the number of runs that you have now. This is the cost of speed.

Just check out the site I listed above, you won't regret it. You may decide to swap the dual 05's for a single 700 or 800 sized motor. Much better setup, more reliability, runtime, speed, etc...

Hey thanks for the reply that helps a lot! So i should definetely run more than 6 cells and make sure i water cool the engines. Sounds good! thanks

Hey if i were to upgrade the two motors what motors should i get that would work well but not be to expensive? Also, if i were to switch to one engine would that decrease my speed? What is the advantage of two motors? Please help! Thanks a lot,
Matt

There are really no real advantages to running two 05 motors, other than increasing torque. You lose run time, and unless the motors are perfectly in sync, one will always be fighting the other (if they're turning a common gear), decreasing efficiency even more. All you have to do is look at all the record holding boats - I don't think there is one dual motored boat any longer.
If you want to stick with the stock drive setup - running dual 05's, then just bump to a couple of mild winds. Maybe 15 to 19 turn.
If you really like the hull, you may want to consider converting to a single 700 or 800 sized motor. These motors run much cooler longer (6 to 8 minutes vs 2 to 3 minutes for an 05), and they've got a much longer lifespan with minimal maintenance. You should really check out the link I provided above, those guys have helped tons of people "see the light". Feel free to e-mail me if you've got any questions.

I was wondering if this motor would be better for my cat than my twin Le mans 360st. Would this improve speed or will it have more rpm's than my electric motors now?

Matt,
i would definitely go w/ a single 800 bb over the twin Lemans.
then again, twin screw cats are really cool boats, it would be a pity to rearrange the drive..........maybe 2 700 bb motors would work. what hull are you using? it would be alot of work to get these in and running, and you would need at least 12 cells, but twin-screws are rare and im sure it would create a stir at the lake. on the other hand, if this is a serious racing boat, get a graupner 800bb and put 12 Sanyo 2400 mah NiCd cells [these arent the best, but they are very good for the price, durable, and reliable] in the boat. also, be sure to run a prop that is fully balanced, sharpened, and worked for the job. there are tons of places that can help you do this, here are a couple:
fastelectrics.com
finedesignrc.com
climateboatworks.com
dpileisuresports.com
bbyracing.com
keep us posted on how it goes.....

matt,
that's awesome!!
i'm working on the same kind of project, converting a 25" scratch-built cat to nitro. i've strengthened the sponsons w/ some extra fiberglass and im in the process of installing a K&B .18 marine engine........are you going to be using a .21? if so, i know a VERY expertineced racer who also runs a shop, and he's got 70 brand new OS .21s complete w/ pullstarts and flywheels waiting for homes, 100$ each. i'll probably be getting one for my next project [which'll be a .21 mono], so if i sound too enthusiastic it's cuz i know it's helpfull to have someone else installing and breaking in the same engine @ the same time........

I might be interested in one for a nitro vee that I am getting soon. I am planning on taking out the ez start and .15 engine and either putting in an M-16 or some .21. About how fast would that OS .21 engine your talking about push the nitro vee? Also what else would I need for it to put it in my boat. Thanks and how would I go about buying the engine if i decided i wanted it? Thanks a lot!

I wouldn't waste the money on hopping up the Nitro Vee, it'll just fall apart. The ABS won't hold up to the vibrations from a larger motor, and the hull design won't work well with much more power than the stock .15. I've done a few minor mods to my Nitro Vee, like an O.S. 10E carb, removed the starter and RTS system, and I'm running 30 % nitro, the thing is plenty fast to be fun. It's already at the edge of it's performance envelope, and will be a real handful to drive without modification to the planing surface.
If you really want to go fast, spring for a boat designed for more power, like an Aeromarine, Seaducer, or AC.
In response to some comments made above, the 800 size electric motors are pretty mild on 12 cells, and are really meant to be run on 18. Also, the 700 motors are best run on 12 to 14 cells each , so if you drop two in, look at running 24 to 28 cells, unless you want pathetic run time or pathetic speed.

well-said sorcerer-
the nitro vee isnt meant for more than a beginner boat......you might want to consider the hobbico nitro hammer, it is a well-made fiberglass hull, and it would stand up to the strain of an OS .21.
