OK, brushless motors have the magnets on the shaft, and the wires are in the can, so there are no brushes to pass current through a comm to the wires on the armature. The results is greater efficiency and virtually no wear except for the bearings.

The downside is that, at least right now, they are much more expensive. There are more and more ESCs and motors purpose-built for cars, so they are getting easier to find, but still not at the level of conventional stuff.

Novak's setup should help a LOT, as it is supposed to be about $200 for the motor and ESC (The cost of a good modified motor and ESC), and it will be available everywhere. That will force the companies already producing brushless setups to both make their products more readily available (To hobby shops and all the major mail-order markets), but also to cut their prices.

I think it's like contact lenses and funerals (There is a correlation, trust me): Before those products and services were really advertised, the people selling them could charge almost whatever they wanted, because you had nothing to compare the prices to. Now that we see that we can get a setup from Novak for $200 or less, they'll soon realize we won't be paying $300 or more for their stuff.
