I just wanted to post this since i am so excited about racing. K-ville Hobby races in Kernersville NC on Sunday afternoons at 1pm in the old K-mart parking lot in Kernersville (we have permission). We have about 10 cars so far. Gas and electric 1/10 welcome. Bring your t-max etc. We race until 5 if weather permits. Primarily adults so far, everyone wlecome. My real car is a white Corvette, introduce yourself if you see me there. I am Brian.

Is this one near Flow BMW? (Not sure which K-marts closed in the area) Or the one down University(?). I know there is another one somewhere. Don't need to know this stuff till I get my rl car in March.

There was actually a Kmart in Kernersville. It's on Main Street near Chik-filet and Wal-mart and it's directly behind the Blockbuster in the very back of the lot.

We raced last week. We had 13 cars 7electric/5gas.

Burr. Raced last Sunday. We had about 20 cars about 5ele and 5gas running though.

let me know when you get something organized. i have a roar sanctioned track certification for the triad " triad on road racers association" check it out under www.roar-racing.com, click on region 3 and it's last. but i never could find the asphalt good enough to run on. also i have a rc web site for nc, va & sc in off road and on road. www.ncorra.com. i will list you when you get this thing going. thanks, bill mciver

Do you guys have a lap counter? What kind of organized races are you running? Oval or touring ?

BrianCio
02-25-2003, 03:45 PM
2/23 No races today due to the wind.

We don't have a lap counter and have no rhyme or reason to our racing. We just go out there and race around the pcv pipe track that they set up in the afternoon. Mostly touring cars. About an even split between gas and electric. If your car is running when they start the race you are in it.

Hey all.

I am in Oak Ridge.

There is a new hobby shop in Greensboro on High Point road. (Across from Toys R Us, near good-will)

They are working on an off-road track that is to open sometime this month.

The track is off Vandalia, near I-85. (Used to be a Golf driving range)

Maybe I'll swing into K-Ville tomorrow and see if you all are there!

4/6 We got a new track this week. It's a 2 inch PCV piping. Took a beating to my TC3. Low turn out this week. 4 electrics and about 5 gas cars.

You are more than welcome to stop by. The racing is usually pretty good. I am losing ground fast. My 19 turn won't hold it with the gas cars and the 10 turns, its' still fun as long as it continues to run decent.

jkieffer72
04-07-2003, 06:34 PM
I won't be able to be there for the next two weeks.

Hopefully I can be there the weekend of the 27th.

How do you all handle frequency conflicts? I have only 1 set of crystals. With that many people I'd bet someone would be on my frequency!

Does the hobby shop there in K-ville sell crystals?

JK

BrianCio
04-15-2003, 08:58 AM
4/13 We were in Williamsburg. I don't know if they raced.

When we get there the hobby shop owner has a log of all the frequencies. I have only had one week that someone was on my channel. Most the guys there have more than one set of crystals. The hobby shop does sell crystals, no problem.

4/20 Easter Sunday, no racing.

It has been nice to be able to have enough people to enjoy racing together. We have only been doing it for as long as this thread has been up. Hopefully we can continue through the year. We are 1 hour 5 minutes away from Concord Mills for reference.

BrianCio

5/18 Rainy again. No racing.

Our track is onroad. It's no way worth the drive up from Lake Tillery. There is a new track off of 1-85 that I heard about that is off road and going to be awesome! It's affiliated with a Greensboro hobby shop. If I find out the name of it I will post it.

BrianCio
06-02-2003, 03:48 PM
6/1 Small turnout for the weather. Only about 8 cars total and it was even 75 degrees and sunny. I got pretty bored and stayed for only 45 minutes.

6/8 First time for everything. 2 weeks of rain caught up with me and I just had too much to do on Sunday so I missed my first Sunday racing in 6 months. It was 80 degrees and sunny. My car has a broken axle so I couldn't have been competitve.

06-16-2003, 07:17 PM
I finally made it out. Had a big time! The weather was a little warm but the rain didn't roll in until about 4:30. Not sure how big the usual crowd is. I would say about 10? people showed up. I had never run with other folks so this was a lot of fun. I will definitely be coming back!

Matt

BrianCio

6/22 Good day for racing. The gassers were doing runs across the lot and we had some pretty consistant racing on the track. A broken A arm put me out of comission after about 1.5 hours. I will be back next week probably from 1-3 pm.

mch
06-24-2003, 06:31 PM
Yup, it was a great day for racing. I should have worn some sunscreen but other than that it was great. Mike and his K-Ville Hobbies crew cooked up some hot dogs and fed the hungry ones. We had some pretty good racing late in the day. I won't be able to make it the next 2 weeks but I will hopefully be there in 3 weeks.
If you live in this part of NC you need to come check this out! I will be there every chance I get. It is about a 40 minute drive for me and it is definitely worth it. BTW I live in Browns Summit anybody else up in my neck of the woods?
Hoping we get enough regulars to start showing up that we can get a little organized racing going on. That way I will know how bad I really am at this stuff. But it will still be a bunch of fun.
Brian, I think I know who you are now. You have an electric TC3 right? I was driving the Purple ofna nitro ob-4.

Matt

BrianCio
06-25-2003, 02:16 PM
Yes, my electric TC3 is my only ride. I think that I commented on your car, you stay on the track a lot! Your real car is a Subaru Legacy or Outback? Yes, I do remember you well. I will be there... Just about every Sunday between now and 7-31. I really like my TC3 but the batteries kill me, and the track takes a big tole on my car. It's a lot of fun though. See you on 7-13 or 7-20 !!

BrianCio
06-30-2003, 08:51 AM
6/29 Good day at the track. I had my TC3 and then my new Rustler and T-maxx out there. Still trying to figure out how to drive them all at the same time. The TC3 was sick so I flew my plane around. We had about 20 cars total but not much on track racing. A couple trips to K-ville Hobby and I should be ready for next Sunday.

I am thinking about getting a Mini Z or possibly a HPI micro RS4. I am wondering if anyone races micros around here. I thought you guys might be able to help me out. Thanks!

BrianCio
07-02-2003, 09:04 AM
CDeath- I think that most of the 1/18 scale cars run south of us. If you call KC Hobby in Archdale thay can direct you to a track for the mini cars. I am hooked on the 1/10 scale and that is really all that we run at this track. There are a few 1/8 scale but 95% is 1/10. It's a great scale and they are pretty easy to work on and I think that they are more stable and faster than the littler scale. Come by next Sunday and check our track out. You may get hooked on the 1/10 scale. Enjoy.

