Here's a photo of my in-progress Kolibri type plane. About 3 hours in it to this point. Fuselage is 9-gram wrapped tube from airdyn.com rest is 1.7 and 1.3 mm pulltruded CF rod. Covering is Nelson Litefilm. Chose to use full flying stabilizer and rudder instead of V-tailerons.

Span: 28.15"
Chord: 9.5"
Length: 26" (approx)

Gear will be GWS-A, control from 2xpico servos, GWS 2 amp esc and R4P receiver, all lightened.

Al,

What is the weight of the covered frame?

I also once built a Kolibri-like flyer with a similar configuration as yours. When I finally got bored with it using a GWS IPS drive, I decided to mount an EDF-50 on the underside instead. Wow! It sounded like a really loud hummingbird!

I liked it so much I decided to build another one, this time with a profile fuse. I used this to experiment with the EDF-50, KP-44, and Wemotec fans! It sure flew faster than the original:D

Here is a photo of my first kolibri-style flyer. I called this one the Ellipse.

Complete plane with motor, esc, 2 servos covered surfaces is 3.7 oz. Add battery weight for AUW of 5-6 oz. Flys great. I'll be posting some movies on my site later this week. I'll post here when I do.

Here's a movie of my Kolibri flying indoors. I'm at full throttle - you can tell because I'm passing a GWS Tiger Moth! The plane also slows down nicely, I'll see about getting some video of that.

Warning, movie is 3.5 MB - will take a while to download, but it's worth it!

If you check out my Kolibri page again (link above) you'll find three more movies and some new photos there.

Wow!
Cool!
Could you send me a plan or something?
I've always wanted to build something like that.

I read this, then just scratchbuilt it by eye:

Hope that helps.

I'm quite new to these micro flyers and this looks REALLY cool!

What motor/gearbox setup are you using? Prop size?

Thanks.

GWS-A drive (B would work fine too) with 10x4.7 prop. 7 cell NiMh 280 mAh pack, and GWS R-4P receiver and two micro servos.
