I run gas boats and picked up a couple cheap electrics for when I go camping. 1 is a kyosho viper, the other gp marine waverocket (discontinued) but it is now under the name tower hobbies. Viper works great, but i would like to know what size prop (octura or prather) would fit. i like metal props because I can shape and cup them.
Next the motor in the waverocket "hangs up' when I start off slow, i have taken it apart and cleaned and oiled everything. Still does it. It has a 540 in it, i know i can go to a 550, what else. Some car motors are $20 do they work? What would give me the same or better speeds, and comp. run times.
thanks you for any help

Not knocking this site (that bad:rolleyes: ), but this place like a few others can get a little stagnant.
Rum Runner is the place for great electric advice. The guys are a close community and don't screw around. Either they'll give you a straight answer or not respond. Their really into top dollar stuff, but they have helped me with my Blast a lot.

My GPM Waverocket came with a 550 then i tried a modified car motor , the stock ESC can't handle it so then i modified the entire drive system.

That looks great, how does it run?

kevin28 ,
I don't know how many MPH but it's near twice the stock speed .

Look into a 700 motor with 12cells speeds anywhere from 18-25mph speeds depending on setup. I dont know the Viper but this seems to be the most reliable maintenance free way to go.

For the Viper an X427 or X430 (cut the tongue so it is almost removed) and a 17 turn car motor ( add silver brushes and puprle trinity springs and advance it 1/4"- 6-7 cells will see good speed and reasonable runtime
The motor must be water cooled
As a general rule it is a good idea to go to something liek a 700BB 8.4v motor on 12 cells - unlike car motors the put out about the same power as an excellent modified but have zero maintenance vs monthly comm cuts and brush replacements on the car motors
If you went this way with either boat use an X435 on submerged drive (cut the tongue)
If you got to a surface drive use an X642
The alternative setup for this motor is to use 16*CP1700 cells. The tirck is that you use the voltage to give extra power and prop down X440 X442 to maintain a moderate current draw but bnefit fromt he extra power available - the CP1700s give a better power:weight ratio at the expense of slightly less runtime - or get GP 3300's which are the best cells for long runtimes at present

homemade . except the turn fins/trim tabs , they came with the boat .
