View Full Version : Functions of Stadium vs Monster

I am considering getting either a stadium or monster truck. I honestly don't know the diference.
I live in the Arizona, so snow isn't an issue. I live close to desert. I occassionally go out to the dunes, but I think the majority of my use will be in desert. I like the speed, but I'm a rock-crawler at heart (I'm into extreme four-wheeling). I know I will be jumping the RC. I'm leaning towards nitro over electric just because I want a really good (100% power all the time) car that I don't have to worry about lack of power/speed.
I guess the e-traxx and t-traxx are both pretty good (learning towards t-traxx) for the monsters, and the Traxxax Rustler looks pretty cool too. I'm looking for advice here - yes, I'm a newbie! :)

i live in phx az what part of az do u live in?
it is T-MAXX
i own one lol.
i also own a kyosho ultima ep 2wd stadium truck.
but if your a newbie i would lean twords a electric stadium truck just to get the feel of R/C then maybie when you become more experienced from real r/c and not radio shack cars you should buy a t-maxx

MT's are more for goin over big stuff, soft sand, and rock crawling...STs are smaller, lighter, and faster, but less ground clearance and smaller tires.

Stadium trucks: drive through the obstacles, and use manuvering and such to drive through the courses
Monster trucks: Obstacles? Oh what...You mean that thing i just ran over?
I like a stadium truck, though it's more....roadish...and stuff...

Well if you want to go crawling. Go electric. You can burn out a clutch in a nitro quite fast crawling at low speeds. Customized Tamiya Clodbuster are the hot ticket for rock crawling, like 90degree of axle travel. But these clods are HEAVILY modifided from the box stock kits. The Tamiya TXT-1 would be better for rock crawling out of the box. Or the Tamiya Pajero is about as scale as it gets for crawling, IFS and a solid axle in the rear. You can modify those truck easily for more wheel travel, and they look cool too. But the performance and handling just isnt there.

Thorbob's awsome modifided clodbuster (http://www.thorbob.com/Photogallery/RC_Pix/Clod/clod.jpg)
The Tamiya Pajero (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/rc/xb/57701.html)
Stadium trucks (XXXT-T3-XXXNT-etc) are built for the best handling on a relitively smooth dirt surface. And for all out speed, and cornering. ST's just very well though, smooth and light.

Trucks like the T-maxx are good for all around bashing, jumping, track racing, and speeding over rough terrain. Not low speed crawling though, that'd burn up the cenrifuitial(sp?) clutches that nitro RCs use. The new T-maxx 2.5 wouldnt be a bad choice.
The E-maxx could crawl, race, speed over rough terrain, just about do anything you want it to. But you will have to deal with the battery issue, you can buy good high capacity batteries and spend tons of cash and get long fast run times. Or spend less cash and get shorter run times and a slight decrease in acceleration, though not a whole lot. For batteries look at things like Sanyo or Gold Peak 3300mah cells, which are quite expensive. Or Sanyo 1500-2000mah for a lower price, but the higher the mah rating the longer the run times, but the higher the price generally. If you want to spend a lot of money you can through a brushless systemin the truck for about $300 which will give you phenomenal accleration and top speed with longer run times than brushed motors provide.

It all really depends on what you want to do with the truck. :D
That was long, longer than most of my replies, hopefully you find it informative, even if I am drunk  :p Hheh

Yeah thats true. BTW, check out the vids of a speed run with a 15t mod in a t3, and the stampede video twelve (http://midcanrc.mine.nu/pudder/movies.htm ) The t3 is VERY fast and has the speed of Id say close to a stock gt rtr with the restrictor taken out. Makes me want to get a esc and speedgems 15t for my tl01 and make it FLY. Watch out!

Yes stadium trucks are quicker, they are lower to the ground, lighter sometimes, and a suspension for taking corners better. Monster Trucks are big, durable, higher center of gravity, but are still rather quick :)
