I am about to buy a new rc truck. How fast are the stampede and the e-maxx compared to the rustler? Woul I be happy with a stampede or do I need to get the e-maxx. Mainly I just want to be able to go fast enough to jump.
Well all the maxx guys are gonna tell you get the E, its bigger, 2 motor, 2 batt and 4wd, but its also a heavy beast, and I bet every person who owns an e-maxx will tell you that they have broken a suspension arm, shocktower or bulkhead jumping. I have had an e-maxx a couple in fact and I didn't like them. they are fun because you can shift them and their big and powerful, but I have also owned a electric stampede and now a nitro pede.
The pede is probably the best jumper on the market, its lightweight actually pretty fast compared to what some people might think, and insanely durable. I know a few guys who have bought maxxes thinkin this is gonna be a nice bashing truck, go out beat the heck out of it all day and not break nothin, rarely does that happen, unless you like to spend money on upgrades. The pede has never had the aftermarket support the maxx does, but since the emaxx came out the market has got behind it, companies like RD Racing have really come out with some nice stuff. You can sky a pede all day and probably wont break a thing. I have skied it, smashed it, demo derbie'd it, and just plain old thrashed it, I never broke a major part like suspension arm, shocktower or bulkhead, like I have on my maxxes. It's a very solid truck, but I'm not sayin the e-maxx is not. I just think if your loking for a simple bashing truck that you want to be reliable and go fast the pede is it. You can buy it rtr w/ XL-1 esc bearings, radio, buy a charger and a good 2400mah pack for much less than just the kit price of the maxx.
But the maxx has suspension, it has a lot of travel and can soak up some nice bumps. but one thing I learned that suspension makes for a smooth ride, you run through a dirt patch filled with potholes and you can control it and gets kinda boring, with the pede if you leave the suspension stiff with black springs its all over the place and loads of fun. And with the maxx you have the EVX, its a good esc but I have fried 2 of them, but in the Traxxas/Novak defense they were both replaced very quickly and at no cost to me, it's a little annoying but a great way of doin business.
I would say you have to look at what you wanna do. If you are lookin to race in the maxx class at a track you could kill with a pede, I did it all last year, but the maxx guys will pick on you and throw their weight around. That breaks pedes pretty good. But the pede can be made 4wd and very easily into a maxx killer...lol but if your lookin for a fun bashing truck that you dont want to have to pump a ton of money into then the pede is it. it's a simple design, relatively maintenance free, durable and finally getting more and more upgrades. And if anyone tells ya there's nothin better than a E, ot T-maxx show em the pedes, both electric and nitro, the nitro pede is beyond belief what it can do.
I kinda rambled on there but it's my opinion, not too many people stick up for the pede anymore, its small, 2wd and understated but its a great truck.

Thanks man, that pretty much answers my questions. I have a rustler ordered, I bought it from a guy in here. It oughtta be here any day. I read somewhere in here that someone converted a 'pede to a rustler??? Are they the same trucks with different tires and bodies?
Yep the rusty can be converted to the pede. You only need a few parts. I was just giving a friend some advice on this the other day...lol Here's the parts you need.
Part # 3622 Main Chassis 10.00
#3623 Skidplate set
#1844 Servo Saver
#3627 Battery Hold Down
Thats all I think you need there might be a couple other parts like screws but most lhs's have them.

Have fun with the Rustler! Its a very durable ST!
Peace,
Jordan
Thats right, all the reasons I don't like the rusty, i do have to admit its stupidly durable. I don't like it because it isnt a M/T, and as far as I was concerned up until a few months ago anything smaller than an M/T was a moving ramp.

Well, I have decided to get a 'pede and a Rusty. The Rusty should be here any day now ( I got it in here from a guy ) and I will be ordering a 'pede tomorrow, along with all the goodies (everything RPM makes for it, plus bearings, and MIP cvd's) I guess for now I can let the trucks "share" the hop-ups until I can raise a little cash to get 'em both hopped-up.
CVD's? I don't think their the best hop up for the pede. I had a set before, they limit suspension travel and I lost the pins in mine. I am not a huge fan of the CVD's on the stempede. I know a couple other people who have had problems with the CVD's on the pede. I have had them on my t-maxx and never had a problem but I don't reccomend them for the pede. There is nothin wrong with the sliders on the pede.

Should I put 'em in my Rustler then?
Yeah sure, the rusty isnt as much about suspension. But i suggest the shiny cvd's they just look cooler.

Actually I have CVD's in my pede and you just have to use RPM rear carriers and use the lower hole to mount them to the suspension arm, this lowers the wheel so at full compression the wheel isn'at high as it would normally be. Basically it works, and if you try you'll find out. :p
Plus one of the best things about the pede is how easy it is to modify. I've made some many different chassis, played with the suspension, the number of shocks, new towers, etc. All you need is some sheet aluminum, a saw (Band saw, jig saw, sabre saw, etc...) a drill and a few other tools and you can make just about anything for the truck!
Just look at all the mods on my truck! Its currently the set-up there with 6 shocks. :) And soon I'm ditching this brushed motor crud and buying a high power brushless system, some 8 or 10 cell GP3300 packs and I'm going to rip it up!
