anyone have experience w/ these?
i know O.S. reliability and value is second to none....
and in cars, they're top performers...
but in comparison w/ hot foreigners like picco, novarossi, and the such.....how do they perform
im specifically interested in the .21 rg-m and the .46 vr-m
thanks

OS reliability? The ones I ran years ago in nitro trucks had to be rebuilt after about every gallon of fuel, hopefully their engines have come a long way since. The .46 sized engine is popular with the 1/8 scale hydro racers and has one of the best carbs in the business. I don't think that I've seen one of their .21's run yet so I can't give an opinion on it.

thanks for the input
before o.s. standardized abc in their engines, i would venture so far to say that the sleeves wore out rather quickly
but in all the os ive had (starting w/ a 8 yr old cz), theyve been nothing but solid performers
....id like to go w/ o.s. whether i choose inboard or outboard...but just based on specs, their performance numbers dont match (or come close to) some others such as previously mentioned....whether the real-world numbers are clearly visible or not is what im hopin to find out....cause i'd like to stick w/ something i know wont let me down

The guy selling them is Hammerhead, he just joined this Forum so he should be seeing this thread soon.

The MAC 21 is the best 21 on the market right now. for os the best 21 they have is the .21rz-m there new ones dont have close to the amount of power as the rz-m. but i would not go for the rossio.i have a friend that used one and said it sucked. it had power but the back ballbearing tens to blow out!! (thats not a good thing
If you are looking for a fast and very good handling boat speedmaster modle products put out 2 very fast monos.
the new speedmaster and microburst.
they both reach 50+mph.

I'm running the Rossi Niagara in my Speedmaster 21. It's not a highly publicized engine like the MAC's or Nova Rossi's, but I'm very happy with it.

Ya the speedmaster is a great boat.
Have you clocked your boat?
With a MAC it does 55mph.
i think with the engine you have it does 40+
That is fast to.

The Niagara is a 40,000 RPM engine as rated by the factory. It is fast, how fast I don't know, it hasn't been on radar yet. The engine seems to get faster with every outing with over 1-1/2 gallons through it. The boat has done very well against the others this past season. With my son driving it at a race back in July, he lapped all but one boat in a heat and didn't lap the other one because he wasn't running at full throttle. The other boats may not have had a good needle that heat or some other problems, we know what it is capable of next season though. I got one heck of a deal on the engine so I paid a lot less that most peoples street price plus the header and pipe were thrown in free!

The best O.S on the market in .21 class is the VZ-M. But you have to make friends with me if you want one. They don't have a pilot shaft either. The OS .21s I have for sale are entry level engines. It isn't a putt putt engine though. My friend put one in his Aeromarine Challenger 31". It scoots along just fine. Boat handles mediocre though.

I thought I heard someone say O.S .46 VR-M. You have to go to a model engine museum to find one of those. In Japan right now, the Rossi Pirahna is the most popular .21 from Europe. They run really nice. They have and oval water jacket. Looks cool.

HH what's it take to be friends? Has anyone put one of those .21's in a 1/12 Miss Bud?

Ron, where did you see a .46 in a competitive 1/8th scale hydro? They normally have .67s, while the .46's are in the smaller sport 40s.
Backwoods, a .21 is too much for the lightly layed up Bud to handle without adding more layers of glass to the hull. Stick with a .15 to .18, as some of them will drop right in without changing anything else.

Thanks HJ. I think I will follow the advice of this and an earlier thread and go with a K&B .18 with a Prather 215. You advised a guy to go with " a larger skid fin with a kick back type bracket" on his Miss Bud. Can you offer more info on where to find? I have found two but they are small and one-piece rigid mounted. Thanks!

Have you tried Fuller's Fast Electrics yet?

Thanks HJ. I have a carbon fiber hydro fin on the way. I have my Miss B running 36 MPH. I have moved a new battery pack up front of the fuel tank, shortened the pipe, custom lightweight engine mounts, a collection of octura props, sharpened and polished everything touching the water. I think 30+ out of the box was exaggerated JUST a little. My MissB ran 24 MPH out of the box using garmin GPS. Looks like I will be looking for my "next boat" real soon. Not enough MPH here. I'll be asking for recomendations soon! CAT vs. HYDRO?

36 mph, wow! That is pretty good for a Miss Bud. Have you already put in the K&B .18? How is the reliability compared to the Dynamite .15? How did the swap go? Thanks!

Still running the Dyn .15. I took a dremmel and done some work grinding and polishing inside the exhaust port and manifold and have 7 inches from tip of tuned pipe to the engine. The biggest result in speed came from moving a re-chargable battery pack in front of the fuel tank to lighten up the rear. Second was the octura prop, Y435 I think. I am torn between buying the .18 to get a few more MPH's, or putting that money toward my next boat. I want to join the 60MPH club! Saving my $'s for now.

To join the 60MPH club, plan on a sport 40 or 1/8th scale boat. I've seen both at over 70MPH:D
