I have a question about launching of boats. (only one for now)
Being an outboard tech for mercury marine I am not new to the water. But why is a toss needed to launch these boats. I have a miss bud by the way. Does the prop not have enough pitch to get the boat up on plane or is the engine not strong enough to get past the displacement and get up on step.
Okay another ?. (i lied.... sorry)
For breaking in the engine can I do this in a test tank (At my shop we have a 140 gallon test tank for tuning small engines) sitting still or does the boat have to be moving to help the mater move up the pick-up to the engine. Thanks for the help.

Since most nitro/gasoine-powered R/C boats have no clutch and are direct-drive a good pitch is the only way to "load" the prop while the engine's running. Also, as you stated, some hull designs prefer a good low pitch to get them on plane quicker, especially three-point hydros, etc.

You can static-test your Miss Bud put you'll need to run water through the powerplant via either a pump, gravity or "hose" setup. I use the faucet with a small yellow nozzle tip modified to hold a 1/8" fitting to a hose connected to the incoming cylinder cooling nipple on my nitro boats, but you can also use a pump or a modified pop bottle sitting over the of your hull to feed water to the engine while it's running.

Hope this helps,