BrianCio
07-07-2003, 10:41 AM
7/6 Pretty small turnout and very little racing. I stayed for a hour and a half and there was one other car on the track up to that point. There were about 10 cars total but mostly people just hanging out this week.

mch
07-13-2003, 10:08 PM
cdeath - I am building a micro rs4 to play with at the house. I have heard they race them somewhere in Mebane but not sure exactly where.

Small turnout today. I guess about 10-15 cars total. I'd say 5 on the track at a time was the most I saw. Had some pretty good racing happening towards late afternoon. Track was pretty slick in spots and it took some of us a while to sort that out. It cooled down during the afternoon and that seemed to help traction.
I trashed two exhaust pipes today, got to learn to keep it between the pvc pipes without hitting them! Nothing a little JB Weld can't fix.
If anybody in the area is reading this thread you definitely ought to come on out and check it out. It is a great bunch of folks and a lot of fun.
Thanks to all the folks at K-ville Hobby for setting this up every Sunday. Go there and buy something! Support your local hobby shop!

Matt

BrianCio
07-14-2003, 08:57 AM
I totally agree with Matt. The LHS is an asset to a community. We were at the beach this weekend but I will be there this weekend if I can get the TC3's front end spinning again. Yes, the PCV pipes are really tough on a car I do agree!

mch
07-14-2003, 10:52 PM
The pipes are only hard on your car if you hit them. I so look forward to the day when I can drive consistently. It seems like you get a rhythm going and all of a sudden wham! it falls apart. If it were easy it wouldn't be near as fun, or expensive.
I won't be out this Sunday, got other stuff happening, but I plan on being out there on the 27th. I sure would like to see some other folks out there running and on this board. Is there anybody out there besides Brian and me?

matt

BrianCio
07-21-2003, 08:44 AM
7/20 We had about 5 cars in the lot and I had stayed for about an hour and I was the only one that even touched the track.

I am going to Archdale today and try to see if they have the parts to fix the TC3. I think that my days with the PCV pipe track is numbered. I am getting pretty frustrated with a retaining wall that doesn't give and a car that does.

Matt- It's just you and me here. I don't understand why but, our crowd is getting smaller on Sunday and it is just such a blast to race! I will be there on Sunday for a little while. I don't know if the car will be fixed or not but I have to pick up my airplane and Mike might have it done by then. I will probably be there from 1 to 3 pm.

BrianCio
07-29-2003, 02:42 PM
7/27 Stayed for about 15 minutes b/c of a death in the family. There were 10 cars there total. All the regular guys and one other. No racing at all in the 15 that I was there. I have to pick up my plane next weekend and the TC3 is now back to 100%

BrianCio
08-04-2003, 09:11 AM
8/3 More than normal at the track yesterday, probably about 15 people. Nice day and it looked like there was some pretty good racing going on. TC3 was out again.

mch
08-04-2003, 07:31 PM
Looked like a great afternoon of racing was shaping up when I got called in to work and didn't get back out to run. Oh well. I won't be out this weekend but I do plan on being out on the 17th. At least I don't have to worry about fixing or cleaning it since I never got a drop of fuel in it before the phone rang yesterday. At least I got to run my new electric a couple of minutes. Good seeing you Brian, try not to break the TC3 before the 17th ;).

8/10 We had a pretty good turn out. I got there by 2 and there were about 6 car on track racing. I kept up with the guys for about 7 laps until I clipped a wall and tore off the front wheel, A arm etc. After that I flew the plane for a little and left for home. Looked like a good day for some racing.

BrianCio
08-18-2003, 08:38 AM
8/17 We had about 10 cars out total. I saw 3 cars at the most on the track. I made 3 circuits and rebroke the A arm that I JB welded together. I am pretty much done racing the gas cars. I just can't drive all out all the time just to keep up. Mike and I flew the planes and that was fun. Until next week.

8/24 I was only up there for about 10 minutes yesterday. Looked like a good crowd. We drove back by around 7 and they we just then packing up.

Bricklin - Glad you enjoyed it. I think with a few more consistant drivers it would be a great place to race. I have had it with the track itself, the PCV pipe is very unforgiving. I have gone though 5 A arms, 3 dog bones and a few anchoring pieces. There is a front bumper extender that I am going to try just to save the front end of the car.

I plan on being out there this Sunday. Sure have missed running the last several weeks but it has just been one thing or another.

Brian, don't give up on the track! You said a few posts back that you can't drive all out all the time just to keep up. Don't worry too much about keeping up. Just concentrate on finding the line, driving smooth and being consistent. If someone goes by you, try to stick with them for a while. Don't worry about passing them just follow them for a while and pay attention to how they are driving the course. For that matter just spectate and watch the better drivers and see the line they follow. I think you can pay more attention if you don't have to worry about driving. I know it is hard to not race with everyone, I have the same problem. Sometimes it seems like all I do is crash from one turn to the next and there are other times when you find a rhythm and it seems like the car is on rails. I guess what I am trying to say is slow down just a little bit and keep it between the PVC, you might be surprised what that can do for your driving (and your wallet).

Hi Bill, glad to see another body on here. Look forward to meeting you out there some time, coming out this Sunday?. Are you from the area?

Bummer. The first rain out for the K-ville Hobby Sunday afternon crew. I got there around 1:30 pm and the bottom just fell out then the thunder and lightning show began. Disappointing, to say the least.
Hope the weather is good next week, I haven't run in several weeks.

Fixed the arm I busted last week with some JB weld. Don't have a lot of faith it will hold. Going by K-ville hobby tomorrow, hopefully Mike got my parts in but if he didn't and the JB weld doesn't hold I can work on the setup on the new electric. I have been meaning to take some pics the last several weeks I just spend all my time practicing.
Last week was a great one. The 1/4 scale cars that were out were pretty cool. Thanks to Noel and Frog for letting us check them out and hopefully we will see them again this week. Noel was very helpful if you needed some help setting up your car. He had some advice for me that really helped me out. He was working with several of the other drivers with their cars also.
Mike swears he is going to pin the pvc pipe together this week, I sure hope he does because that is what is tearing my car and several others up, the ends of the seperated pipes are VERY unforgiving. I am going to try to get out there around noon to help them setup this week. All we need to do is drill some holes in the pipe and drop a nail in the holes to hold them together. If anyone has a better idea let's hear it!

