Hello Guys,

I'm converting a House Of Balsa 300XL fun fly.:) The kit itself is your traditional house of balsa's signature, where patial parts are laser cut and other are stamped, but the over all kit is 100% perfect for my taste and style of building.

The wings construction is quite easy, nicely laser cut sheet of balsa, but the only problem that I have found so far, this plane would be on the heavy side.

The Ribs are 1/8 balsa, the spars are 1/4x1/8" and it also consist of hard wood, the same size as the spars. As well, as 1/8 dowels. So this wing will be on the heavy side.

I'm looking for ways to lighten the wings a bit, I will probably substitute the maple dowels with 1/8 fiber tubes to cut off some weight as much as possible.

The Fuse's modification was simple. I just basicaly cut the fuse for the motor (400) to fit, and I might also cut a little in, so I can move the motor in case, have to put a GB later on. *I just eye ball the measurement for the motor fit.

Dear Antonio - Hey, buddy, its Valentine's Day - does your wife know that you are spending your time posting things instead of pampering her! Have you thought of fitting a Mini AC 1215/20 into this. Mine with 6:1 planetary swings a 10x7 at 4200rpm on 5.2A - with a lower ratio and smaller prop you could get this plane humming! Good luck, Cheers, Phil

Hello Doc.

She's pampered all the time:) vice/verca:)

I'm shooting to pull 16-20amp sat. 10cells. The reason, that I will be putting hacker b20 or Mega 7T, because, my next project calls for these motor 23-40oz plane next. .40 conversion:D

Hi genovia,

Another great looking covering job. What did you use? Where are you going to mount the battery pack?

Hi Dale,

Thank you for the kind words. I am using Ultracote (red) and Econokote (White).

Before I made my battery slot, I tapped the battery to the side of the fuse to where I intend to place the battery. I balanced her per plan, and made I also made sure that I have enough aft CG. For 3D flying in the future.

Picture 1.

Right side of the wing. Rx, ailo and Elev. servos shown. Azar antenna fitted to a big enough straw and place on one side of the ribs closer to the rx.

Mega 5T, 9x4.5 APC, I choose 9x4.5 so the bird will have the thrust that I needs for 3D flying. I'm going to go with this setup first, see how it fly's and then after the maiden with the stock control surface, I am thinking of widening the surface (ailo, rudder) 25% to achieve "in your face 3d"

I glued on 1/4" balsa to the nose, to prevent the motor from shooting out in flight.

Battery slot and battery in place CG right on the dot, making enough aft CG as well.

I'm satisfied with this conversion. Looks and feels like a winner. No doubt in my mind, that this bird will bring me the 3D thrill, that I'm after for.

Yours Truly,
Genovia:)

genovia:

I am jealous that you will have a 3D plane before I do. Although what I am working on is a 3D plane that weighs in at about 5.5 oz. I would like to hear the flight report and how your tricks are coming along.

Later,
Dan

Hi Dan,

I managed to get one flight in yesterday, though it was too windy for me to fly 3D, but I was able to do circuit flights. This plane is awesome. I change the prop. for the maiden to 8x6 instead of my initial prop. that was 9x4.5. The 8x6 was able to do fast aerobatics, but not capable to make the plane hover. Again, I chickened out due to the wind. Knife edge was great, planning for my tail spin soon, as well, as prop. hang.

*****I am working on is a 3D plane that weighs in at about 5.5 oz. *****

Edogfight.com is coming out an EPP foam Cap, that weights about the same as your plane. MAN!!!! I kid you not, Edogfight.com's new plane is awesome, and can do "In your face 3D"

I'm looking into E-tec batteries, that aircraft world carries. These new Lil Poly's are I think are the answer??? Hard to tell, because it seems as though, companies are coming out of batteries every day.

Yours,
Antonio

One thing also, that this bird, I think cannot pull off any major 3D stuns, it's because of it's control surface. I will work on widening the control surface to 25% ailo/rudder/ elev. After this birds 5th flight.
