View Full Version : Water cooling?
Please excuse my stupidity. I am working on a little project with a homelite 25cc engine. I have read that they are often water cooled when used in boats. How exactly is the water pumped? Do you just use a small electric pump?

You can use a vacuum powered water pump that is hooked to a tap on the engine case or use a water pick-up mounted on the rudder, behind the prop or on a trim tab.
That vacuum pump sounds like what I need...where do I get one and how much water do they pump?

Prather makes one just for the homelite engines. Part # 9330 at a cost of $35. To be honest with you this would be a good set-up but for about $10 less you could just get a water cooling kit from just about any hobby shop that will work just about as good. But it would look profesional to have the electric pump I guess.

Warehouse Hobbies has a good one for $29.95 that comes with every thing that you need . That's what is in my Manta Ray and it works great. http://www.whobbies.com/store/agora.cgi?product=Water_Cooling

If you have a clutch on the engine, get the pump.
If you do not have a clutch don't waste your time. The pump tube will just add case volume, and pumps only work in low idle. Rudders are designed with water pickups. As you go forward, water runs up the rudder and to your engine.
Just like the nitro boats, electrics, and all other gassers.
good luck