Another good turnout. I broke another lower arm. Lots of really good practice time.

There was some real good driving going on this weekend. We had several times where we had 7 or 8 cars on the track at once. I feel I am getting better every week but, I need to learn to keep it under control enough to stay off the walls. I just get too wrapped up in going fast instead of being consistent! Practice, practice, practice... then go practice some more.

COOL STUFF HERE: Late in the afternoon a couple of folks from UPN 48 TV stumbled across us and were very interested in what we do out there. They said they will be out next Sunday around noon to shoot some video and do a story! I hope they make it. Noon is a little earlier than most of us show up usually but I for one am going to try to be out there before noon and help set up the track.

I went to the shop last night and Mike and Cindy said that they were going to have a tv group there to film what fun we have. Why they are coming at 12 instead of 1 I don't know but, I may just get there straight from church and try to help set up. More importantly, I am not even going to run my car at all between now and Sunday so that I know it will actually run!

Had a great day out there today. Lots of folks came out and we had some good racing going on. The guys from RC-Extreme seemed to have a good time, glad they made it and look forward to seeing them again. They run on Saturdays at their shop in Clemmons. That's a pretty long haul for me but I will try to get over there some Saturday and check them out.
Finally getting my car setup. It makes all the difference in the world! Now if only I could drive...
If we can consistently get that number of people out we will have to get some structured racing going on. Whats a lap counter system go for?
Good meeting you and Will today, Bill. Look forward to seeing you guys again when you get the chance. Good luck in your racing!
You are right about the helicopter. I think he had done it before.

a amb lap counting system is $1500-2000 for the analog dos system. a amb rc system that runs regular digital and personal transponders is $4041 plus shipping. the autoscore lap counting software is $500-900. i have a new loop and the software but no counting system. i think the most immediate need for the club is some more pipe to make the track larger and to make for different layouts every week. the ohio on road track in hamilton, ohio above cincinnati is 269 x 72. now we don't need one that big by any means. the rc speedway in durham is 213 x 72 i think. but it is going to be cut in half. check out www.tfbraceway.com. that is a nice on road in atlanta.

mch
09-22-2003, 10:10 PM
I was just dreaming about the lap counter.
I agree about expanding the track some. I have thought changing the layout occasionally would be good. I haven't brought it up since I am a newcomer around there. I would definitely be willing to cough up a few bucks for some additional pipe.
I think you need to mix things up to keep people fresh and to continue to challenge them. One person can be fast one weekend and change the layout and someone else is likely to be the one to chase. I think it is also important to keep people from getting bored with the same old thing, they'll stop coming back when that happens.
Just my thoughts.

9/21 Great day. Matt and company - We used to switch the track up more. Back in Nov and Dec they had switched the design a few times but since the pipe is now 3 inch and not the 1 inch we started with its a lot less negotiable as far as design goes. We would have to sit there and cut new track as we went. It took a lot of time but with more and more showing up it might be with it. I would like to see organized races. I am tired of my electric trying to keep up with the gassers. I think that even if we had a 10 or 15 lap race every 30 minutes so that, on the top of the hour the gassers ran and at the bottom of the hour the electrics ran that would be cool. Outside of that everyone just runs at their own will. I don't want to be there for 4 hours and race 3 times, just not my cup of tea. A little organization would be fun. Back in the day we would just sit our cars at the start/finish line and just wait until others set their cars down until we felt we had enough to run.

The track would be cooler a little bigger (but more longer than bigger) the smallness develops skill in negotiating your way around the track. Anyone can just drive around in a huge circle, JMO. Also take into consideration that the track was designed so that electrics and gassers could be competitive together.

So, when did the camera crew finally show up? Who was it? WB, FOX, ABC ??? - Brian

Not sure when the TV (UPN 48) folks showed up. Around 2 o'clock maybe? The story aired Sunday night during the 10 pm news. It was OK. No mention of K-ville Hobbies or RC Xtreme hobby shop. It ran 2 minutes I think. I don't anticipate a lot of new people out to check us out because of it but what do I know? Any exposure like that is always welcome.
I think we could come up with a couple of variations of the existing layout without a whole lot of effort or expense. Once you get the pipe cut you just add a few turns and voila! new layout. Nothing wildly different, More turns would definitely help equalize the electrics. There is also the possibility of setting up a tighter track for those who want to do that. I talked to one of the guys from RC Xtreme about that. They run on Saturday nights in their parking lot in Clemmons on a smaller, tighter track and he brought up the possibility of setting up their track next to ours for a little variety. Don't know how serious he was but definitely intriguing, no? Of course, I don't have any way to haul 20' sections of PVC pipe so it is easy for me to come up with these ideas.

Matt.

I think that I want to check out their Saturday night races. I will have to catch up with one of them and see where their shop is. I would like to race another track just to change the scenery. I think that I might be at our races on Sunday if we are back from the beach.

I like your ideas about the track so far.

I wouldn't mind running on a different layout occasionally but, I'm not sure I want to have anything too organized. I'm with Brian. I don't want to spend all afternoon to run a handful of times. Maybe one sunday a month have some structured competition. We may be getting a little ahead of ourselves. Right now I just enjoying getting out every Sunday and running and hanging out. I am definitely interested in adding a turn or two to the current set up though.

Matt. Of course we are getting ahead of ourselves! That is the fun of it all. I agree, we should add or take out a turn once a week. Since they are out there all day, it would be worth the extra investment of time.

Thanks for the link to r/c xtreme. I need to know what time they race out there. I will probably make it over there in the next couple weeks.

I will be back racing 10/5.

Hi everyone. I've benn out there a couple of times in the last month and have really enjoyed watching the racing. Matt sorry about that turnbuckle on your STR-4. I just got the last of the stuff I need for my RS4 pro 3 so I'll be there with my own wheels this weekend. Nothing to bragg about just a 21 turn.......for now:D I'll probably be there a little early on the 28th to be sure I have everything in order since its been a year or more since I've raced. Hey guys this is Mike from R/C Xtreme. Not sure who all of you are yet, or what your RCZ user names are, But I'll figure that out soon enough. Had fun on Sunday (9/28) The on-board camera footage turned out great. I am working on a few clips that I am going to post on my website. Some of my driving was a little rough, but it makes for good footage :) Once I get the clips done, I will post a link to them here.

