I am getting a Schumacher Cougar 2000 for xmas and just wondering whether it is a good competitive beginners car because I am planning to start racing next year.

Is it a 4wd buggy? If it is, those used to be the hottest 4wd out!!

It's a 2wd buggy - should still be ok to run in 2wd offroad, but no good onroad, and slower than 4wd offroaders.

I should be faster than most 4wd buggies except for maybe the xxx4 losi because it is apparently a very efficent belt driven - fastest 4wd belt driven buggy, so stock for this car isn't slow.
schumacher makes good cars. heard nothing bad cept for some part support in ca/us because it is based in uk.
all their cars handle great.

Thanks for your comments, yes it is a 2wd and a few years old but I am new to R/C cars and was hoping I could still use this car as an introduction to racing.(The guy who owned it previously modified it quite heavily...Carbon fibre, uprated motor e.t.c.)

Radical Rustler, you're wrong. It's not a Cat 2000 but a Cougar 2000, so it's a 2WD and no belts in it. The first cougar (I and II) used to have a belt driven drive train, but with the Cougar 2000 they changed their mind, because Stealth like transmission are more reliable, easier for maintaining and have a better efficiency.

I had a Cougar 2000, it was a really good car, I raced successfully with it. The chassis is very stiff and the suspension is good, but the shocks aren't that good. Schumacher shocks sucks unless you make them full options, thus they will cost you the price of Asso ones. So I recommend, as soon as you can, to buy Asso shocks, and you'll have a very good car...

But I must tell you that this car has a lot of settings available, so you'll have to find the right ones. It's a bit long, and if you're newbie it's not very easy, but on schumacher's web site, you'll find some settings sheets that will help you.

I was very happy with this car, I should not have sold it !

Thanks,
That is very helpful. From what I have heard it is a very good car and I am very pleased I bought it from what I have heard.
Cheers,
Josh

I wasn't talking bout the cat, i was talking bout the losi xxx4. I should have been more specific. I knew that the cougar was 2wd. Thats all i will get, because then you can buy extra trannies to make the 4wd or 6wd.
