Hello all,

I'm putting together a Peck Polymers Genesis slope glider. I really like how it looks and got it because it's different, and thought converting it would be a breeze, and it is.

Specs:

wingspan: 59 inch
area: 346 square inches
weight: 10-12 ounces

My question would be:

1) This plane does not have rudder capabilities. If I want to put a rudder in it, how would I calculate the width and length of the rudder to be installed?

2) Judging by the specs. would it be possible to launch this plane in a level ground sea level? (For it's supposed to be flown as a sloper)

Here's some pics. of my progress.

I made a firewall, that would house a mega or sp400

The box, that it came with says, that this is a slope wing airplane. Wing type airplane would be the Zagi's right. Zagi's being a winger plane and without rudder, how does it fly? I mean what make it go up and down?

1a) Elevon mixing? Can I mix my ailo's to act as elevator? If so, can it be possible using one servo to the aileron? I have never flow a zagi, and have never dealt with elevon mixing before:(

I Antonio,
Nice looking start. First, the rudder question. I use about 50% of the total area of the vertical tail for a rudder. There is nothing fussy here, it could be smalle in chord with no big deal.
The elevons are both your roll and pitch control. Normally, you connect one servo to each surface, and use the mixing function in the transmitter to work out the mix. You want the the mix labeled Elevon or just elev. When things are set correctly, the elevons will move up and down together with the elevator stick, and move like ailerons with the aileron stick motion. You will need to watch that the aileron function is going the right way, left elevon up for left stick, etc.
Level ground launching? As a glider it would take a nice smooth throw to get enough airspeed, and the power version would be about the same. A nice smooth level throw.
Cheers, Dave

I'd suggest leaving the rudder as a slab. With that high an aspect ratio and that short a tail moment, I doubt a movable rudder would have much effect. The mixed controls (elevons) are what does all the work.
Zagis don'r need the rudder because they are swept back more. This put drag behind the CG (simple explanation) and keeps it from yawing.

Your Radio will need mixing to work with a Zagi type set-up.
2 servos are needed, one for each ail.

If the TX doesn't have mixing a mixer can be added to the plane at a weight gain and a low cost. 20$ aprox

Thank you guys, I finally got it. My radio can do the Job.. This plane is going to be my baby project:)