Hopefully we'll see some of you on Saturday night... weather permitting.

Got out there late last sunday and immediately found I had a mostly toothless belt and no spare for my ob4 so no nitro this week, just ran the electric a few times. Missed the video feed from the car, it sounded awesome from what Eric was telling me, especially the footage of the roll. Can't make it this saturday night but plan on it as soon as I can and will be in k-ville on sunday, weather permitting.

Mike, I am Brian my real car is a white Corvette and my r/c car is a purple Corvette. The nut doesn't fall far from the tree. What kind of turnout do you all have on Saturday nights? Your shop looks really nice. You gotta make a link to the clip, I have always wanted to know what the in car camera would look like.

Eric, I saw you out there 2 weeks ago. Were you driving a BMW or Stratus? If your car is electric we can run, I am in driving re-hab and I like running with the mute electrics.

Matt, I will catch up with you on Sunday more than likely. I should be there, we are painting the garage floor checkerboard on Saturday so as long as that goes good I will be there. Oh, and I have to get the Corvette out of the garage. I have to put a new starter on it and its still up on jacks. Sure that's more than you wanted to know. See ya'

Brian, We usually have between 10 an 15 cars out here. In the last few weeks, we have introduced quite a few new people into the world of R/C driving. With the weather getting a little cooler, out attendance will probably drop a little. We are working on scoring another lot that we can use... so maybe we can start a little earlier on Saturday evenings.

I have read this whole thread and someone mentioned setting up our track in addition to the K-Ville Hobby track on Sundays. That can be done, but being a fellow shop owner & friend, I don't want to step on the toes of the K-Ville guys. As I see it, Sunday is their day... let me know what you guys think.

Still working on the video clips... trying to get the file size a little smaller.

I definitely don't want anyone getting the wrong idea. I agree, it is K-ville hobbies afternoon and I am just there to run, well maybe a little socializing too.

Brian, painting the garage floor checkerboard huh? Way too much time on your hands. Just make sure the TC3 is ready to go first.

See everyone Sunday. Maybe Saturday night but more likely Sunday this week. Clemmons is a long way from where I live.

I was there Brian you parked right next to me. I believe I even put it on the track while you were there. I had to do the "clip dance" with that kid with the buggy. He just got a 3300 pack and would not get off the track until that thing was completly dead. I ran the Losi most of the (chasing the set up). but after it broke 2 left front hub carriers I parked it for my much more consistent and durable Pro 3. I have a XXX-S for sale or trade by the way!!!!:D Lots of fun though see you all next week.

Broke the Losi twice Eric? Maybe you ought to wait a wee bit longer on those left turns. Are you really going to sell it? It can't be that delicate, can it? Or is that just an excuse to get the nitro?
I really hated missing this week but stuff happened that changed my Sunday around.
The kid got a 3300 pack? Oh well, it's good practice dodging him. It's just that it seems to have a touring car magnet in it. He's just out there having fun like the rest of us. He'll probably be driving around us old guys before we know it.

See you Sunday.

LOL!!! That kid cracks me up so bad. He has to have a magnet in there somewhere, it just kills me. It's like if he tried, he couldn't get more in the way. I spent about 2 months Sunday after Sunday just racing him since he is just plug and play and always out there. I really try to be nice to him because his parents just don't care. It's just so hard, I am not good at sharing :)

Eric. Sorry I didn't acknowledge you. You had a table and you were working on one of your cars, it looked nitro?? Your real car is a hummm, I am stuck. A red Mirage? I don't know, I am dumb. Maybe that kid will buy your XXX off of you. That is one of the smoothest cars out there, I like the Losi. That would at least force him to learn how to go around the track as opposed to over it. Well, most of the time anyway.

Great weather today. About 20 drivers came out. Still waiting for a part for my fuel car. Tried running it as a 2wd but there was no traction to be found exiting the turns and I didn't want to mess with the setup so I ran electric. I did come out with the batteries charged this time. Last time I spent most of the time charging and not much time running. I went up a tooth on the pinion and that helped out the top end a little. There were only a couple other electrics running today but we still had a fun time. I need to get a hotter motor for sure, that 27 turn is ok but it sure takes a while for the end of the back straight to arrive!

Eric and Brian - you guys going to be out next weekend?

Matt, Sorry for the late reply... I haven't checked the forum in a while. We do have a micro track in the store. We are starting back up with the micros now that the weather is getting a little cooler. Here is a picture of the track... www.rcxtremes.com/html/images/Micro Track.jpg

Also, I wanted to let you guys know that we are getting together at about 1:00 on Saturdays to practice/race our touring cars. The night racing in our parking lot got a little crowded and we got some complaints from the neighbors. If you are familiar with our area, we got permission to use the lot beside Arby's in front of Lowes Foods. We are also in the process of assembling a new track out of wood 2x4s. This should help to keep us from chasing the track around the parking lot. The layout has also been redesigned and can be set up in 2 different layouts. The overall track dimentions are 90 feet long by 48 feet wide. Here is a basic layout diagram... www.rcxtremes.com/html/images/1-10 Tracks.jpg

We paln on being in K-Ville on Sunday.

It was a beautiful day.
Maybe 10-15 cars out there. Had some good running going on. Added a little jog at the end of the straight where it used to be a real tight 180 degree turn. It took a while to get the hang of it but it added a little bit to the course. It sure did scare you when you dozed off and forgot it was there! Both cars were working pretty good and came home in running condition. I am always happy when that happens.

Can you tell me how to get to your track off 40 business from Greensboro? I would like to get out and check it out. I have an electric TC3 that I play around with. Have not done any racing. Do you run classes? If so what are they? Are you still running Sundays at 1:00? Not sure how much I can get out this time of year but maybe more in the spring. THANKS …

BrianCio
11-04-2003, 10:23 AM
Jackstraw - Your TC3 will fit right in with mine. Business 40 and get off at the Main Street Kvegas exit. (From GSO) turn left at the light on to Main Street. When you get to the traffic light with Blockbuster on the corner make a right there. Keep going to the back of the parking lot and we will be there. Track is set up by 1 and most people get their stuff together and are running within an hour. I am there most every Sunday. Hope to see you out there. Oh, no classes, most of the electrics and gasers run on the track independently. I gave up racing the gassers (except Matt) I can keep up with the TC3 but it's too much concentrating for a Sunday afternoon. We all respect each others cars, I think that I have been wrecked intentionally once but I was stirring it up and probably deserved it. I think that last winter we probably had 6 weeks we didn't race because of being under 40 degrees and windy so, we are pretty much always there. Just drop a post when you are going to try to make it and Matt and I will make sure we keep an eye out.

