I have a traxxas closed endbell stinger and it needs both new brushes and a comm cut. But i can't open it. so is is possible to open it?

You can open it, but it's not worth it to replace the brushes: I don't know of any that will fit (They aren't the same ones used in open-endbell motors), or will last as long as the included ones. It's also hella hard to open the motor as the endbell tabs have to be pried off and everything. A new Stinger is less than $20, and at that price, it's not worth even bothering with the old one.

Orion makes several different types of motors for under $20, and even the ones with the most turns will perform better than the Stinger. Even the ones with fixed timing and bushings are good.

yeah, i was thinkin that too. but keeping my first and only motor runnnig would be nice. Any particular tool that i could use to pry it open?

There is no trick to opening motors. Just grab the motor and hit it on the pinion side of the arm. I am talking about a hard wack. The end bell will pop off. Then you straighten the tabs, replace the end bell, and then bend the tabs back into place.

Sounds like fun, I should try it with my neibor's stinger.

Your motor is dead, man. even if you can get it apart, these tabs will probably break after hitting it so hard, and where can you get a replacement endbell and brushes for that motor anyways? nowhere i have ever seen.
I would check out some new motors. There are lots now under $25 that look pretty good (if you can spend 30 get the trinity speed gem pro-theyre fast as hell)

Right about replacements: You can't get replacement brushes or the leaf-spring things, they are spot-welded or brazed on, and the arms are not available either. Just buy a new one.
