that's what i was about to say. hey, is that the extra long chassis? because that looks a lot longer than the normal titan. but nice job, the finish looks so clean that i thought it was a kit.
Meesh
03-11-2003, 12:56 PM
It is the long chassis.
Thanks for the compliments!

Man it looks superb!! when you look from behind its the best dual tip exhaust! and i can bet it gives too much power, but you probably will answer my question, is one engine going backwords?? or how is that managed when both go same way??
Meesh
03-11-2003, 04:18 PM
They both turn the same way. Draw the gears out on paper and you'll see.
Beautiful job, I'm drooling on my keyboard.

very nice job on the titan and I can't wait to hear how it runs with the twain 4 strokers.
have fun with your $$1200+ rc.

VERY NICE JOB!! Looks just like a factory setup! If you can get us some video of that bad boy running!!!

03-12-2003, 01:48 PM
ohh yea now i get it, but i wish you luck tuning it, i think it maybe a little hard*edit: i have just noticed it i like the linkage!! its great
BIGBADBOWTIE
03-12-2003, 02:14 PM
If Im looking at this thing right... you will be able to tune one engine at a time while the ather is not running. Once you get both to a basic tune you can tweek both to top performance.
Meesh
03-12-2003, 02:23 PM
You're absolutely right. I'll let you know how it works out. It's been too cold here to break in engines.

THAT looks good(!!), Meesh! Looks like it came that way. You do good work! How's it run?
Is it me or did you stretch the wheelbase? I know you had a ton of fun building that!
Meesh
03-12-2003, 07:46 PM
Gonna try to run it this weekend. It's supposed to be warmer. That is the chassis stretch kit that is available now from Nitrohouse. I need the extra room behind the engines because of the carb location.
I had tomake custom collet for the engines and motor mounts. Mounts for the throttle servo and modify the rear tower to mount the servo. I then had to figure out where to bolt the tanks and the radio box as well as the brake servo. It took a little thought but it wasn't tedious. I actually enjoyed it. I'm bringing it up to show Jack (Midmadn) on Friday night.
I built a Monster Pirate with an EK4 engine before this.
Good to hear from you.

It's gonna be a shame, Meesh, to get that truck dirty, but, I'm sure you'll have fun doing it!
Those engines are 52's?
Meesh
03-12-2003, 09:41 PM
They are .40's made special for cars.
ProjectTwin
03-13-2003, 11:36 AM
Yup, they're .40s with the .52 valve covers.
Nice stuff.
Meesh
03-13-2003, 11:51 AM
Yeah .52 covers
Forgot to mention that.

03-13-2003, 07:29 PM
WOW, sweet ride! It seriously looks factory.
btw, what would it take to mount just one of those .40 4-strokers on a Titan, like what parts. Would i still need the extended chassis? Thanks
Dave
Meesh
03-13-2003, 07:46 PM
You need the chassis to get room behind the engine for the carb. It would be easier to do in an MP.
Standard motor mounts will work with only one engine, custom collet for flywheel or Kyosho makes a flywheel that fits without a collet, custom throttle linkage, and the chassis. That should do it

Meesh you built your truck with very high craftmans ship. the conversion looks like a factory job:D

Wow! That is friggin' awesome work there broh! :D
I think I see the carbs are set up as push-pull? On the same servo? Ingenious!
Just for fun, if you were to sell it, how much? ;)
Meesh
03-15-2003, 08:26 AM
Separate servo for the brakes also. I was able to mix them with the Futaba 3PK radio.
I don't know how much I'd sell it for. Not counting labor I've got over $1200 in it.

Very nice job.
Patience and talent.
How did you decide on gearing?
Have you run it yet?  :D :p

It sure is sweet! I'm sorry I made you add up the receipts :p I bet you could get much more for it!

