Hello Mike,
It's been a long time since I've seen you hear on the Board. Glad to see you again.
Boy!!! I press the right buttons (yours) this time, will this will be my warm up, until Dave Robellen's new airplane is available.
Mike, I have been eyeing this plane for a long time, and now, that I successfully converted H.O.B Mustang, I thought, I would try the Carl Goldberg Super Chipmunk. I will definitely let you know how this airplane goes into it's constructions.
Yours,
Antonio.
P.S How's the building, from the plans that I sent you, are you having fun with it? Let me (us) know, and post pic. as well. I have been flying my friends Jellybean. I'm 45% w/ mine. Slowly, but surely..
Here's the first mod: Saving weight.
I took took out the (or cut away) the balsa sheet, from the first bulk head all the way to the motor mount.

2NG,
Man, can you get going or what! Seems like I just heard from you yesterday that you had the Chippie, and you are half way finished with it. Are you sleeping now?
Great start! What did you use to cut the lightening holes? I'm always interested in them. I have not made any yet, but the time is close.
Can't wait to see the covering.
Roger

Hi Mike!!
Hello RC,
Fred just emailed me about having a camera handy while working, hehehehehehe... I know you reminded me of that too:D
Anyways, I was working a little on it tonight, climb up stairs to fetch my camera, but the warmth of the cozy room made me lazy to go down to the garage and work.
I manage to get the wings together (I usually build the wings first) made couple of mod. Same mod. as I did with the Mustang. The lighting holes will be added last. I am planning to add lot's of hole, but not too much, still measuring ways to make the holes, but keep the planes strength, and durability.
This plane is said to be a 4ch. plane, but the plan called for two. I'm still trying to figure out a way to add a rudder in one of it's function. I think, I found a way, by a use of a pole, pole links.
I will have pics. tomorrow.:)

2NG,
I understand about getting cold. You need to be careful in that garage. Be aware of any heat that might be left on so if you come up and warm up and fall asleep, that there is no danger of fire.
Pics - good light, make a bunch and then throw out the ones that don't look good. I love digital cameras and pictures. Push that button often because there is no developing! :) :)
Take Care,
Roger
Progress pics.
I finally got the motor mount configured. I got this idea from Jim Best, I thought it was gonna be hard, but as I was in a flow of things. Wow!! It was easy as 1,2,3 TKO..
On my previous conversion. H.O.B P-51 Mustang, I was using HL Nylon 400/480 Motor mount, I don't think there will be any significant difference between the two, and I don't think weight will be a problem.
Motor mount.
*I laminated two 400 round motor mount together, glued it to the stock ring and all three glue to the front end of the fuse. Angled per plan to achieve the needed thrust.
*Stock triangle balsa is position in place to help secure the motor.
(Bare w/ me guys, I'm practicing writing construction reviews):D
Now the best part of all:) I'm really satisfied with this configuration. This is the first time I actually attempted configuring a motor mount like this, before I would just cheat and screw on my mount:D
Mega Resting in it's new home;)
The only thing that get's me is the motor mount. This could be my record breaking construction:D. I am done. Your looking at this plane now, and asking yourself of why, I clamed it to be finished. Why? Because the "MONKEY is off my back" , now all I have to deal with is this Chipmunk-E:D (Forgot to hire two pilots to fly this plane:( )
----P.S. Cold, cold, and raining.

2NG,
That mount is looking nice.
Help me to understand, the motor is actually mounted via the plate at the front, and the wood along the sides is for support. Right?
That is going to be a neat plane! Nice looking wing. Looks like the top of the fuselage is pre built! I like that!
Roger
***Help me to understand, the motor is actually mounted via the plate at the front, and the wood along the sides is for support. Right?***
Hello RC,
Yes, the inner ring that secures the motor, when the motor is screwed in place is glued to the inner side of the fuselage, and the outer ring, that was laminated prior to motor mount assembly. Is glued to the outer side of the fuselage, and the triangle balsa is then fitted to secure both rings for extra strength and locks the two rings in place.
AG.
PS---- I will try to get as much done. I am bed bound right now. I am sick as a dog:(

Hello Mike,
I am lagging on the construction, I'm busy doing other peoples JB:( after seing my friends JB in flight, now they all want one:).
I should have one out soon, I am also converting a 3D plane, called the KomaFun:)
I will paint the pilots tonight, I am a cover away to finishing this airplane:D
yours,
Antonio.
PS. You have a soft heart for this plane aren't you? I'll sell it to you:)
Hello all, Hey Mike.:)
My progress report:
Guys, I am not satisfied with the construction of the top deck, I was rushing, I did not properly aligned the plastic deck, and now I have a 1/8 gap along the side of the fuselage:D it's okay, I still have room to adjust things or come up with an idea to hide this flaw:)

Dear Antonio - Very nice looking Chipmunk! I am very glad to see that it would appear that you are still with us in this "forum"! After your apologies for your "Mauian English" - I can't see where there is a problem - none of us have ever had difficulty understanding your wonderfully informative posts! After a beer or two I came up with the idea that you and I could communicate in Polynesian dialects - unfortunately if your Hawaiian vocabulary is as limited as is my Maori, we are probably going to be fairly silent partners! Keep up the good work. Cheers, Phil
Doctor Phil.
Hello, I don't think, they want me to leave:) Mike sent me an email to stay:) and others.
I remember, when I first started getting into "E-flight" You posted lot's a pictures of your airplanes, that inspired me, and Dave Robelen autogharped, of backyard flyer, that pushed me to build all these airplanes.
There are times, that I don't marching to the cadence as everyone else, or playing the same tune...... Hehehehe.. I have my own band...LOL!!!
****After a beer or two I came up with the idea that you and I could communicate in Polynesian dialects - unfortunately if your Hawaiian vocabulary is as limited as is my Maori, we are probably going to be fairly silent partners! ****
hehehehehe...... I don't think so, I think we will both enjoy it. My Poly. is limited as well.
My Grandfather (Dad's side) got on a boat from the Philippines bound to the USA. He did not have a clue where he was going, he was only 16 at the time. Landed in Hawaii and worked on the pineapple plantation, serve WW II and became a citizen.
Mom side is from the Philippines. Dad and Mom, meet, when they where working for the Military. Dad (USMC) Mom (Army) Nurse. 73' Antonio Came into this world:D (My Chinese animal is an Ox)... I know how to speak three different languages. Thai, Filipino, a little Chinese. I can understand some Poly.:)
****we are probably going to be fairly silent partners! ****
I work with sport, car related injuries or accidents. I'm a Muscular evaluator, I deal w/ people all day.. I am no where silent:D
Wow!!! That sounded like blind date line application. hehehehehehehe....LOL...
-- Sir Phil. I thank you for the kind words:)

Hi Antonio,
That's a really neat looking model The Chipmunk is on my "must build" list, but not neccessarily at the top at the moment. Take care of this one, and let us know how she flies.

Hell Dave, Mike and my fellow conversionist:)
I am really happy how this plane turned out, with it's power combo (Mega 5T, glow prop. 7x4, Hecells) she proved to me that she is a performer. Nice climbing capability, but what got my attention is who she can hold a stead dive and perfectly hold it until you tell her to climb. Boy! She comes down hot, remarkably awesome:) Vertical climb, perfect. She's my kind of airplane.
The touch and go is awesome. 12 flights. I got from this plane this weekend. Guys will be hanging up in my wall of keepers.
