hey whats up.
i finished the Break-ins yesterday..and tonight i tried to tune the high speed needle cause thats what the T-MAXX user manual says to do!...and i had nothing but trouble.I started the truck, i warmed it up....i adjusted the HSN 1/16 leaner and the truck started getting really hot...and steam started to come from the head and i shut her down!?!?!?!?

*** is up with that?

so i tried to bring it back and richen it, then i tried to lean it..and before u know it i had no F'N idea where i was at with the setting..so i stopped for the night!!! lol :o

when i got it home i closed the HSN all the way up and turned it 4 turns..so its back 2 factory???

what do i do? HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could the idle be to high? if i turn the idle down the truck will stall cause its so rich i believe? its driving me nuts!!!

First, you went "tune happy". You could have just left it alone...

4 turns out is stock setting. Don't just start leaning it out. If your truck has a trail of blue smoke from the pipe (a light to medium trail) then its about right. If theres no smoke, richen it up. If theres tons of smoke, then lean it some. Make sure you make SMALL adjustments. Don't try and tune it perfectly so it performs like a proffesonal tuned it. Just get it running in a good manner.

By the way...the manual doesn't TELL you to start tuning. Tuning it is up to YOU. The manual did not demand that you fiddle with your needles.

Try and have fun, I know I am:)

Hey, you already posted this EXCACT same thing in another thread!! Here is what i posted........

here is what i have found with mine.

When it starts to smoke off the top of the head SHUT IT DOWN INSTANTLY!!! you will ruin your engine!!! wait for it to cool and trun the HSN COUNTERCOLCKWISE 1/4 turn. Start her up and see what happons. drive all the way through the tank UNTIL A it startes to smoke again. Then just repeat the tasks from above. B It loses power. if you stomp on it and it starts to make a deap low "growl" and dosen't go any where. To cure this richen it up! dont lean it out like its "choaking on fuel"!!

ALWAYS make sure there is a blue smoke comming out from the exhaust, and ALWAYS tune the HSN BEFORE the LSN, the HSN controls ALL fuel flow into the carb. The LSN controls what the HSN is letting in at lower speeds. Get it? Hope So!

Hope this helps! DONT GIVE UP!! Start at the stock settings, and work from there!

hello again,
here is my situation today...i put a new traxxas glow plug in it!

and put the high speed needle back to stock//4 turns out!

when it started you could see the blue smoke coming out..so i figured it was running safely.I ran it for about 4 minutes and then the truck shut off!

i walked over to it and the head was steaming.....WHy is it running hot when i have it real rich and there is no leaks in the line and the gas lid is sealed tight and the fiberglass heat shields are in place!

what do i do? should i do what you said and turn it another 1/4 counterclockwise?

(so then it would be 4 and 1/4 turns) thats really rich!!! shoudl that be ok??? sorry for askingso many damn questions but this truck has got me going crazy.. i havent got to enjoy it yet!:(

What the temp outside. If its cold, well of course you will see steam, its about 270 degrees! Are you sure its the high speed needle. Do you have your idle set right? You Ought to buy a temp gun, it takes a lot of guess work out and helps us help you. And if you are totaly lost, just take it to a hobby shop, most are more than happy to help (usually).

It was steaming? Steam usually is the result of water hitting the cooling head and vaporizing. Sure you weren't hittin any water?

Also, you said that the HSN is 4 1/4 turns out. That would mean that your running a 1/4 lean. Richen it at least a 1/4 turn and raise your idle a little bit.

Note: I'm running a little over a 1/4 turn rich from stock on my T-Maxx. Give that a try if all else fails.

Remember:

Lean: Clockwise
Rich: Counter-clockwise

Good luck!

You all said that 4 turns out was the stock setting, right? so if R-maxx is running 4 AND 1/4 OUT, how is that running lean????

oh and an easy way to remeber which way is lean and rich, remeber- Righty Leany, Lefty Richy. Its backwards from righty tighty, lefty loosey (just rember its backwards b/c your engine is a P.I.T.A.)

HTH (hope this helps!)

oh and i'm like peterbilt, running a little more rich than stock (i dont know how much, i dont see a point in keeping track)

hello again,
i tried to run it again but it started steaming again.and that is with 4 turns on the HSN.maybe i have some WD-40 on the head from when i cleaned it last night..Im gonna go over the truck and make sure everything is tight and no air leaks...What is the factory setting for the idle screw..i bet thats all outta wack! and which way turns the idle up and which way down?

is counter-clockwise = Idle Up????

clockwise = Idle Down???

i would like to run it now but its raining really hard!

the LHS said since the truck just got done with break in i should run a few tanks threw it driving it easy???? i never heard of that!!!

thank you for all your help so far..i really appreciate it!
