View Full Version : Building and flying the K&A The Odyssey
Before, I will post my building pics. Has anyone flown this kit before or has anyone build one before?
Thanks,

The Wing
Identification Pic. 1
1) "To prep the wing cores for sheeting, the last 1/2 of each panel must be trimmed off."
* Aligned the cores flushed to it saddle at LE, mark at the side of the TE forward 1/2, at both ends, with precision. Draw a line, and cut along the lines. Pic 2.
Note: Cut the foam cores as well, as the saddle, for as the manual say to only cut the saddle and not the core, but as you go along the irregularities and "Fuzz" will be trimmed as well, so to save time, do this process all at once.
Planks Pic 2
Per manual, 1/32" balsa sheet served as the planks. Each balsa sheet is then, butt glued in place. I squared each sheet and taped the top where the planks meet, once this process in completed. I then turned it over, and glue it with Elmer's wood glue, just enough for the glue spread lightly, to sip through gaps. Planks are made up of two sheets.
*If done properly and glued lightly. Curing time 3 Hours.
The manual stated and instructed, to glue the inboard panels, the outboard and inboard saddles, as well, as the inboard cores and the outboard cores to be glued together, and sheeted both at the same time.
My approach is different, I believe procedure, allows room to adjust and recalculate mistakes. Remember once foam is sheeted, it will be harder to redo mistakes. Perfection and is everything. Pic
* I sheeted the inboard first and the outboard separately. Pic 3.
Let Dry for 24 Hours. Once glue cured. I glued the LE in place, per plan and sanded to shape.
LE in place, and sanded. Ailerons cut per plan, Wings are set and finish. :)

Hello Guys,
My Sailplane is 90% complete. I am sooooooo Happy, I find this kit easy to build, but due to my schedule, I haven't really got back to working on her. (BECAUSE I went to the SuperBowl and watch my Raiders took a beating:( ) but now, my building fuel is back, and I am ready to fly again.
I will post more pics on my modification, nothing special, but I think I ran into something that can save weight in the future. Anyways guys. Here she is:)
I will trim her w/ Budweiser lettering and colors.

:D
2NG you ever finish building yours? I'm in the process of building the Glass fuse version right now. I'm not using iron on covering, I'm going to glass the wings, which I've already done the top half... will soon finish the glassing, then cut the ailerons and servo bays, then glue the wings together and re-enforce them.