Hey folks! Sorry I have been such a slacker in the reporting department. Hope everybody had a great holiday season!

Ran the last two weekends and the weather was excellent both weeks, just a bit windy this last weekend (1/4/2003). probably about 10-15 people showed up both weeks. Quite a few spectators at times too.

Some electric but a little more nitro action.

I think I may be selling my electric as I find it difficult to run nitro then turn around and then run electric. They are just two different animals and I really get tired of messing with batteries. It doesn't have the same adrenaline kick for me that fuel does. Of course, I am only running a 15 turn motor so it is going to seem tame by comparison. That and the fact that I got another nitro car (sorry Brian!;)) for Christmas I really won't have time for an electric. But until someone decides they want it worse than I do I will bring it out and run it with the electrics, if I remember to charge batteries before I head out that is.

Not sure what the weather has in store for this Sunday but if I am able(my on call week) I will be out there.

Once again, I apologize for my slackness in Brians absence and hope to see y'all Sunday.

is your electric car a tc3? these losi's are good cars , but they have very little re-sale value. on asphalt they're tough to beat. but on the carpet it's another story. plus (imo) the tc3 is a better stock racer. and the losi is KILLER in mod. but there are more racers (around here) that race stock than mod.

1/11 31 degrees at 1pm. Nobody there.

My electric is a Tc3. Love it. Matt, I can probably keep up with your gasser. I got a HPI nitro last week. It's used, its awesome but I would rather deal with batteries over that nitro fuel everywhere. The TC3 is almost at race level now. I bought new tires and do NOT like them. They are so slick. I guess i need Nitro Shoes or something. I also noticed that we need to move the track. The nitros leave such a residue, it would be nice to have a clean slate to use for this season.

will and i have been off road racing this winter so far and have not made it back to kville. just wanted you to know i have a amb 20 lap counting system now, that we are going to use at the stokesdale off road track and at our mini t track at our house.
if you want to plan a race this spring let me know and i will lend you the lap counter , computer, printer. i'm working on a pa system right now. we will have a tweak race at stokesdale soon and then if i know there are no bugs in the system you are free to use it. it will pick up personal transponders( just one number instead of 7) but i have 20 club transponders and that should be enough.
if you want to use the system, you will need to build a bridge for the track loop. contact don at www.thercspeedway.com to see the dimensions of the loop.i think it's 1.5 feet tall x width of the track x 1' wide. not sure. anyway i can help your club let me know bricklin@aol.com or 336-286-9951 bill mciver

Hey Matt, Brian and all others who have posted since I took my leave. Sorry to have been gone so long but I know have everything alinged with the RC gods and can return to the track. I am shooting for Feb 8th weather permitting. I would have been back sooner but about 8 weeks ago I came down with a severe case of Panther Fever and just haven't been able to shake it. I am going to have a nitro car soon if I can decide which one I want. I saw where you got a new one Matt. What flavor? I am leeanig towards RS4 SS, LD3 or something like those 2. Later Eric

Hey folks! Yeah we had a couple of nice weekends over the last couple of months. The last few have been poor for running but gives me a chance to do some things I've been needing to do. Looks the same this week too. If it isn't too cold I might try to get out and run a few tanks through my new ride but nothing competitive yet. Of course as soon as another car shows up that all changes right?

Eric, welcome back! Been wondering what happened to you. I got an LD3 Pro and so far I am very impressed with it. I raided the Academy STR-4 Pro for the radio gear so it won't be running for a while.

I put an STS-12 engine in it. So far so good. I heat cycled it for a couple of tanks and then ran another few tanks around the parking lot. It seems to be a nice little engine so far.

Didn't make it out Sunday, don't know if anyone did.

Hey Brian, you should be able to get them in whatever shore you want. I've only had 4 pairs of foam tires and I do like them. I bought these from ace hardware hobbies (http://www.acehardwarehobbies.com) they are 14.95 a pair but if you buy 3 pairs you get the fourth pair free. I found someone on ebay that is selling them for $10 a pair and $1 a pair shipping from Hong Kong. Here's that link. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3174007859) I need to order some real soon and I might try this guy. The shores I have been running were 35 & 40 rear and 40 & 45 for the front. These have been a little firm for the cooler weather but they are loose in a predictable way, if you know what I mean. With warmer weather on it's way I will probably order similar ratings this time around.

As far as rubber tires I really like Take-Offs but I have busted the center out of one too many wheels and won't be using them again. If I were a better driver it wouldn't be a problem but they don't hold up to my occasional(frequent) wall kissing. They really hook up and I have days where I have too much traction and spend a lot of time traction rolling the car.

I have an old set of HPI rubber that I have been running on the new car for break-in and the sad set that came with the car is mounted and ready to be used up next. Then it will be back to the foams. Really need to come up with a way to true up the foamies as they do get cone shape after some running. Tire lathes are so expensive! Of course, if you have a decent set up on your car they should wear pretty evenly but I haven't gotten that good with setting up my car yet.

Matt

Matt. It's the struggle for me. I have gone to Custom Hobbies twice in the last 6 months just because Kville takes so long to get stuff in. Custom said "If I don't have it I can get it in 2 days, 3 tops." If we can get Mike to that point, I am in. Perfect again, I needed a GWS Dream Starter, it's the whole kit to begin flying an airplane they are like $109 both times I was in there they didn't have it. We can order it. I needed it that week to start a friend with his bird. I got it from KC Hobby, had to. Now they have had a lot of parts I needed on the spot. That is the best. I could care less of the price, I needed the part. They got a :) for that one. I plan to be back out in April still.

It might be easier to handle the first couple times out. I didn't think so. Do you have everything you need to install the nova rossi motor?

