i have a been into rc cars for about 2 years now, and i have recently noticed that there are 20million different nitro monsters. I have a rc on-road touring with the works but i really want to bash around scare dogs with a huge monster truck "nitro beast". I really want a kyosho mad force but $450 is alot of money for a 14 year old so i leaning towards a monster pirate $360 at ace-hobbies or a terra crusher which is $350 at hobby people. i like the t-maxx but i think its yesterdays news. so if ne body has info or opinons on these trucks please post a word or two. thanks
ps. tower says that the monster pirtae is 16.5 inches long but its looks a lot bigger can somebody with on take a measurement for me and post it:)
The MP might be a bit much for a 14 year old guy financially. Though i am sure you could handle it, you would probably have more fun with a T-Maxx 2.5 or a TC! There reason being that those huge MP tires put lots of stress on the suspension which equals broken parts! The best mod here is to pick up some dominator wheels and tires ($$$) Also, on the older MP's (not sure if this changed...it did for the dominator) the front shocks and shock tower were too short! The only fix was to install the rear tower and rear shocks in the front as well($$$).
BTW, I own two MP's, one of which had an air leak from the carb and a inproper sealing tank right out of the box. The other was perfect. I also own a T-Maxx 2.5 and an original T-Maxx, both arrived in perfect shape!

Jeel You may of had bad look with your MP's but your statement couldn't be any further away from the truth!!!! Geuss how much i've spend on my Dominator (Same truck more or less) on broken parts in 6 months?! HUH? NOTHING, Its all gone on upgrades because i've never broken it!. My mate bought a 2.5 Maxx and the second time he ran it he smashed up the bulkheads, bumper mounts, skidplate and it cost him a BIG chunk of cash. I couldn't even believe he'd broken so much stuff, he barely hit the thing! I've done that like 5-10 times with my Dominator and as i've said, broke nothing.
This said i am still impressed by the 2.5 Engine, Its fast alright... Faster than a MP for sure but faster than a Dom? No... The main difference between the two is the fact that the Dom has so much more POWER than the 2.5, The 2.5 is a top end screamer and not a stump pulling powerhouse like the MP is. You should also be able to get a MP Pre-Bult w/Engine w/o Radio for $250, Just shop around. Ace-Hobbies had them for $225 but i think they've sold out, Can't do any harm to give them a call and ask.
Anyone who has had a T-Maxx and Progressed onto a MP or Dominator will tell you that the Maxxes are Money Pits, plain and simple. Put it this way if you will.... You could turn a MP into a fantastic, very fast, very durable, VERY good handling, very track competent, all terrain killing MT for QUATER of the price it'd take for you to get a T-Maxx anywhere near the same level.
The T-Maxx 2.5 is 10x better than the first one, but its still a T-Maxx.... Its still a complicated design which means more things to go crack when you hit something, The MP is nimble, simple, very strong with more than enough power and Speed than you want.
BTW, JEEL.... You are quite right about the MP Tyres putting stress on the suspension components, still not enough to not call the truck 'a tank' if you know what i mean, Your also quite right about the front shock tower but its very cheap to fix and its not a 'MUST DO OR YOUR MP IS TRASH' mod, Don't be stupid.
The MP i am geussing is 20-21" long, my Dominator is 19" w/Maxx Mashers so i think its safe to say you can add another inch at least with the MP Tyres to its length.
Check out the MP & Dominator threads in Nitro Monster Trucks, you'll see that no one has a bad thing to say about them!.

Just seen your reply RS4-3, I have raced a Savage with my Dominator... the Savage is VERY impressive, looks very strong, good design, good quality but it still was no where near the speed of my single speed Dominator and didn't handle half as well, and after just selling my Nitro MT made by HPI i doubt i'l ever own one of there trucks again, Parts are too expensive, so are hop-ups.
Just my 0.2
Calm down Fezzy!!!! You make it sound like I hate my MP's...I don't. I am just saying that for a 14 year old on a budget who is just looking for a basher, the MP might be a bit much.
Also, you are comparing your Dom to an MP. "MORE OR LESS" EQUATES TO $150 BUCKS...WHEELS, TIRES, SLIPPER, SHOCKS, FRONT SHOCK TOWER,ETC. Let's be honest, the Dom stock is a much better truck than the MP stock...plain and simple.
I find it hard to believe that a T-Maxx can suffer so much damage while a Dom or MP can just walk away. We are talking about RC trucks right? Let's not stretch the truth!
Lastly, please refrain from calling me STUPID. One's opinion should never be judged in such a manner...we are both just offering advice! I have just completed my second Bachelors degree (Finance and Management Information Systems) and I am working on my MBA. Thanks.

what you got against MP wheels?? yea they put stress on train, but its monster truck, not touring car, that it needs small tires, look at TXT-1 or Mad force, it got big tires, ill say i like MP very much for the construction, and for wheels, i dont have one, but i would like to, or just its tires, for my small kyosho ram,

I find it hard to believe that a T-Maxx can suffer so much damage while a Dom or MP can just walk away. We are talking about RC trucks right? Let's not stretch the truth! Well believe it. RPM even said the bulkheads were a weakspot on the T-Maxx. Nothing comes close to 1/8 Truggy strength except 1/8 Buggies, but that's only because they originate from it. Even people who spend $1,000+ on full SuperMaxx upgrades break parts every time they run. Nothing needs to be changed on a Dominator to be strong. The T-Maxx needs at least aluminum bulkheads and aluminum chassis braces along w/ Ti. skids. :D Plus, the Dom. beats it in practically every category. Even though it's more expensive at the startup, you don't need to buy anything after that. ;)

i think that i am leaning towards a mp, its seems bigger, has the low torque that monster truck should have, and a .21. i plan on finding a place to race; is the mp raceable. and by the way money is not an issue my parents will pay for ne thing under 400 i have the rest i also work and make about 100 a week so i think i well set for now. ne ways thats for the input keep it coming

I second the replay from rs4-3....the Savage is a great MT! I've had mine for a week, and I'm very impressed with it....the TVP (Twin Vertical Plate) design of the chassis is genius...doesn't flex at all! And the .21 engine does make it pretty fast, and it has some really great torque!
Oh, and can anyone else say....'7 INCHES OF SHOCK TRAVEL!?':D:p ;)
Ah can anyone say 7" shocks doesn't equal 7" of travel. Yep. Ah can anyone say 7" of plastic. Yep.:D
