Is there any special equipment used when hovering

Hi,
Start with a very powerful engine with superb throttle response, mount this on a light airframe with generous controls that have very rapid servos, and add a rate gyro to the rudder. Then plan on using quite a bit of fuel practicing.

Once you have a good thrust to weight ratio (I like at least 1-1/2 to 1), you need powerful ailerons that extend well inboard into the propwash, to control roll while hovering, unless you want to do only torque roll. I like to hover perfectly stationary, and, to get this, I use full-span ailerons, often with increased chord in their inboard one-quarter or so. Powerful ailerons can completely cancel engine torque, simply by deflecting the propwash. If the ailerons are wide enough, with lots of travel, you can roll against the engine torque. When I lose it in hover, it is usually in pitch. Dual rate elevators are very helpful here - with high rate used for extreme stuff like hovering and Lomcovaks.
Cheers
