Anyone else almost kill somone with an RC car? Here's the story:
It was the summer of 2000 and I was new to RC. The LHS, ever eager to take my money, sold me a Yokomo GT4 with a Mugen MT12 in it. BAD combination for a first time RC'er!!! Way to fast!
Anyways, we were having a big race at a parking garage of a local shopping mall. I was practicing and slowly gaining a little confidence handling the nitro monster. There were boards that the owner of the LHS used to outline the track. The boards were connected by hinges and it worked pretty well. But, someone had hit one of the boards causing the board to lean over like a ramp!(see where I'm going with this?? :D)
Well, I was tearing down the track and hit the same board. Instantly my car was AIRBORN!! Some dude was crouched down on one knee working on his car and didn't see my car flying at his head at a HIGH rate of speed! My car hit the poor guy in his dome!! The guy was wearing a baseball cap and tore a hole in it and put a small gash in his head! Almost knocked the guy unconscious!! I felt so terrrible! I sold that damn car within a week and got something slower!!

I've heard of the "bloody" carpet knife but a "bloody" yok??..thats a new one..LOL. Seriously though, that sucks man. Its funny enough gettin a little bump from an RC but nearly killing the guy..now thats not funny. :( Gotta watch them boards man..they are dangerous. :p You could have still kept the car, and adjusted the clutch for it to engage early, which will cause it to accelerate a slower and smoother..instead of hauling away. This will require some experimenting with clutch springs, so to save to time I got a centax clutch..well, actually it came with my ride.

someone had hit one of the boards causing the board to lean over like a ramp
And that is why when my LHS races they use pipes.

yeah boards, man that is kinda stupid, if you do you use them they should get someone look at them to see if one is damaged or if in your case leaning but Animeboy is right tracks should use PVC pipes because they have like a 90% or something like that of flying off and hitting someone and they usally hit it and start to barrel roll or what-not, but boards, i feel sorry for that guy

Sometimes, I don't think people realize the danger these things can pose.
When I was flying powered planes, we would fly out of an old airport -- the powered guys on one side, the electrics on the oppostie field (really far away). The important thing here is electrics are usually sail planes that start really high in the sky and away from us gas guys, so they are looking up all the time. Well, one day a gas guy lost radio control of the gas plane and it flew into an electric pilot's lung. He was rushed to the hospital, which thankfully was really close, and came out okay. But one lung shorter.
Imagine a 2hp engine turing a 12" prop (blade) flying at about 10mph into your chest.
Why it may seem like a funny visual, when someone gets really hurt -- its not.
I'm glad everyone came out of this okay, but it does point out the need to have control over your equipment.

Dude, now thats just TOO DANGEROUS! People just have to remember that these radio controlled vehicles can do damage on all sorts of levels despite their size. If your not careful, someone can get hurt. You may think its funny when it happens to a friend but if it were to happen to you, I'm positive you wont be smiling. I've heard many stories of people getting hurt, whether they are just playing around, track marshalling, etc. Stay on alert as often as possible when one or multiple vehicles are being operated. Also, try not to hit the track marshalls on purpose even if they placed your car in the wrong lane or direction.
