Hi, I purchased a 30 inch cat off ebay. It is currently electric, with twin Kyosho Le mans 360st racing engines. It does about 20mph. It came with an ugly GREEN and PINK color theme and i am currently painting it... White bow flaming on to yellow, onto orange, and then onto red which continues until the stern. I have now decided i am going to convert it to NITRO. I hate the short runtime on the bats. This is where i need your help. I am going to purchase a T-Maxx drop in M-16 engine (.16). I will then buy the marine head for the engine. I need to find out where to get the head or maybe ill try to see if i can get it direclty from Megatech. That's all i would need to convert the M-16 to a marine engine correct. (Water cooling). I am planning on getting the accesories... Tank, Shaft coupler, Exhaust, and airfilter directly from traxxas (the nitro vee) If anyone know where to get engine mounts and have any suggestions on how i should rig up the setup please help! Thanks a lot!
Matt
P.S- I will send some picks of the boat as soon as i fix my digi camera.

You can probably get the engine mounts on towerhobbies or ebay or even yout LHS. I think you should probably put the engine mount in the boat and put the engine in it. I hope this is a good self-esteem booster!

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone no if the m-16 engine would suit this boat well if i put a marine head on it?

I am guessing that you got a Hurricane. Don't forget to fuel proof the inside of the hull before you get everything mounted. You should be able to use parts from Kyosho's nitro cat, the Heatwave. This one would have saved you a lot of hassle in the first place. BTW, boats don't need air filters.

Ok thanks. Do you know if i could use the m 16 t maxx engine in this boat, if i got a marine head for it from megatech?

I don't know if their water-cooled head will fit it or not. If you have enough air flowing or wish to cut a hole in the canopy, keep it air-cooled considering that it has a decent heat sink head. The boat motors do run in a cooler environment and aren't subject most of the time to a partially enclosed body.

matt,
here's a couple of things:
you dont need an air filter, but you do need a fuel filter
im assuming your ordering from tower, defenitely get a Sullivan flextank, they are cheap but well-made, and come with everything [4oz is the best size for a .16]
tuned pipe, header, collet, and flywheel are all gonna be a pain in the ass to get, all that can be found almost are .15s or .21s......i just went through this w/ my .18. however, i do know of a site w/ car pipes that will be the right size, and they are very decently priced. also, if you are planning to use a pressure-fitting for your fuel tank, im pretty sure these come with the fitting installed
like ron said, air-cool if you can. if the engine starts to get hot, the same site that has the pipes sells larger-finned heads that disperse head better, and they're cheaper and simpler than water cooling.

Hi i was just wondering if i need a water cooled header or one of those pressurized ones. Or can i just use like a stock t-maxx one and connect it to the nitro vee exhaust. Please help! thanks

You don't want to use a water-cooled header, they need heat to operate right, it's a kinetic energy thing. You do need a pressure fitting for the fuel tank attached to the tuned pipe. The T-Maxx one is usable if you're on a budget. BTW, you're missing out on a Heatwave up for bid now on eBay.

Hey Matt! Check out my .21s that I have in the for sale forum.
I think it will be good for your application.

hammer!!
didnt know ya had a username here.......... 'bout those engines:
a couple of other guys have been looking for a .21, i tried to tip 'em off bout youy motherlode of OS .21s, but i guess one guy having 70 of them new was kinda hard to buy!! [no replies]
matt:
my advice [if you stick to a .16] is to find a standard, plain header [no water cooling, etc] and hook it up to a .12 to .18-size car pipe [i can give you a link]....i think they might come w/ pre-formed pressure fittings for your exhaust. that site also has some goodies for .16 sized engines. might wanna check 'em out.
for now, i would stick to the air-cooled head and make sure to stick it out in the flow, dont hide it behind anything or inside the hull...if it starts overheating get a water-cooled head.
