Considering the price difference, I don't see why anyone would want to buy the SportMaxx. For only $100 more, you get reverse, 4wd vs 2wd, and 2 speeds. If you factor in the extras and the actual runtime and maintenance cost, the $100 isn't really that much.
Personally, if you can't afford the $400 for the TMaxx, you might as well spend $300 on the EMaxx. Then again, with batteries and a charger, you're almost up to $400. Also, why get a 2wd monster truck, nitro or not? Stadium truck I can understand but 2wd monster truck?
If the SportMaxx was half the price of the TMaxx, then I would say there is a good market for it.

Well, the Nitro Stampede is $290 and the Sport Maxx is priced the same (or at least pretty close to it) so why would there be no market for it? People buy Nitro Pedes for $100 less than a T-Maxx, so why would they not buy a Sport Maxx for $100 less?
The N Pede has a great market, so it makes sense that the Sport Maxx prolly will too since the price of the S-Maxx will make it more wanted than an N Pede since it is bigger, has alot more aftermarket stuff, and has a way better engine.

I agree with two statements here:
1) The Sportmaxx is a good idea. If you've ever based with a 2WD truck, you'll know you don't NEED 4WD to have fun. Heck, for years the only 4WD trucks were Clods and USA-1s. The 2-speed is also a nicety you don't need unless you are have a large area, and even then it's only 10mph difference, at the high end no less.
2) It is overpriced for what it is. I love the concept, that it's a cheaper alternative to the 4WD Maxx, but it's not enough of a price difference IMO. Still, $100 is $100, and it's enough to make me take a second look.
The SportMaxx and N-Pede don't have a direct crossover, but I think the differences are now less relevant. The N-Pede is a little smaller, with smaller tires, but people have now been conditioned to the larger size of the Maxx, so that's kind of out the window.
Overall, if you break down the numbers, the T-Maxx IS cheaper in the long run, but the SportMaxx is cheaper at the outset, just as fun, and a little les work to maintain.
The Nitro Pede is a better truck than the Sport Maxx will be IMO. The pede is a lot lighter than the T-Maxx. and can pack a huge punch. The pede will still nearly outrun a 2.5maxx, I have seen it!
The sport maxx is just bigger, bigger doesnt mean better. People think this will take the laziness out of the maxx acceleration, it might but if you wanna put a new meaning to acceleration put a 2.5 in a Nitro Pede and see what happens.
I can see the reason for the Sport Maxx, the pede is an 8 year old design and some people would like to see a new 2wd truck, but I will be keepng my Stampede. Unless the trucks name is Clodbuster or Blackfoot it wont live forever. Just a message to any maxxers out there, watch out for the nitro pede, there are many of us, and we CAN and WILL catch your truck.

Sure, the Stampede was/is a great truck, but the Sportmaxx has some distinct advantages:
Size - A bigger truck is more stable, period. The SportMaxx is longer and wider. It also has much more ground clearance. It's not, however, so much bigger than the Stampede that it will be at a great power-weight disadvantage.
Parts - Since the SportMaxx uses the same parts as the T/E-Maxx, many more shops will cary their parts than will for the Nitro Stampede. There are also many times more hop-ups available.
Design - No matter which truck you like better, the SportMaxx has the better suspension design. It's longer, wider, and has more suspension travel, so it will be more stable, jump better, and handle rough terrain better.
The older truck is great, but you can't fault the new truck for being better. At least IMO.