Not getting much speed as I have the engine "8 cycling"
I would have said 4 cycling but they do that automatically. I ran a tank through one mottor at a time then fired both of them up. I've got to gat a video of this with sound! Idling it sounds like a B-25 Mitchell getting ready for takeoff! Unbelievable!. I've got them running the same. It was pretty easy to tune them. I just adjusted the single needle until they were both running the same temp. http://pic5.picturetrail.com/VOL92/800986/1802054/21357747.jpg

As far as the gearing goes, I just figured that the stock gearing would be too low as these engines don't rev like a 2 stroke. I left the gears on the tranny stock and went with slightly larger clutch bell greas. Seems OK for now but I won't know for sure until I break in the engines.
Meesh
03-16-2003, 09:00 PM
was that I would have to crank it for 10 minutes to get the engines primed because of the length of the fuel lines. Not So!
Two yanks on the starter and I had fuel to the carb!.
Both tanks emptied within 15 seconds of each other and both tanks were bone dry! No fuel flow problems here.
RC Jack
03-16-2003, 09:16 PM
Looks like you're gonna have some fun with that monster when you get the bugs worked out!!
I'm debating as whether to put a 4-stroke in mine; it'll be either a 90 or 1.2. But with most 4-strokes, they don't have the rpm's of the 2-strokes. Let us know how those 4-strokes work out!
Meesh
03-16-2003, 09:30 PM
I THINK THEY ARE GONNA RIP ONCE THEY GET BROKEN IN. Like I said, they were running real rich. I'm running Cool Power 30% Heli fuel like I run in the EK4. Seemed to like it pretty well as temps were around 160-165. At idle she'd drop down to around 135 or so. These are ringed engines so I want to take it easy on them for break in. Another thing, my tranny wasn't shifting into high. I forgot to back the dog spring out 4 turns like the instruction sheet addendum said.:D
dont forget to make the videos!!!:D i wanna see em!!!

Meesh,
That is a piece of work, have I have done a twin .21 protech 1/6,
Still needs some work and dressing up etc...here (http://www.bluebusonline.co.uk/protech.htm) , not my site by the way.
I am interested how the 2 speed will cope, I will follow this with interest, keep us posted.
Very nice indeed,
Cheers,
Mike.

I think that by installing a OS FS40 in your USA-1 you can get rid of the counter gear and mount the engine directly against the main gear...

and flip the diffs too right ?

Jupp....might need to play somewhat with the cluch bell size...start from something low (11?) and continue up...

That looks really sweet. Gotta love the sound and power of 4 strokes.
It might just be my imagination, but isn't that servo going to get crushed in a hard tail first/semi tail first landing?
rebelbrowser
09-30-2003, 10:39 PM
he's right ,thinking in terms of gravity reality and all,HOWEVER,i probly wouldnt crash it at first.HOWEVER,eventually i might push the envelope with that exact truck.....lets say we move the servo with two long rods to toggle em from behind the tank near that middle gear. may have electrical problems from that gear though huh. and then theres two stock tanks when this thing is a custom, can we find another way to tank em too ,freeing up plenty of deck room for a throtle setup. I have thought of useing like a weed wacker tank. mounted high across the front half.
hell you'd be able to tow a trailor full of gas, except you wouldnt be able to do flips while towing a fuel trailor around.think of the pssibilities of its towing. what are the specs on hand there MEEESH ?

The truck wont be a speed demon because of the weight and size. The 4 cycle engines will be great for climbing and pulling, because of the torque.
I'd say the truck COULD possibly run about 35mph tops.

Weight and size arent as limiting as you might think. Any aftermarket engine has enough to get it up to speed, never mind twin engines. The problem here will be gearing, if you can find the right gearing for it it could be pretty quick.

i would never sell something like that.. i know you're into planes and stuff bob, but thats a keeper!! i'm gonna try and sell some stuff so i can get that beast!! even though it has 4 strokers, it would still kick ass! and imagine the sound of those 2 .40fs's.. mmmmmm...:D

It's selling on ebay with a starting price of $950.

02-07-2004, 01:11 PM
Right after I finished this project I got interested in planes. Bam! That was it for me! I got rid of all my R/C car stuff except for this and an EK4 I have about $1400.00 into.
It sits in my cellar doing nothing. I figured I'd let someone have a crack at it that will get some use out of it.
The things runs great but I haven't had time to tune it. Like I mention in my ad, the diffs need greasing to stiffen them up so the tires don't baloon. It's a real torque monster
I posted it on Ebay yesterday. Opening bid is $950.00
