ive been thinking about getting a t-maxx and have been looking around these forums and a few people r saying that there r some weak spots on the t-maxx...most of what i hear is that the bulkheads r weak spots...is this true cause i want to make sure my maxx doesnt suck all the money out of my pocket...ive heard that the maxx is a very durable truck but every car has one weak spot or another...and if there r any other weak spots, what r they?

yes there is a major weak spot in the T-MAXX....its the tires....the t-maxx 2.5 is so damn powerful it will burn your tires up quickly.........;)
i havent had any probs with my maxx yet..and i drive it like a mad man!

The only weak link that I have found in the maxx 2.5 is the half shafts. I have the larger 40 series big joe tires and rims and in the colder weather I shattered the rear shafts. Probably due to a combination of cold plastic, good traction and a very powerful motor. Other than that there is not a real weak link in the truck.

they have upgraded a nuber of parts on the t-maxx and there isn't really any weak spots on the t-maxx unless you drive it in sub-zero temps.
any of the problems I had were able to be fix Cheaply and were my falt.:D so I havent had any problems with the t-maxx.

yeah I would have to say the half-shafts. Everything else is pretty good, unless you constantly hit objects at WOT :)

ok, since the half shafts r a little weak, what would be the best way to resolve that problem? the heavy duty half shafts or cvds? ive also asked this question but i didnt get any answer in the t-maxx thread itself...is putting on a wheelie bar worth it?

Well I bought a pair of CVD's for it today, just trying to find out if they are going to work with the rest of my stock setup. Its not a huge problem, the stock half shafts are $8, mine laster 1 1/4 of a gallon and I wasnt easy on my truck either. I would recomend upgrading to CVDs if you were looking to upgrade stuff, but the should last you a good while and they are cheap and easy to fix.
I really couldnt tell you much about a wheelie bar. I dont think they are really that necessary, you just have to know how to control the throttle. ;)

since i live in cali and i dont have too many off-road places to run the maxx, ive decided to make the maxx as a street racer with major jumping ability...would it be easier to build a custom rollcage to fit under the stadium truck looking body that im thinking of getting or will my maxx be fine without the cage?

Suspension arms are a weak link. They'll hold up thru quite alot of abuse, but once they go, they go big. The lower ones tend to break at the hingepin, and the uppers seem like they want to break between the pillow ball and the shock pass thru holes.
I have been thru 3 lower arms and 1 upper arm on the front right in 1 month with my 2.5T-Maxx, so i upgraded to RPM. Lookin at the broken edges of my parts, the plastic looks rather cheap. Looks fiberish and I found a few hollow spots inside. Watch your shocks too, they'll pop the caps on big jumps, but this is so on basically all plastic shocked RCs.
I even managed to bend one of those huge 3.5 mm turnbuckles. That took a bit of effort:D
As far as the arms, the truck is pretty beefy unless you bash pretty hard (like myself).

It took about 3/4 throttle (puffy glove got stuck inbetween the trigger and radio body), 25 degree weather, a trampoline post, and a dead center hit to break the right side bulkheads (front and rear of my maxx. The front upper arm ripped the hinge pin out of the bulk head and the rear toe link broke the the bulkhead at the mount. The truck is tough though... once I hit a ramp landed on the front left a arm, cartwheeled down a steep hill for 25ft got air off the next hill hit a tree and tumbled the rest of the way down and smacked a fence. Didnt break anything and got to the truck to flip it over before it stalled and drove it out...wish i had it on video it was great

Stock, nothing is really weak .. But once you start upgrading to aluminum, anything plastic will become a weak link. The bulkheads do have a flaw in them and that's why RPM doesn't make bulkheads for it.

get a savage instead
Great reply metal guy. Biggest weak point IMO is the shocks, caps blow off. can be fixed with teflon tape, aluminum caps, or just buy Big Bores. Oh and by the way metal guy, the Savages' shocks are plastic too. But I'm sure that HPI will come out with aluminum upgrades, for $200 a set.
