For me, it came down to the maxx or the Savage. They are all great trucks, but I recently purchased the Savage, here's my reasons:
1. it comes stock with a .21 engine, not to mention it was designed around a .21 rather than a small block. This gives me the option to later on install a monster .21 without having to get
a conversion kit and spend $$$.
2. Larger scale. Side by side, the Savage is huge next to a Tmaxx. This is just a personal choice, I wanted something huge, especially for offroad.
3. Nicer electronics. The Savage comes with gear made by Futaba, the Traxxas radio doesn't appeal to me.
4. HPI reliability- I really like their stuff. Most of my R/C stable is HPI- and I live fairly close to their facility, and it's been instant service when I needed something. They're very good about repairing/replacing things for warranty. Of course, if you don't live in the L.A. area, this might not matter.
5. Handling. After driving both, the Savage seems a lot more stable and predictable, both in the air and in corners. Maybe it's due to its larger scale, but the Tmaxx wanted to flip over a lot. Of course, these are box stock trucks.
There's other reasons but that's primarily what I based my decisions on. The Tmaxx is nice though, especially with the electric start- but a properly tuned engine should start with a few pulls so I didn't see this as important. The new 2.5 engine is great, and it pulls nice wheelies if you're into that (I personally find it annoying, it reminds me of my wild willy).
Whatever you choose, I honestly think you can't go wrong!