Hey Brian, you just move in and out like the wind, don't ya? Eric and I looked around and you were gone! You had just been flying the plane. You electric guys are just too quiet. I guess that makes us nitro guys noisy and smelly.

Hey Matt, Got my starter box today :D This Nova motor is crazy fast! Just making a few passes in front of my house this afternoon. Actually, I bash my car up pretty good all by myself. I've never noticed anyone trying to take anybody else out intentionally. All the nitro has put a lot of deposits on the track and I can (almost) drive it in my sleep. I have been racing almost every week on this one for well over a year. I think that I have just hit the car one too many times and I just can't get it to track right. I had my monster out since the kids were out. Had a decent turn out probably 10 folks. One new driver out, didn't catch his name but, welcome! He seemed to be having as much fun as the rest of us so I think he'll be back. Some pretty good racing at times, get about 6 cars on the track at the same time and it can seem downright crowded.

Wonderiong if you race on any other days or is Sunday the only day you race. I have an electric 1/10 rc and I an about to purchase a LD3 Nitro (4/30/2004). I also have a friend with the same. We are located in Greensboro, nc and we race at the local Lowes Food parking lot on Old Oakridge rd (by the airport). We do not have permission, so we are looking for somewhere to race. But! Sunday is the day we are watching the race or at the race (Nascar). If you only race on sunday's is there anyone in the group that would like to start something on other days? We could try to get permission for the parking lot we curently run, but it seems you guys already have a good setup. We are willing to contribute ($$$) if needed.

Hey mad-Trix and welcome!
The only day that we get together is Sunday although occasionally some folks go out on Saturday and play, the track is not set up then but it is outlined on the parking lot. I had an ugly head-on with someone who went a little wide on the adjacent straight when the pipe was not set up(thud!). The K-mart is closed so the lot is always empty.
Mike and Chris at K-ville Hobby have been doing this about 2 years on Sunday. I imagine it works out for them because they don't have to be in the shop then. If there is enough interest in moving it to Saturday it might happen but I doubt any other day of the week would happen. Alternating every other week might be something people would like. I'll ask around.
If it would improve attendance it could definitely happen. Once we get enough regulars Mike wants to move forward with plans for some organized racing. Right now it is run what ya brung when you want to but the electrics tend to run with electrics and the fuel cars with the fuel cars. If you haven't been out you ought to come check us out some Sunday. You can always tape the races, you know.

When do you guys run at Lowes foods? Isn't it crowded? Has anyone bothered you about running there? That's close to my neck of the woods, I'd come run with you if the time was right. Let me know.

mch...Thanks for the welcome! What type of organized racing are they thinking about? A-Main's B-Mains? or some sort of endurance racing? I was thinking of doing something nascar style...where the drivers pit and refuel...My friend even thought of having tire changing in the pits...Don't know how that would work??? I have not experienced organized racing before. Saturdays would be good to race. Do people just show up and race or does someone have to be notified? We don't have a set time we race at lowes..we just go up there ...most of the time at night..so the lot is not crowded. For us (my neighbor and I) the best time is Tuesday - Friday night and anytime on the weekends. We race in front of a building (Attached to Lowes) that is not occupied. So we have plenty of room, even if we raced during the day. Do you run electric or gas? I am switching to gas...I love the speed, but am not sure if I will be able to handle it...my electric only goes bout 25-27 mph I'm ready for some torque!!!!

Hey gang, so where is it your guys race, in the triad? been trying to figure it out, I live in sanford, little south but curious how far. I drive to goldsboro to race off road every other weekend, but wanted to fire up my nct3 and come play sometime. I bet if you guys got more organized more people would come seems maybe the right time for your track, as I don't think durham is going to run this year, just some food for thought, theres aren't many other onroad tracks besides goldsboro. So where are you guys out playing at??

04-27-2004, 07:04 PM
I came out late and had to leave early. 10 or so folks out to run. Great day but the pollen was ridiculous! Had some good racing going on.

mad-Trix - the 4-tec uses a mechanical speed control!? I didn't even think they made those anymore. An ESC ought to be at the top your list of things to get. I don't know if yours would handle a lower turn motor. It gets pretty hot now with the 20T motor, doesn't it? I have a GM V4 that is good down to about a 14T motor. Cost around $50. I am no electric expert though so you ought to talk to some of the electric guys about what they are running. An ESC is a lot more efficient than the mechanical so you should increase your battery run-time by getting one.

KanaiDude - I would guess your drive would be about 1.5 hours from Sanford. We run in Kernersville, in the parking lot of the abandoned K-mart. Sunday 12 noon to whenever.

Come up to Greensboro and get on I-40 westbound. After you get through Greensboro, I-40 will split, stay on business 40(right fork) and get off at the Main St. exit, (it's the 2nd K-ville exit I think) and turn left. About a 1/2 mile or so will be a BlockBuster video store on your right. Turn right at the light and go straight up that street and you should find us in the parking lot. If you see WalMart you went too far if you see downtown kernersville you went the wrong way. Hopefully these directions are correct. If not someone please correct me. We are usually out there every Sunday start setting up around 12 and running around 1 and run till ?? Lot's of fun.

I do have a question....the LD3 is a 1 speed, can I hop up to a 2 speed or would it take some work to do it? I would like to add the power start option to it too, but heard I have to convert it to a rear exhaust vs the side exhaust it comes with.

1.5 hours isn't to bad I can make that trip, as soon as I get a spare few seconds to tweak on my ntc3 i have a new sirio evo2 i gotta break in on it. I've been racing pretty heavily off road at goldsboro this season but I am itching to get my pretty touring rocket back on the ground. Mad-trix I am pretty sure the ld3 has a 2speed upgrade for it, would probably take an hour or two to install it, and another little bit to get it tweaked out and running properly, not to hard though, dont know about the power start thing. There is a 2 speed upgrade for the LD3, it costs about $100. Probably should have bought the 2 speed version instead of the single speed.
I don't know about the power start. Whoever you buy it from ought to be able to answer that for you. You can also go to www.ofna.com and post on their forum. Someone should be able to answer you. If you are getting the single speed it is the RTR and it comes with the Force 12 engine which is a side exhaust engine. I have one in my OB-4 and it is a really nice engine, not huge on power but reliable, holds a tune great and it starts real easy with the pull start. Save your money for the 2speed.
I have the LD3 Pro kit and really enjoy it. It seems to be a bit sturdier than the TC3s.

