I wanted to buy a helicopter and start the heli hobby, but what do i buy or need to look for. Should i buy an electric or gas? I have all the supplies for gas as I am an avid car and truck owner and boat. I thought about a plane but where I will fly it the majority of the time isnt suuited for a plane unless i look at park flyers

i want to get into helicopters too. but i do not know what to look for in a starters helicopter. gas or electric is fine for me to as i am also into gas and electric cars or trucks. where i live it is also very hard to fly a plane unless you drive like 45 minites.

I plan on getting the humming bird ir the Ikaurus helicopter.
They take only 4 channel radios. Either that Or I will get the JR venture heli.
I think they are all trainer helicopters.

***** I plan on getting the humming bird ****

The Humming bird is cheap $79.00, but it's not what it's crack up to be, this bird is an imitation of the Feda, and the Feda is an imitation of the lark, the lark is an imitation of the Piccolo.

I have a friend, that's been flying heli. for years, and that has a humming, sent to him for testing, from what he told me, this heli. is not all that, "buyers are just wasting their money"

The Piccolo seems to be the favorite pick of them all, as well, as the Corona.:)

I am also looking at the corona electric and the gass. but I wan't something small enough that I can put in my bag and sneek into class. Jk:D
If the humming bird flies and moves around I will propably get that since I am 14 years old and broke. There is a kid in my class that brought his micro rs4 to class and drove it around when the teacher wasn't in the class. So I wan't to be the first to fly a helicopter in class:D I am just kidding but it would be fun.
I have all of the stuff to get it up in the air and have fun.

Oh yeah 2ng I will post pix propably next weekend because my newest pup (Boo) died of parvo. I have just been broke.

Yeee,

I'm broke also, to prevent myself from being broke as it is, and continue my love for R/C, I buy things that's been proven.

The Corona is big:) and NIIIIIIIICE, I have one, still in the box, I'm buying it's gears one by one. I also have the Piccolo, same thing. I'm saving up:)

Sorry about your Pup. I used to have a dog, when I was a kid, when he got ran over by a car, it hurts, that was it for me.

don't worry about the pup. she is in a better place.:p
how much is the corona electric and will it take a 4 channell radio
that is all I have the money for right now, unless I buy a 5 channell radio but I have to wait for another 2 weeks. but that will cut into the money for the helicopter. I think the piccolo is a good deal,I think I will save up for the gear (I did that all of the time for my car, 2yearsof waiting 300.00 car ran only a few times:eek: ) I really need it flyable this summer so I think I will be allright. I wan't something I can progress with. Corona, Piccolo.

Yee,

The dilemma, the Corona seems to be too big for indoor flying, and the Piccolo is just right, but both heli's are good.... You have a big tough decisions, man:) Do you want it small, or big? It's your choice, that why I bought two:) because, I know it will be a tough choice:)

2ng,
The delimma (sp) I face is can It fit in my bag because I wan't to take it to my Dad's He seems interested in this hobby, or I can stick with planes and build one there and stick it in my carry on
bag. He lives in Virginia and about to go to England, this summer.
I don't mind that I can't fly indoors. I just want something I can have fun with. I really don't want something that I have to drive for an hour to go fly. so it is the corona (gas or the electric).
or the piccolo. does the corona take a 4 channel radio.
And do they sell it in kit form (no motor and electronics)

Matt:confused:

I have never flown RC airplanes but wanted to get into the RC hobby with helicpters. I got some advice for what I needed to start and ended up spending lots of money and time fruitlessly with the wrong starting model. Subsequent to that investment, I purchased a Thunder Tiger Raptor 30 sized helicopter. Build and set it up (with some outside help) but have been learning and flying it for about a couple of years. The Raptor is great not only from a novice's view, but from those who have flown them for years. You can go to any flying field and notice of hte helis there, many are Raptor 30s. Now Raptor is selling its V2 which from what I have read, is a great heli.

Get some advice from experienced RC helicoptor flyers befor you make ANY investment. Once you buy, the repari side of things must be a very significant concern as well. YOU WILL CRASH and some models are very expensive to repair while the Raptors are very reasonable.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Hi,

We have sold ~30 of these Feda helicopters now, all over the world to beginners and experienced heli pilots. Most of our customers are happy.

They are not easy to control, but which helicopter is. Bigger helicopters are more stable, but also much more expensive.

Currently we seem to be the only company that sells the Feda in Mode 2. All parts are stock, or available within 2 business days. Shipping.... (no wait, maybe this is to much advertising)

If you have questions - visit our website for information or sending an e-mail.

A Hirobo sounds like a good heli.
It will propably use a 5 channel computer radio or a 6 channel heli radio. Helicopters generally use a radio with ccpm mixing. (cyclic control pitch mixing I think.) I don't know any about hirobo choppers bu I only have heard the best

Hi. I am new to the RC game, but have had a desire to learn to fly a RC helicopter for years. I have gone through several very inexpensive fairly useless models. For Christmas I received the HIROBO XRB SC Lama. This is a small indoor modes, but what a hoot. This thing works great! It comes with everything you need except 8-AAA batteries. It even has extra rotors which have come in handy. I think it runs around $300. I think this is a good first step to see if I have the aptitude.

You need to read this before you buy any heli. (Helicopters 101 http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemID=70533)

I have found that a Hirobo Lama XRB SR Skyrobo to be the most stable and easy to fly helicopter. And for a nitro-helicopter, a Century Hawk Sport .30 size is large and very stable to fly for a beginner.
