I just moved here, Melbourne, Central Florida by the Atlantic Coast...I race at Cocoa on US 1 (Spare Time Hobbies), Boggy Creek (south of Orlando) and Fort Pierce. I would love to find more 1/8 scales to race against....

Kind of far, but if you ever get into the off-road racing and want a good track, Fort Pierce is a lot of fun, and it's right off of I-95! There tend to be some really serious racers there, but mostly in 1/8 scale. Still a lot of fun though.

hey...Becca....this is off topic...but i was readin your profile and what do you mean by recondition motors? You rebuild them? That's sweet!!!! Anywho.....just curious...
Becca
01-20-2003, 03:39 PM
Mostly I give them a good cleaning, get the sand and dirt out, and make sure the piston and sleeve aren't scratched. Also have refitted some pistons and sleeves of ours that were expanded and had no compression...seems to work well, but the flywheel is so tight, I have to use needlenose pliers to turn it! 3 so far worked fine, but one had too much compression and the rod shattered.

o.....i see....cool....sounds like fun....see....my parents would freak....and be afraid that i'd blow something up.....so there goes that.....:(
Becca

Well, to tell you the truth, it all started with the collection of engines we are amassing here. There were a few stock GS motors that had lost compression due to the piston not being released from the sleeve at the end of racing...rather than waste money on more motors, decided to try reconditioning it...it was a pretty useless motor at the time, so it didn't hurt to give it a shot. It seems to be running fine now, I have hooked it up for the oval off road track, and some other people are interested in us doing that for them (there are 3 of us that do it, not for much money at all, just as a side thing).
So unless the engine is really blown, I wouldn't mess around with it!

I know where the park is at. What did you think of the track? I just had knee surgery so my racing is suspended for awhile. My only way to get my daily rc dose is either work on my stuff or hang out online here! Later

Hey guys,
You ever go out to the track at Go-Racing, off of Oakland and 441?
There should be a good turnout this Sunday for the races there...

I live in Coral Gables and usually race off road at Miami RC (Cutler Ridge) I just got my micro and really want an excuse to hop it up.
Anyone know of any micro racing in the area (Miami, FT. Lauderdale/Coral Springs etc???) Plus any good LHS which carry micro parts????
Where is everyone racing??? What are you racing??? Let me know.
Thanx

There is a Pro Series race next weekend that we will be competing in, although it's in Central, not South Florida. I hear some of the top drivers will be there though, it's part of a pro series of races of course (which means I will definitely be entering in the Sportsman class, heh). Boggy Creek Racetrack, just south of the Orlando International Airport. I have seen guys from the Maxy team (from Miami) up there on occasion, so I know people definitely make the drive. Depending on your skill level, or your interest, it might make a worthy road trip.
It's a ROAR event, Sat the 22 is the qualifiers and Sunday is the actual competition. $45 will get you one entry, it's a whopping $30 for each extra class!!! There are going to be some serious racers out there. And I still need to break in my new engine

We are driving up there on Friday morning and camping out on the property in a camper (we actually called the owner and asked permission!). Where are you driving from, the Orlando area or further? Are you going to be in the Sportsmans' class or the Pro? Most of everyone I know is going into Sportsman except for two or three, and they are factory-sponsored drivers!!!

We are leaving at about 6 in the morning on Friday :( yuck, I just had dental surgery and I will probably be out of it all day!!!
We are all running 1/8 scale also...we will be on the grounds with a camper, four of us are staying in the camper, and there are a few other people we know who will probably also show up.
I still have a lot to do, I am finishing up my pro kit, but didn't have much time because of the dental work I just had done :D I still have to do my shocks and break in my engine...everyone on my team is breaking in their WS7's and I have my OS RG, hehheh! I still have to paint my body too, look for a 1/8 sportsman buggy silver with blue and black flames! Actually, just look for the female 1/8 driver, I don't usually see any others up there!!!
Best of luck, maybe I'll run into you over the weekend!

Hey, did you make it up there??? Pretty insane that triple jump they put on the straightaway...
I didn't do that well, my car wasn't set up right for the track, had about 30 different pit people all weekend long ;) but our buddy Brete got 1st place in the 1/8 sportsman!!! If you were there and raced, I must have raced against you at one point or another because there were only the two heats for sportsman. I made B Main
Did you see the insane rain delay Saturday night???

Is your dad's name Jonathan? (Don't worry, not looking to stalk you guys :D no last name necessary). I know he was having some mechanical problems with his car and I saw a younger guy (you mentioned you were young) pitting for him. Thought maybe that was you!
How did you do in the 1/10 pro???

yeha thats us.i just bought the buggy from a guy at my local track so we didnt have time to get a recharge able battery pack so the hi torque servos were killing the aa batteries.thats why he had problems.i didnt do so good in truck because my battery pack was broke so i had to go conservitave in qualifing then it finally gave in and my dad got me a native racing one so it would'nt brake again.i qualified 1st in the d main and got 6th in the race.hopefully ill do better in round 2!

Not bad! My buggy was definitely not ready for the race, everything was way too stiff (I finished putting it together Thursday night). But I didn't care. Remember that stupid 1/8 C main? Cross the transponder wire and "the race is over." Man that was a tease.
Glad you were able to make it and have fun. I gave up trying to be competitive and just enjoyed myself. I didn't have a chance to practice before the qualifiers (I have raced at this track a few times before though)...and so on my first qual I was still trying to set the trim!!!
I'll definitely be ready next year ;)
Just FYI (I know it's a long drive for you guys) they do hold races there on the second Sunday of every month, sponsored by Superior Hobbies in Orlando. Is there a good clay track in your area (Tampa)? ...just in case I ever make it out there. I still need to get to Bartow also.
