A brushless motor is exactly what it's name implies. A motor without brushes.
A brushless motor works by having stationary windings and a revolving magnetic core. The motor is very simple. The speed control that runs the motor is where the complexity is.
In simple terms, the speed control sends a signal to each of the windings in the motor and this creates a magnetic field that reacts with the core and turns it.
A good place to learn about brushles motors is on the Rum Runner site.
