Dose anyone know of an electric motor that would be good for a Deep v kind of on the heavy side. It's an old Kyosho Jetstream 800. The stock Lemans 360 motor can barley get it up on a plane.

360 motor ?
That seems kind of small for a 35 inch boat.
Stock it should have a Kyosho 540 size motor with gear reduction.
But even that is not good enough.
Look at what i did to my Kyosho Bladerunner which is about the same size......................
That's a 700 size motor , much more power but you have to use 12 cells.

Hotwheel I second the 700 Idea and 12 cells.A much more practical power plant for a larger boat.
eeyore I like what you have done with the Bladerunner and your Wave Rocket. How fast will the Wave Rocket run now? Can it handle the speed increase? n.h.schmidt

Thanks n.h.schmidt ,
I don't know , i need a GPS or radar gun , but i'd say that the Wave Rocket is near twice the stock speed . It throws a rooster tail about 4 feet behind it.
And yes it can handle the speed , although in windy and ruff water conditions it gets a little scary . On several occasions while jumping waves i've had it stand up on it's prop but i've never flipped it , "Knock on wood". LOL
P.S. I don't run the Bladerunner anymore , that hull was not designed right and can't handle the speed that the 700 gives it .
Well not in the turns anyway , one day i may put it back together , maybe with more power just for straight away racing.

Everybody who runs a Balde Runner has the turning problem.Very treacherous in the turns. I have a Danvo Rain X that now runs at about twice the normal speed but is really bad in the turns. Andrew G. at fastelectrics.com has gotten the Blade Runner to turn right.
What motor setup do you have in the Wave Rocket. Did you remove the prop tube skeg? n.h.schmidt

The Kyosho 360 was a 540 size motor. I think the numbers meant 36 turns or 36 degrees timing or perhaps just a part number?

You guys are probably going to find these questions realy dumb. I started out with electric to learn the basics but went to nitro befor I ever got into changing motors.
What dose how many turns a motor has?
When you say the motor is a 700 what dose that mean?
Are boat motors any diffrent from RC car motors?
And what dose it mean by double wound?

That's a lot of questions. You need to find an electric motor book.
Here's some quick answers:
What dose how many turns a motor has?
-less turns = more rpm, less runtime
When you say the motor is a 700 what dose that mean?
-It's the size if the motor. 700's are bigger than standard 540's

Are boat motors any diffrent from RC car motors?
-no, but cars usually use 540 size. Motors made for planes are the most popular boat motors.
And what dose it mean by double wound?
-for everywrap around the motor the wire is two thin wires instead of one thick wire as it would be with a single wind
-less winds = more torque, more winds = more rpm
This website has some great answers to how things work and explains motors really well:

Well said Davidj .
I guess Hotwheel could have been talking about the Kyosho LeMans AP36L which i found out is a stock 27 turn 05 (540) motor.
I was thinking of something smaller than a 400 , duh , my bad.
But i still think a 700 is a better suited motor for a boat that size if you want some decent speed that is.

That pic posted earlier is old . I'll post a newer one for ya.
I'm runing a Kyosho Endoplasma 16 turn double spinning a Octura x534 prop , may be a little over proped but fast . I Would like to try a Trinity Chameleon 2 Pro Motor.
I left skeg alone , i didn't feel like fooling with it , although it may help a little if i removed it .

I've begged for this exact question to be answered in other forums and folks have shunned it.
Thank you guys very much for taking time to answer this question. Really.

Is your Kyosho Boat setup with a gearbox? I would think it must . If you are looking for a drop in motor that will give it a little more kick. A Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem $20 from Tower will do well for you. It is a long can 05 type motor with just a little hotter wind than what you have now. It is well suited to being lugged down some. I have one in one of my boats .I love it. I replaced my Roar stock motor and not only went faster but gained some run time too. Also since your motor has been arround the pond more than a few times ,it certianly needs a rebuild. They don't go forever you know.
Many of the racers who still use a 05 motor ,rebuild after only three runs. n.h.schmidt

Nice setup .I have been thinking of trying this boat out as a sows ear project. I may go ahead with it now. Here's a motor for your consideration. A Speed Gems Pro. They are much improved from the older version. Better magnets and the big square brushes. About $35 from my hobby shop. I may try one myself this spring. n.h.schmidt

Btw, the rig is a Blast. Same thing should apply with performance gains?

No joke? Rough $'s to do so?
Thanks. DD

It's true. However that would be only for the highest performance levels. Once set up for it .The rebuilding dosn't cost much at all. In rebuilding of a already setup motor .You usually need only to trun the comutator .The brushes may last through several com turnings. In your case with a sport boat .A motor should last a long while . The 700 motor mentioned before, generally will last for years and give you very good speeds on 12 cells. n.h.schmidt

This months RCBM came in the mail just now & guess what I'm reading? Yep, turn to pg 48. Good stuff.
After reading about the brushless motors, the light is flickering, but first I need to get the hang of basic electrics.
You ever consider writing a book? :)

I guess I should have looked at the box. Its the Le Mans 360ST and it is a 550.
