Traxxas said it could be done and that there was an article on their website with directions on drilling out tbe shaft hole and replacing the shafts and installing shouldered bearings. Problem is I can't find anything about this on their website. Anyone out there done this? I'm running OCTURA PROPS AND SHAFTS, TrinitY SPEED GEM PRO 2 AMBER 17T DOUBLES and have the Traxxas water cooling system installed and modified so that it also helps cool the ESC. I'd really rather have the bearing set up over the bushings but I need detailed instructions and a source for the bearings ( a part # and source would really be handy). Hope that someone out there can give me some feedback on this type of set up, or where to find it on TRAXXAS website. Thanks. Daniel M. Hallman A.K.A. THE LAB RAT...

In the artical that Traxxas is talking about, the person explains how to do it. latter on under testing he says no DON'T do it,too thin, too weak. Use the busings with tefflon washers.

daniel,
my advice is go ahead and replace the outdrive with two stationary drives and a rudder, using quality hardware will make your drive system last longer, run smoother, be more reliable, increase speed, and increase handling. go to dpileisuresports.com and check out their selecetion of fuller's hardware. this stuff is REALLY nice, and a good bargain too.
if you've been to lou's site, you know that the villian has the potential to be a great boat, but ya gotta get rid of the stock outdrive.

Daniel bearings good but require maintenance and rust out easily
a better option IMO is teflon bushings - Octura carries these and they do not need the same level of care to stay in top nic as bearings - they are however as low in friction as most bearings will be particularlly after 1- 2 runs

Contacted BOCA BEARINGS, they have a kit for the VILLAIN IV that comes with eight shouldered and what they refer to as GREEN SEALED ( read hard rubber) that is on the outside of the bearing. There are four that replace the OILITE BUSHINGS in the stuffing tubes and four that replace the OILITE BUSHINGS in the outdrives. They were not cheap (39.95 per set) but I think in the long run they will reduce wear and tear on the drive system. You can check your local hobby shop or buy them direct from BOCA. There phone number is listed in R/C BOAT MODELER and I think their web address is www.bocabearings.com. If this isn't correct just do a search for BOCA BEARINGS. It's not a cheap upgrabe, but I think that the reduction in friction will be money well spent if your doing modifications to your VILLAIN IV. One other thing, the bearings are the same size os the oilite bushings so to put them in the outdrives you do not have to drill anything out to make them fit.   Daniel M.
