My truck is running (finally) and its upstairs outside running. I was told by the instructions to let it run through 3 tanks of fuel before opening up the throttle and using it.

I have noticed a few things first off I cannot get it to idle without turning its wheels. If you pick it up the wheels start going faster and faster, and if its not propped up in place it slowly rolls away.

I lowered the idle RPM and the engine dies abruptly after starting. I also noticed the RPMs as its idle hopping around a bit.

This is my FIRST run on the first tank, am I suppose to let it just run till it runs out of fuel?

And will it idle better after running through the break in?

I have a Kyosho Mad Force and its my first nitro car/truck ever built.

Thanks for any advice to make this go more smoothly, or atleast give me a peice of mind.

Follow the instructions first and formost !!!

Set the carb. mixture screws per manual.

Try to just let it idle the first few tanks of fuel. Ritchen main or upper jet a little, 1/8 turn at a time.

Be patient , only part throttle after 2 tanks of fuel idleing

no full throttle until 5 or 6 tanks are burned.

Take your time it will be worth it !!!!!!!!!!!

Is it normal to run out of fuel even if the tank isnt empty?

There is about 3/4 of an inch left and it kicked off on its own when idleing?

It said to open the mixture valve three turns from closed. Then increase after a few tanks a little till it gets to about 2 1/2 turns from, closed....

One problem I am still having is the IDLE RPM and it wanting to go when standing still. Will it have an easier time at lower idle speeds after the break in?

ALSO after it got real HOT and then cooled to about 35 degrees and I tried to start it and it took forever (15 pulls) is this because it got to cold?

THANKS ALOT!

this is all break-in woes. after you complete the break-in it should be running great. don't worry right now about the idle, i would set it all back to out-of-the-box needle settings. then after 3 or 4 tanks it should need a little tuning. ;)

I'm currently breaking in an Ofna 8 Port Hyper .21 engine for my Savage. Ofna says to heat cycle the engine 3 times on a stand prior to running the truck on the ground. Heat cycle meaning , to let it idle on a stand for about 3 minutes with the wheels spinning slowly. Shut off the engine and let it cool with the piston at BOTTOM DEAD CENTER. Once it's cool, restart it and repeat the same cycle. This will allow the piston and sleeve to seat while still preserving the tight tapered fit at TOP DEAD CENTER. Im in the middle of my second cooling cycle and so far, the truck has started after ONE PULL. Prior to starting this heat cycle technique, I had one hell of a time getting the engine running.....now everything seems okay. I'm gonna heat cycle the engine untill I run one tank...then I take if for a break in spin through 4-5 tanks tomorrow! Damn this engine has a grip load of compression...evident by the bandages around my pull starting hand's fingers. BTW, the needle settings are sooo rich, that I have to keep the glow heater on the plug for at least a minute after it's started otherwise it'll bog down. oh yeah, I'm also using a sacrificial hot glow plug (MC59) during the break in cycle....keeps the engine running through all the richness
