Hello, I'm new to the forums. I'm basically a basher. I was wondering if you guys could post any cool tips that you know of that saves you money on your car's maintenance but doesn't significantly affect performance.
Here's something I've wondered about. Maybe someone out there has tried it. Could you use 30 wt motor oil (or other wt) to dampen your shocks instead of the signifcantly more expensive rc silicone oil?
Thanks in advance for any tips you are willing to share.

If you think shock oil is expensive, just sell your car right now, because you'll never afford to run it properly.
And no, you can't use motor oil.

Harsh!!! but ya if you are not comfortable spending like 15 bucks a month or so maybe even more then you are not able to race RC. It is a very expensive hobby. Sorry if you are misfortuned and have no money though.

Talk about harsh.
But when it comes down to it RC's are kinda spendy. If your not willing to fork out the cash(trust me it takes a good bit of it) then maybe this hobby isn't for you. I personally have found very few corners to cut
As a newbie to the hobby I'll just say this,,, "you get what you pay for" ,,,, " a good running car is a well maintained car"

Pssht. It's not that expensive. You don't have to rebuild your shocks all the time if you're just a basher, and, *gasp*, I've never trued a comm either. Oh the humanity.
Anyone have any real tips? Other than beat it?

If you want to race on a budget pan cars are great.
BRP makes some very durable 1/18 cars.
Bolink sells many cheap, durable products.
Running mod motors on 4 cells gives more power than a stock on 6 cells.
The motor will also last longer, and crash damage will me less since there is lots less weight.
I dunno maybe someone will get something out of this?
Incorrect oils may attack o-rings and shock bodies.

well u can always use cooking oil in ur shocks....
as for cleaning ur tires, why not take it with u into the shower next time instead of buying that expensive 6$ bath scrub. and use head n shoulder that belong to ur sister.
i find tide works best.

Olive oil works better methinks. :D
Some butter on the tires and cook a few eggs on the motor and your breakfast is ready.

I'm sure you guys are kidding but, in case you're not vegetable/olive oil gets waxy and sticky and nasty when used on mechancal things...I learned this when I tried oiling a meat slicer at a place I used to work.....But hey...if you're just bashing who needs oil at all??