Don't they run on-road at goldsboro also? I thought they did. The off road track I mentioned is going to be in the Greensboro area. I need to talk to the folks putting it in before I say too much. Don't really know what they have planned.

The king track is pretty big it races the first sat of each month, probably be about 50 racers there this weekend running 1/8 , 1/10, and MT gas, and electric also, that is the place to race if you live in greensboro. There is also sandhills raceway they are maybe 1.5 hours from greensboro on route 1 in vass they are racing may 22nd this month to start there season off road. What kind of off road are you interested in? the three choices for gas are 1/8 (highly competitive), gas10 trucks, and monster trucks let me know and ill give some suggestions. I have a kanai2 1/8 scale and a rc10gt 1/10 scale it's so much fun, i love touring cars, but off road adds another dimension AIR! I havn't raced at goldsboro on road yet because well my on road needs some buffing before i go get on a track and pay to get my azz wooped, so i'll let you guys do it to me first in a parking lot!

kanai - I would probably favor the rc10gt...I have seen it in the hobby shop and it is pretty cool...plus I like the look of the stadium trucks much better than the buggys or monsters.

matt- I already ordered the 1 speed, so i guess I will have to fork out another $100 for the upgrade. That's ok though...it's a learning error!!! I just have to explain that to my neighbor (who i convinced to buy one with me)...oh well!!!!

5/30/2004 - First time I've made it out in several weeks. Very light crowd, 7 or 8 folks. Broke a pivot ball off about the 3rd time I ran so I packed it up and just harrassed people for a while. Hope to be out this coming Sunday but we shall see.
New face showed up with his brushless powered TC3. Welcome Mark! Hope to see you again on a regular basis. Thanks for all the airplane info you shared with me. I went home and dusted off the old Zagi, taped it together and went out to fly it some. Sure doesn't take much input to get it to react, but I have a better idea of what I am trying to do now.

chris & mike got there a little after 1pm. we had close to 10 today. mike even brought out an electric airplane for "demos". the car worked reasonably well. but it felt a bit washy in the 180's. hey chris, thanks for being the 'geuny pig' today. having your input on those tires helped out. hope to hear from ya monday...it's all ready for ya! and i have to appologise to everyone about my motor. i said it was a 14x2, but when i took it apart it was acually a 12x2 millenium wind. :o .

have you guys considered comming out to durham? we run on alternate sundays. we have full lap counting capabilities, covered pits, electricity, and a food venue. (not the best but will do). in fact we have a race comming up this sunday (25th). we have a fair size on-road track ( 13.8 sec laps for me with an 8 turn trinity) we run 10th nitro and electric, 8th scale too. pro 10 pan cars and 12th scale. if you bring it...we'll race it! there's an off-road there too. but it needs a make-over. it's "runable" but slippery. it just needs someone who knows how to get the dirt to dry out more consistantly. in stead of drying out and getting slippy/dusty. for more info or directions just go to THERCSPEEDWAY.com. or you can PM or e-mail me and i'll do what i can for ya! thanks for reading y'all! see ya at the races!!!!

Made it out today for the first time in 5 or 6 weeks. Decent turnout, I reckon 10-12 people. About split up the middle between electric and fuel. Had some good racing going on.

Nomac, I've been pretty busy lately but the last I heard they were looking for someone to run the races at Durham. I guess they found someone, huh? I would like to get out and run over there. I won't be able to make the next race but I might try the one after that. I haven't followed the Durham thread in a few months since it seemed to have died. I went out there last fall on a weekday and ran into Don who was trying to get the off road track to dry out that day! The on road track barriers were in a bit of disarray but I cleared a path and spent a couple hours running on it and really enjoyed it. I bet it was a lot faster before all the dirt was dumped on half of it! I was looking forward to this season and it looked like they lost interest or something. I guess I'll have to check that thread more often now.

later,
matt

Yeah, for the first time in a year and a half I fell off pace with posting since the shop has been closed and I am not in front of the pc unless I have to be. I want to make it out to Durham sometime but they race on Sunday and I can't justify missing church to go unless its a later start. Plus, I have seen you drive, you would beat me all day long.

If the shop opens back up i will get a new motor for the TC3 and be back out second Sunday in September.

I had everything loaded up and ready to go and the rain started in earnest. Checked the weather radar map and it looks even worse in kernersville. Oh well. I have stuff I need to be doing at home and don't really have the 1.5 hours to drive there and back to see that it is raining in kernersville. Will try again next week.

I have been busy with other things and have not made it out in about 2 months. I did go by the shop a few weeks ago on a saturday and it was closed. Is this a permanent closure? There was a sign saying 'reopen on 8/16/2004' but I haven't made it back by. Haven't been able to get an answer on the phone either. Have Mike and Chris still been setting up the track every week?

'cause a good friend of mine passed along me a tc3! no strings! just fix what i break and win races! it's just an rtr chassis, but i must say that it is the fastest electric car i've driven in years! (even faster than my all-out team graphite cars!) trust-much!!!! now i got some REAL SPEED! hope to see y'all soon. tell chris that i'm looking forward to running with him again. and i'd love to see a pro-3 zooming around durham again! that car was awsome there!

9/5 We were in Cleveland. I don't know if they raced.

The sign on the shop now says that they will re-open 9-9-04. I have decided to just wait on the opening instead of going elsewhere for parts. I have a sick TC3, Stampede and Rustler that needs some work.

Speaking of work, I still don't have a job, oh well.

Nomac, better than you? I'd like to see that. My wife and I are driving seperate to church the next few weeks, if I go to the early worship I can be in Raliegh by... noon. Would I miss most of the racing. Just to watch, obviously.

Made it out for the first time in a while. Smallish turnout (10 or so) but we had a bunch of fun.
Had 3 micros out there that were pretty cool. I need to get mine going again. Suggested to Chris they ought to have a track in the shop instead of the slot car track. Nobody in the area is running micros and if they could get something going a night every week or two it could do the shop some good. The guys running the micros go to Boone to run.
Didn't ask when they were going to re-open the store. Brian, you ought to come out on Sunday and give Mike a list of things you need, I imagine he could hook you up or get them on order for you.
Want to try to get to Durham, just not sure when that might be. It's hard to set aside the entire day to get down there.

hey brian...getting there around noon is fine. that leaves just enough time to charge a pack for heat one. :D . i really hope you can race there before end of the season. just bring your car with a hot-weather (k'ville) set-up on it it and you'll be close. if you run foams then 40f's(28mm) and 37r's(28-30mm) are good. and rubber tires have been take-off 27gl's pre-assembled. i'm currently looking for a body for the car now. maybe the new mazda or the 'ole skool' HPI '97 honda accord. with any luck...i should be there this week with a newly tweaked tc3! chow for now.

