bob,
did you look @ the post 'bout modding the miss bud? a guy emailed my about racing it, said he put a .21 in it and it flies!
ya might wanna just get a kickass .21 engine, hardware, tuned pipe, and prop for your miss bud............ i bet you could win a few w/ that.....what do you think?

Outrigger hydros are hard to set up correctly and not for a beginner. I don't know how experienced you are so it's hard to say. Tunnels are a good nitro boat to start with for a first racer, easy to build and set up. My first race boat was a 3.5 tunnel. Competitve speeds for the OB tunnels will be in the 40-50 MPH range, 60-75 MPH for a decent 3.5 'rigger in racing trim.
Where are you at in Michigan?

Hi Ron,I live in Alpena.I raced c stock hydro for 10 plus years but have no experiance with a fast rc boat.I had a bad crash and almost broke my neck so i decided to get into rc racing. Thanks for the info.

Wow! you're up there a ways aren't you! The closest race site for you would be in Saginaw which is about 140 miles for me. your experince with full-sized boats will come in handy. One guy that I run with used to race the big OB tunnels and is a marine mechanic.

big-time racing........cool!!
the guy who let's me build @ his shop told me there's an amatuer leaugue nearby, where guys race homemade tiny little hydros powered by riding lawnmower engines or small car engines that have been seriously suped up, they lay down inside and really fly....said he watched a race where a guy's boat blew up with him in it!!
emails on the way

Bob,

I've always prefered OB over riggers. If you want all out speed go with the riggers. The OB will provide good speed, easy clean up and easy set up. And you can modify them by adding a pipe if you need more speed. Also, the whole set up costs a lot less.