About the same turn out as last week. Weather looked like it might rain but it never did.
Left the nitros at home and just ran the electric. Had a very good time in fact, I might just shelve the nitros for a while. Definitley won't bring both types on the same day. Too difficult for me to change from one to the other.
Talk of doing some micro racing at the shop. I'm up for it! Anybody else? The more interest the better chance it has. We need a place to run in this area, and it could help draw some people into the shop.
Brian, did you get the Corvette into the shop yet?

turnout was good. but had a horrible time. frequency conflicts.....car sustained about $50 worth of damage. (if the parts are still available). there are people who come there to race and there are those who like to bash around. let's keep the bashers together and the racers together from now on. because there's nothing worse than having a hammer nail you and it's fun for him. especially when you're pretty serious about testing and racing.
the reason why i was so up-set is 'cause i want to land a big motor sponsor. so i need all the practice i can get for some up and coming races. it's hard to do that when your car is turned into an rc ping-pong ball!

so chris...mike...and all the other fellas i know.....sorry about the attitude. and to the fella that lent me the crystals......thanks! you were the only good news i had at the track!!! see y'all soon!

mch
10-20-2004, 07:44 AM
Had the best turnout in quite a time. EVERYBODY needs to check the frequency board BEFORE they fire their radio up. It isn't pretty when someone hijacks your freq.
Sorry to hear about the busted up car Nomac. Hopefully you can get the parts you need. What are you driving that you are worried about parts availablity? I have the same concern with my car luckily, it has held up very well so far. I'm trying to figure out who you are and I can't. I am driving the white BMW bodied STR-4 Pro and my real car is a silver subaru. (If I just described a hack then just disregard that last sentence  ) When is the season for Durham finishing up? I would like to try to get out before they are done for the year.
There are the folks out to bash and those of us that are more serious about the hobby. I try to choose when I run and who is on the track when I am running. What kills me is when someone is driving so far over there head and they don't care who or what is in the way. They need to realize this is more about finesse and less about raw power. I'll leave it at that.

hey mch...i ran the white/catrol IS300 this weekend. the car is a mission1. i'm hunting around for any info about using Mi2 arms in the rear. oh yeah...my real car is that little green civic parked next to that gray olds. my wife and kids came this time tho. yeah, it made me pretty up-set sunday. i called for 71 channel for several minutes and got no answer. watched cars as they ran to see who had it and STILL no luck. so after about 15 minutesb i turned on my radio...no-one complained. i had a spare 71 (from there) clip in my box and put it on. went to the track and WHOLLY MAMA!!! guess i should've been more thurough.

idon't know when durham is thru for the year. they're in the process now of hooking up with an indoor carpet deal. i'll keep you posted. but we plan on racing this sunday so come on out! but to be honest...i like k'ville's layout better. it's just more technical. perfect for electric! but the bite in durham is higher, and it flows more. (perfect for gas/electric mod.)

I was thinking that was you. I didn't know you had freq problems that day. I know there were three folks on 78 at one point. Mike ought to bring several sets of crystals out for sale or even to rent for a buck or two.
I'll have to check your car out next time I see ya, never seen a Mission up close and personal. Now I understand why you knew what an str-4 pro was. We are the two oddballs in a sea of associated and hpi cars.

Didn't make it out this weekend as the weather didn't look like it would co-operate. Looks like this coming weekend ought to be about perfect.

nomac - did you get to Durham? I checked the weather there and decided I needed to stay home and take care of some stuff while the weather was lousy.

Welcome Nick!
We don't do any organized racing but we do have a track set up just about every Sunday afternoon. Mostly 1/10 electric and nitro touring. There are a couple 1/8 scale that come by occasionally. The nitro folks will run together and the electrics will run together and sometimes everyone runs together. It all depends what you want to do. There is some talk of getting more organized but it hasn't happened yet.

Mike and Chris from K-ville hobbies(336-992-2411) are the fellas that set it up every week. It is in the parking lot of the old K-Mart in Kernersville. If you are coming from W-S, take I-40 Business east, exit on Main St. in Kernersville, turn right, go to the Blockbuster video store and turn right at the light. (I thinks it is the 3rd light) go straight up that road and we will be back in the parking lot, you can't miss us. They start setting up around 12-12:30 and are ready to run at about 1. The track is laid out with pvc pipe and is a pretty decent layout for what it is. We have a frequency board that you are supposed to check in with and make sure you aren't wreaking RF havoc with someones ride. (If you've read some of the last few posts you've seen that not everyone does this.)
I'd say the biggest turnout is 1/10 electric touring. Mostly TC3s but I run an STR-4 Pro and nomac on this board has a Shumacher Mission 1. Off the top of my head I'd say there is around 10 or so core folks who come out pretty regular and try to actually do some driving. We usually have quite the fun time.

Do you have a car now or are you in the market for one? Come on out this sunday and introduce yourself.

Matt and gang-
I have a XXX-S that hasnt been run for a while. I used to run a lot but the last year or so I havent really had much time. I moved to the area for college so I am not sure how much time and energy I will be able to devote to racing as of yet, but I would still like to come out. Currently I dont have a power supply for my charger but I think i will get a cheap one. Come to think of it, my batteries are probably all dead so i think i'll pick up some of those too. Most of my RC gear is still 6 hours away at home, since i didnt know whether i'd be able to race or not. If it turns out that i'll have time, i will bring my gear down and race.

Nick - sounds like we could be just what you need to get your feet wet again. You can come out for an hour or for the entire afternoon. Get that stuff from home sent to you and figure out what works and what doesn't. As far as a power supply for your charger I just use on old PC power supply I had laying around. Works fine and the price was right. Just put a load across one of the 5 volt outputs and you are good to go. Batteries might still be good, don't know until you try 'em. Come on down next Sunday and check it out.
